Abstract

Bawang tiwai (Eleutherine americana Merr) is a herbaceous plant, living in groups have green leaves with a pointed leaf tip reaching ± 40 cm in height and has a red colored bulbs, roots brown, white flowers. In general, given the name of onion Sabrang but each region give different names, the Java (bawang Sabrang) Sumatra and Lampung (bawang ship), East Kalimantan (bawang tiwai / forest / bromot), West Kalimantan, South and Central (dayak bawang). Contain chemicals, among others elutherinon, isoleutherinon, eletheriol, tannins, flavonoids, aldehydes ketones, carboxylic acids, glycosides, phenols, carbohydrates and proteins. Have the ability as a preservative and antioxidant.

Abstract

Esterification of alginic acid obtained from seaweed (Turbinaria sp) extract with methanol (CH3OH) using sulfuric acid catalyst produce methyl ester alginate.The products were confirmed as methyl ester alginate as confirmed by FT-IR spectroscopy. The water content of this product was 11.61% with the pH value 4. The amount of Pb was 0.422 ppm. The viscosity of the product was decreased from 14.67 cps to 12.08 cps with the increasing of the temperature from 27oC to 70oC. The optimum addition concentration of the product was 2% on the ice cream; this value can length the melting point time of the ice cream from 11.19 min to 14.05 min at 31oC.

Abstract

Until recently there has been no report about optimum distillation techniques, to get the time refining a relatively shorter, better yield and quality (clean and not mixed in water) (Yuliansyah, 2004). The quality and yield of oil can still be improved through improvements in the process of distillation.Before the distillation process, aloe powder immersion treatment performed for 5 (five) days using water and methanol, and then compared with the distillation without treatment (control). Distillation process carried out in conditions 2,8 to 3,5 kgf/cm2 pressure and temperature 100-110oC with a time of refining for 8 hours. Oil produced by water immersion treatment for 5 days produces a yield of more than 0,025% without immersion (control). Aloes with water immersion treatment has the test results with the same quality control and into the category of oil of Aquilaria species.

Abstract

They modified the blades and shaft of hammer mill for increase fish meal production capacity. The purpose is an effort to increase the moment of torque tools that can generate a more efficient time and amount of production of fish meal. Modifications performed by the addition of the flywheel on the shaft hammer mill, which includes several tests, namely (1) variations in engine speed, (2) the number of blades, (3) makes an angle of blade 1350.Base on three times repetition of the sample results, obtained by the capacity of fish meal as follows: (1) Increase by 78% at 1750 rpm rotation, the number of blades 27 pieces and shape of the blade angle 1350, (2) decreased by 68% at 1750 rpm rotation, the number of blades 18 pieces and form a straight blade, (3) decreased amounting to 56.6% at 1750 rpm rotation, the number of blades 18 pieces and form a straight blade. The results before and after the modified instrument obtained a difference 7.8 times the capacity (118 kg/15kg) or increase of 686% (118kg-15kg/15kgx100%). Techno economic analysis BEP values obtained for Rp. 326,403 kg per year, the percentage was 32.38% BEP, BEP capacity of 77,712 kg per year and the payback period is 2 years and 3 months.

Abstract

Preparation of extractive waste substances concentrate “ulin” sawdust produce hot water using a solvent yield of 8.40%. The application concentrates obtained by use of hot water as a coating on rubber wood using immersion methods and resurfacing at a concentration of 1%, 2% and 3%. Fungal colonies revealed by extensive measurements in mm2, immersion method gives results of fungal attack was smaller than with the method of resurfacing. Average retention at a concentration of 2% has the highest value compared to the concentration of 1% and 3%, both on the resurfacing and the immersion. Shrinkage of wood in all treatments the highest in the tangential direction from 2.19 to 5.94%, the decrease in the radial direction from 1.34 to 4.85% and the lowest longitudinal direction from 0.10 to 0.56%

Abstract

Considering there are many farms that ignores environmental issues that may cause pollution impacts such as air pollution, especially the smell, it is necessary efforts to reduce air pollution by adding a material that can inhibit microbial growth and absorb odors. The smell comes from the content of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide gases, which are removed during the process of decomposition of chicken manure. One attempt to reduce odor is to spray liquid smoke chicken manure into chicken coop location. Liquid smoke is an organic liquid that is yellow to dark brown sengak smell (smoke) and contains many chemical components such as acidic compounds, phenol and alcohol.

Abstract

Furfural is one of the furan derivative are widely used as solvents in the extraction of lubricants oil from natural oil. The purpose of this research are hydrolysis of furfural from empty  fruit bunch palm. Empty bunch palm was firstly cleaned, crushed, and grinded. It was then hydrolyzed with the addition of sulfuric acid  H2SO4, and dehydrated before cyclizativy. Various of H2SO4  consentration that used for hydrolysis are 5% and 7,5% with reaction time 2,3 and 3,5 hours. The optimum result of this research was abtain 27,49% of furfural by hydrolisis with H2SO4 7,5% and reaction time 3 hours.
