Abstract

The performances of outdoor polymeric insulators are influenced by environmental conditions. This paper presents the effect of artificial tropical climate on the hydrophobicity, equivalent salt deposit density (ESDD), surface leakage current, flashover voltage, and surface degradation on epoxy-polysiloxane polymeric insulator materials with rice husk ash (RHA). Test samples are made at room temperature vulcanized (RTV) of various composition of epoxy-polysiloxane with rice husk ash as filler. The aging was carried out in test chamber at temperature from 50oC to 62oC, relative humidity of 60% to 80%, and ultraviolet (UV)  radiation 21.28 w/cm2 in daylight conditions for 96 hours. The experiment results showed that the flashover voltage fluctuates from 34.13 kV up to 40.92 kV and tends to decrease on each variation of material composition. The surface leakage current fluctuates and tends to increase. Test samples with higher filler content result greater hydrophobicity, smaller equivalent salt deposit density, and smaller critical leakage current, which caused the increase of the flashover voltage. Insulator material (RTVEP3)showed the best performance in tropical climate environment. Artificial tropical aging for short duration gives less effect to the surface degradation of epoxy-polysiloxane insulator material. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v10i4.846

Abstract

This study is to investigate human perceptions on pairing of facial expressions of emotion with colours. A group of 27 subjects consisting mainly of younger and Malaysian had participated in this study. For each of the seven faces, which expresses the basic emotions neutral, happiness, surprise, anger, disgust, fear and sadness, a single colour is chosen from the eight basic colours for the “match” of best visual look to the face accordingly. The different emotions appear well characterized by a single colour. The approaches used in this experiment for analysis are psychology disciplines and colours engineering. These seven emotions are being matched by the subjects with their perceptions and feeling. Then, 12 male and 12 female data are randomly chosen from among the previous data to make a colour perception comparison between genders. The successes or failures in running of this test depend on the possibility of subjects to propose their every single colour for each expression. The result will translate into number and percentage as a guide for colours designers and psychology field. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v10i4.862

Abstract

Traditional evolutionary algorithm trapped into the local minimum easily. Therefore, based on a simple evolutionary algorithm and combine the base ideology of orthogonal test then applied it to the population initialization, crossover operator, as well as the introduction of Inver-Over operator to prevent local convergence to form a new evolutionary algorithm. Through the series of numerical experiments, the new algorithm has been proved is efficiency for function optimization. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v10i4.877

Abstract

This article discusses the existing calculation of heat for a coal-fired hot-blast furnace. By utilizing the standard method of heat calculation for boilers, considering the relation between the theoretical combustion temperature and the excess air coefficient of the boiler, combining some operational parameters of a coal-fired powder hot-blast furnace, the heat calculation of iron ore concentrating dry combustion on a coal-fired hot stove is discussed. It is used to prevent coke and optimize combustion. It also discusses the advantages and disadvantages of flue gas recirculation systems. The conclusion will show the practical applications of this. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v10i4.857

Abstract

Coverage is one of the fundamental problems in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) since it is an important measure of Quality of Service (QoS) for the network’s applications. However, due to random development, power exhausting, intrusion and attacking of other malice nodes, coverage holes often appear and undermine the networks. In order to solve this problem, we present a decentralized, coordinate-free, and fault-tolerant algorithm for detecting coverage holes, which can be run on a single node. It only needs the connectivity information gathered from one-hop neighbors of the running node. During the detection process, maximal simplicial complex of the local area is required to determine whether the node is at the boundary of a hole or not. After the information of sensors around the coverage hole will be processed by the base station, and the size of coverage holes will be obtained. Simulation results show the fault tolerance of the proposed method. Meanwhile the detection accuracy, error-detection and missed-detection are compared with some related methods reported recently. The results also show that our method is effective, robust, and especially suitable for large scale networks. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v10i4.873

Abstract

This paper proposed an alternative approach to face recognition algorithm that is based on global/holistic features of face image and simplified Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA). The proposed method can overcome main problems of the conventional LDA in terms of large processing time for retraining when a new class data was registered into the training data set. The holistic features of face image were proposed as dimensional reduction of raw face image. While, the simplified LDA which is the redefinition of between class scatter using constant global mean assignment was proposed to decrease time complexity of retraining process. In order to know the performance of the proposed method, several experiments were performed using several challenging face databases: ORL, YALE, ITS-Lab, INDIA, and FERET database. Furthermore, we compared the developed algorithm experimental results to the best traditional subspace methods such as DLDA, 2DLDA, (2D)2DLDA, 2DPCA, and (2D)22DPCA. The experimental results show that the proposed method can solve the retraining problem of the conventional LDA indicated by requiring short retraining time and stable recognition rate. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v10i4.1258

Abstract

To further improve the security of digital image steganography, based on graph transformation diversity, proposing a zero-steganographic model .After divided into many blocks, the secret information is deduced by graphic transform algorithm, a cover image steganographic model for not carrying secret information is constructed. Firstly, selecting a batch of cover images, through a particular transformation algorithm for them, and then find out the correlation of pixels between secret images and the new images, finally return to its original for transmission. Extracting secret information only to need the key without carrier images, further improve the security of secret information. Experimental results and analysis show that this model confidential is strong, the security is good, applies to images concealed communication. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v10i4.863

Abstract

The key point for the success of clouding computing technology in terms of application is whether such operation can produce the sense of trustworthiness to its users. Technical measurement has always been the fundamental preventive precaution, no matter what kind of aspect in dealing with producing the sense of trustworthiness.  Except technical measurement, there are two developing issues surrounding the central idea worth notice, which are the protection of information privacy and the jurisdictional issue. The main purpose of this article is to focus on the issue of protecting information privacy and jurisdictional problem through the newly developed cloud computing technology. This article will first introduce the characteristics of cloud computing technology in order to pave the way for further discussion. Then the issue of protecting information privacy and jurisdictional problem will be discussed through disparity of legal protection of information privacy and principles for asserting jurisdiction within Internet. The personal observation and suggestion will be made at the end of this article for a future possible adjustment of infrastructure for the protection of information privacy and jurisdictional decision within cyberspace in order to promote the sense of trustworthiness of the cloud computing technology user. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v10i4.878
