Abstract

Water pollution can not only be measured only by chemical and physical parameters, Plankton have properties that are always moving so that they can be used as indicators of water pollution. Plankton play an important role in influencing the primary productivity of river waters. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the diversity and presence of plankton to the quality of the Batanghari River. The study was conducted in February 2018 in Jambi City. Primary data taken in the form of concentrations of physical and chemical parameters include turbidity, pH, TDS, BOD, COD, DO, Phosphate, Nitrate, Nitrite, Ammonia, Lead, Chloride, Sulfate and the amount of plankton abundance (ind / L) on the Batanghari River. The time of sampling was in the morning and evening on the same day.  The results showed that the relationship between the existence of plankton and the quality of the Batanghari River showed the condition of the Batanghari River in Jambi City was in phase a - Mesosaprobic (heavy pollutant level). Parameters of pH, COD, Phosphate, Nitrite, Lead and Chloride are moderately correlated to phytoplankton, while TDS, BOD, DO, Nitrate and Ammonia are weakly correlated with phytoplankton. And for temperature parameters it is strongly correlated with phytoplankton. For correlation to zooplankton, parameters of pH, TDS, BOD, COD, COD, DO, Phosphate, Nitrate, Nitrite, Lead, chloride are very weakly correlated while ammonia and turbidity correlate moderately to zooplankton.

Abstract

Transportation sector has a very big influence in air pollution. Increase the number of vehicles will caused higher air pollution, such as NO2. The increase in ambient air pollution is feared to have an impact on indoor air pollution. This study purposed is to determine the relationship between  NO2 concentration in ambient to indoor air.  This study used kuantitatif methods with purposive sampling for one month in Simpang Pulai Jambi City.  The relationship between NO2 concentration of ambient air and indoor air was analyzed using simple pearson correlation. The result showed that there was no significant relationship between NO2 concentration in ambient to indoor air with correlation value (r) is 0,437.  The highest NO2 concentration found on the third week in ambient 109,139 µg/m3and indoor air 70,133 µg/m3.  From analysis in one month showed that NO2 concentration in Simpang Kawat Jambi City still meet the air quality standard (150 μg / m3) in Government Regulation Number 41 Year 1999 about Air Pollution Control.

Abstract

Batang Asam River as a source of raw water for Drinking Water Supply Systems (SPAM) and daily needs. On May 19, 2015 there was pollution in the Batang Asam River due to the spillage of palm oil wastewater from one of the palm oil companies around the Batang Asam River. The water river becomes smelly and black and many fish die. The initial testing  showed that BOD parameter = 10 mg / l), COD = 50 mg / l, TSS = 16 mg / l, N-Total = 3.86 mg / l, pH = 6.02, Oil and fat = 2.8 mg / l, where almost all parameters above the quality standard. The purpose of this study was to analyze status of water and water quality of Batang Asam River Using Pollution Index Method as a result of spilling palm oil wastewater.  Water sampling of the Batang Asam River was carried out in 4 (four) locations, namely the upstream area of Lubuk Bernai Village, the Central area of Lubuk Lawas Village and Tanjung Bojo Village and the downstream of Kampung Baru Village (Pengabuan River Estuary). Parameters tested were pH, TSS, TDS, BOD, COD, DO, Fe, Oil and fat based on Government Regulation Number 82 of 2001 concerning Water Pollution Control and Water Quality Management For Class II. Analysis of water quality status using the Pollution Index method based on the Minister of Environment Regulation Number 115 of 2003 concerning Guidelines for Determining the Status of Water Quality.  The results showed that the analysis of the average waterquality of Batang Asam River from four locations tested were parameters pH 6,8, TDS parameters 79,5 mg / l, TSS parameters 15,25 mg / l, DO parameters 3,025 mg / l, BOD parameters 2,935 mg/l, COD parameters 14,5 mg / l, Fe 0,645 mg / l and parameters of oil and fat 1 mg /l satisfy the class II water quality standard (PP No. 82 of 2001). The status of Batang Asam River shows that the status of water quality is mildly polluted with a pollution index value of 1,0 ≤ IP ≤ 5,0 which is 1,96.

Abstract

Kasang Pudak Village is located in Kumpeh Ulu District, directly adjacent to Jambi City. Kumpeh Ulu Subdistrict is developed quite rapidly due to the increasing economic and social activities of the urban community, which also influenced the social life of the city of Jambi. The lack of community awareness of the environment and the unavailability of waste management services and TPA (final processing facility) has an impact on environmental conditions in Kasang Pudak Village, Kumpeh Ulu District, Muaro Jambi Regency. By-products from agricultural activities and the capacity of rural community, especially women (mothers – housewives) who can be empowered, are an extraordinary combination of environmental management. Therefore, there needs to be a conjunction for the community to be more concerned on the environment. This community partnership program (PKM) offers an empowerment of the Kasang Pudak Village community through the establishment of a waste clinic community. The waste clinic is a community development forum that offers training programs, education and providing skills and assistance to residents in environmental management, especially waste. The target partners of this service are mothers - housewives who are members of the Kasang Pudak Village environmental care group. The waste clinic in this PKM provides training in the form of material exposure and skills including the introduction of environmental management, training in composting/ fertilizer making, entrepreneurship training and composting competitions. The long-term outcome of PKM is that the independence of mothers and young women in waste management not only improves the quality of the environment but also economic income. The waste clinic activities were able to increase participant’s knowledge and awareness as indicated by the sincerity of participants in waste sorting and composting. As a result of the interim monitoring, residents succeeded in producing compost from household organic waste, and used it for fertilizer plants.
