Today’s Economic Dispatch (ED) solutions are featured with environmental obligations. Hence, the significant objective functions contribute to cost minimization, lower emission and less total system losses. As an alternative, New Meta Heuristic Evolutionary Programming (NMEP) technique was proposed to optimize the individual ED problem categorized as Single Objective Environmental Economic Dispatch (SOEELD), developed from an integration of original Meta Heuristic Evolutionary Programming (Meta-EP) with Artificial Immune System (AIS) with new arrangement in the mutation and cloning processes. The comparative analysis was conducted between the original Meta-EP and classical method of Hadi Saadat to verify the performance of NMEP method. Each particular objective function identified the best possible outcomes through the NMEP method. The simulations were conducted using MATLAB programming which tested both standard IEEE 26 and 57 bus systems.

Program slicing is to abstract a part of source code depending on the point of interest. It used widely in maintenance, debugging and testing. There are many slicing techniques such as static, dynamic, and amorphous. In this paper, we choose to develop a new approach applying static slicing on Java programs. The new approach simplifies the data dependency using arrays. A new Tool called Java Multi-Slicing Tool (JavaMST) has been introduced to apply this approach.JavaMST presents new ways to slice any simple java code segment, it allows you to extract the variables and its direct and indirect dependencies from the code, using backward, forward or both slicing techniques to produce the needed code. This tool is a simple tool designed to deal with simple java code segments. JavaMST can be run under any operating system and does not require a specialized platforms or plug-ins. Therefore, it is useful to be used for educational purposes.

This paper investigates a multistage batch arrival queue with different server interruptions and a second server replaces the main server during the interruptions. The different server interruptions are assumed to be: multiple vacation, extended vacation, breakdown with delay time and server under two phases of repair. Customers are assumed to arrive in batches according to Poisson process and a single server provides service to the customers. When the main server is inactive due to the interruptions, stand-by server provide service to the arrivals. In addition, customers may renege during server breakdown or during server vacation due to impatience. Transient solution and the corresponding steady state solution is derived using supplementary variable technique.

This paper presents the performance evaluation of hybrid Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model with selected meta-heuristics for predicting the AC output power fof a Grid-Connected Photovoltaic (GCPV). The ANN has been hybridized with three meta-heuristics, i.e. Cuckoo Search Algorithm (CSA), Evolutionary Programming (EP) and Firefly Algorithm (FA) separately. These meta-heuristics were used to optimize the number of neurons, learning rate and momentum rate such that the Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) of the prediction was minimized during the ANN training process. The results showed that CSA had outperformed EP and FA in producing the lowest RMSE. Later, Mutated Cuckoo Search Algorithm (MCSA) was introduced by incorporating Gaussian mutation operator in the conventional CSA. Further investigation showed that MSCA performed better prediction when compared with the conventional CSA in terms of RMSE and computation time.

The unauthorized access to the university entrance could be gained by only flashing a student card. This unsecure situation shows the loophole of security authentication in a university. In order to overcome this, a biometric recognition could be the most suitable candidate as it varies uniquely from one person to another. A study on student cards’ biometric recognition using Viola-Jones algorithm is presented as it is proven as a powerful algorithm in terms of superb detection rates and speed. It is done by comparing the facial structures and features between the student card’s image and the card holder image, thus determining the similarity. The recognition performance is evaluated based on the percentage of similarity using 100 testing images of 50 students. The observation on results obtained the effectiveness of the Viola-Jones features in student cards’ biometric recognition rate.

The power generated by solar photovoltaic (PV) is highly affected by the weather environment. Thin-Film solar module of cadmium telluride (CdTe) is one of the Semi-transparent PV (STPV) that can be employed in a wide application range as a means to sunlight permeability while supplying solar electrical energy with some shading which also preferable in hot areas. The system behavior and the forecast of a STPV harvested energy requires an accurate and reliable discribtion for the power pattern rate during the day time. This research presents a real-time daily measurements for CdTe PV modules that serve the system design, prediction, and modeling. Multilayer and single installation categories are configured to be experimentally tested at different weather conditions (temperature and irradiance). The measurements were conducted at UPM University, Serdang, Malaysia, where a 6 different modules are expreinced. A wireless monitoring system with high sampling frequency employed for this purose. The results show an efficiency of 2.51 as a maximum in cloudy day conditions, while the harvested daily energy show that a multi-layer configuration may only be effective when the transparency is high. This new generation of PV module is similar to that for Silicon-based PV but it has threshold value to start power generating and promises for efficient sustainable building materials

The increasing penetration of electric vehicle (EV) at distribution system is expected in the near future leading to rising demand for power consumption. Large scale uncoordinated charging demand of EVs will eventually threatens the safety operation of the distribution network. Therefore, a charging strategy is needed to reduce the impact of charging. This paper proposes an optimal centralized charging schedule coordination of EV to minimize active power losses while maintaining the voltage profile at the demand side. The performance of the schedule algorithm developed using particle swarm optimization (PSO) technique is evaluated at the IEEE-33 Bus radial distribution system in a set time frame of charging period. Coordinated and uncoordinated charging schedule is then compared in terms of active power losses and voltage profile at different level of EV penetration considering 24 hours of load demand profile. Results show that the proposed coordinated charging schedule is able to achieve minimum total active power losses compared to the uncoordinated charging.

The objective of the proposal is to address the demand on data over the services provided by telecommunication industries during major events held in Malaysia especially in stadiums. Previously, during most of the events, users will experience bad services in both data and voice transactions. It is not only slow or delayed but almost failed to access the network to connect them to the world. Besides a few solutions that have been introduced such as IBC (In-Building Coverage) and Small Cells, this proposed solution Multibeam RF Antenna, is one of them to address the demand. It is now well known that employing channel knowledge based on signaling techniques in wireless mobile ad-hoc networks (MANET) system can yield large improvements in almost all performance metric. Here we proposed the adaptive scheduling, in which the work done is based upon the bandwidth information of channel to provide better quality of service (‘QoS’) to the cell-edge mobile stations. Channel information is critical based on which scheduling is carried out. The bandwidth channel information contains estimation delay, the pilot channel noise and pilot contamination. Afterwards, Zero Forcing precoding methodology has applied for removing the interference at user nodes, destination nodes and gateway side. By extending the characteristics of ZF, the modified Zero Forcing (MZF) has proposed to achieve higher throughput rate and higher spectrum efficiency. The achievable-rates of the ZF and MZF has derived under the comprehensive model of imperfect bandwidth information.

The use of renewable power sources, like wind power, has been increased recently due to climatic changes caused by fossil fuels and fast depletion of fossil fuels. This has lead to the tremendous increase in the interconnection of wind turbines to power system grid. This interconnection on a large number in to grid causes problems such as power quality, maintaining system voltage, reactive power compensation, control of grid frequency and aspects of power system grid stability. In this proposed scheme, a fuzzy logic based controller is employed for a STATCOM to improve the power quality. The proposed control scheme supplies the required reactive power to the system and thus relieves the source, leading to Unity Power Factor (UPF) at the source and also it injects currents to reduce total harmonic distortion (THD) to satisfy IEC standard. For extracting the reference currents, a power balance theory based control algorithm is employed. To determine the effectiveness of the proposed fuzzy logic controller, a comparative analysis is also performed with a PI controller and the results have been presented.
