Abstract

This study aims to examine Lotka's law relating to the productivity of authors in the field of library and information, especially authors whose works have been published in Berkala Ilmu Perpustakaan dan Informasi (BIPI) in the 2003-2016 period. The quantitative approach of bibliometric analysis using Lotka's law is the method used in this study. The results of data analysis of the first author (straight count) show a maximum deviation of 0.0350 with a critical value of 0.1025. If the maximum deviation is less than the critical value, it indicates that there is conformity of the author's productivity between theory and observation. Similarly, for the inclusion of all authors (complete count), the maximum deviation is 0.0239 with a critical value of 0.0887. Based on these two findings, it can be concluded that Lotka’s law tends to be applied to know the productivity of authors in the field of library and information science.

Abstract

Library services continue improving along with advances in information an communication technology. How do libraries face the digital era that straightly affects the type and quality of library services? This paper intended to show the condition of library services based on a study of three articles discussed in this paper. It is hoped that the study may increase the librarians knowledge and motivation so that they can provide the best services. As a result, librarians are expected to adapt to the changes in creative an innovative ways so that rhey can keep up with the users needs of information and consequently the users keep visiting the libraries.

Abstract

The development of library is progressing along with the development of technology. A new era of digitalization becomes a necessity that cannot be avoided by library. Currently, almost all aspects in the library cannot be separated from tachnology and electronic information systems. The conventional systems have been gradually abandoned with the exception of its basic principles of collection management. The development of digital libraries that increases in number proves that there is a paradigm shift about library. The sophistication of technology applied in digital libraries, however, has not met the information accessibility especially for people with disabilities. This paper described the implementation of digital library for the blind throughPustaka Digital Mitra Netra. With the implementation fo digital library for the blind, the right of the blind for information access can be fulfilled. In addition, the concept of digital libraries for the disbled especially the blind can be taken into consideration to be applied in other digital libraries.

Abstract

The development of the new concept of documentation is growing so rapidly, breaking the conventional definition of documents that only rely on written texts and printed forms. One development of the concept of document is the oral document developed by Deborah Turner. This study aims to examine the concept of oral document in terms of the concept of the new concept of documentation in the neo Documentum movement. The research method used in this research is qualitative research method with data collection technique through a literature study. The results of this study indicate that the oral document is highly relevant to the development of document definitions in neo-documentary movements that not only focus on the physical form. Documents are more viewed from their function as information providers which provide evidence in various forms so that speech and body language are also included in the concept of documentation.

Abstract

The digital library which become the basic pillar of information needs in all countriesis solidly built. Because of strong ideology in its software. With an open source-based, it is interesting to study digital library applications applied in two collages from different countries. This study aimed to analyze Greenstone and Ganesha Digital Library (GDL) by using observation approaches to determine the comparison of system applications, (2) metadata and interoperability, and (3) the number of languages (user interface) provided. The result showed that Greenstone continues evolving with the latest version released in 2016, while GDL has it last feature in 2014. The compatible application types associated with greenstone look different from GDL, except for the browser system. Until the latest version, Greenstone has better interoperability than GDL shown by a numberof metadata that can interact. Viewing from the user interface, Greenstone offers broaders multilingual featurescompared to GDL. Consequently, GDL needs to improve its application performance so as to be widely used by the international public. In Indonesia, however, GDL has to deal with various software applications that are widely used by national information agencies.

Abstract

Indonesia through National Medium Term Development Plan 2014-2019 (RPJMN 2014-2019) has established a Strategic Area Development Policy throughaccelerating the development of regional economic growth center by maximizing agglomeration benefit, exploring regional potentials and improving infrastructure provision efficiency in each region. It is therefore necessary to improve exibility to information to increase the economy and the region. The development of repository as part of information technology development allow access to information to disseminate information in generating any development planning policy. This study discussed if researches done by regional universities, through journal repositories produced, meet the goverment policy. The samples in the study are 1,355 journal repositories spread in 5 areas of Java-Bali, Sumatra, kalimantan, Sulawesi, Nusa Tenggara-Maluku and Papua. As the processing data, the study apllied data mining approach. It was obtained that the current journal repositories are still dominated by Java-Bali, Sumatra, Sulawesi, kalimantan, Nusa Tenggara-Maluku-Papua. Accordingly, it can be concluded that research conducted in the regions in Indonesia have not met the RP JMN 2014-2019.

Abstract

This study was held in October 2017 in the National library of Indonesia to stakeholders who had been invited to certain discussion meetings. The purposive random sampling technique by accidental sampling was applied in this study. The study aimed to determine the library user’s perception to the function of the National Library of Indonesia related to legistation. According to Law No.43/2007, the functions of the National Library are as the builder, referral, deposit, research, conversation, and network center library. The study sugessted that the respondent’s perception on the function of library as the bulider library becomes the most prominent item of its authority; while the function of library as the research library becomes the lowest item.
