Abstract

The principle of the traveling wave based differential protection for bipolar HVDC transmission lines is proposed in the paper. Unlike the traditional current differential protection, the quantity of current is replaced by the quantity of the traveling wave for comparison. The traveling wave at the remote end is transferred to the local end for comparison to the local traveling wave. For the bipolar DC transmission lines, the polar-mode (aerial mode) traveling waves are employed to establish the discriminative criterion. The ground-mode traveling waves are utilized for faulty line detector for bipolar operation modes. The entire protection scheme is simulated in PSCAD/EMTDC associated with the standard ±500kV HVDC transmission system. The simulation results show that the new protection has the advantages of higher sensitivity, reliability and security. The fault resistance can be coverd by the traveling wave based differential protection reaches to 500 Ohm.  DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i12.3700

Abstract

Camera calibration is essential to obtain 3D information from 2D image, for underwater camera self-calibration, because the linear model can not accurately describe the imaging geometry of real cameras, the underwater camera nonlinear model and its calibration method are studied. According to the relationship between underwater and air in the camera focal length, principal point and no vertical factors, the underwater camera imaging geometry is modeled. Underwater camera nonlinear imaging geometry is modeled with the radial distortion. The constraint equation of the nonlinear model parameters are set up with linear imaging model and fundamental matrix of the matching points, which realize the camera self-calibration of nonlinear parameters. For the linear parameters of the camera, with the principal point and no vertical factor known, the self calibration of the focal length can be realized with two images, according to the Kruppa equation. Simulation and real image experiments show that the method given is feasible, and has certain practical value. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i12.3726

Abstract

Critical chain management was the very important theory innovation in the development of construction project schedule management field in recent years. Compared with the traditional methods of construction project schedule management, the methods of critical chain management considered resource constraints into construction project schedule management, the construction project cycle was shortened and the efficiency was enhanced by using the dynamic thinking and circulation pattern to manage whole project. In view of the progress of critical chain management of the article, fuzzy theory  was used to calculate and optimize the buffer zone sizes with the determination of the buffer size of  the existing resources in certain critical chain management so as to shorten the cycle. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i12.3591

Abstract

Network on chip (NoC) traffic congestion was one of the important reasons for the data transmission performance degradation. In this paper, we presented a congestion judgment algorithm, which was based on neural network. The congestion control algorithm firstly used the hamming network to compute the NoC's link buffer congestion state, secondly used the competitive network to find the worst congestion node, and then adopted avoiding congested node  routing policy to improve the NoC’s transmission performance. In this paper, the congestion control algorithm can make the data stream as far as possible evenly distributed in the NoC’s nodes and links and reduce the transmission resource competition. The simulation results showed that the congestion control algorithm could achieve better network throughput and average transmission delay. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i12.3987

Abstract

In order to analyze the back of hand vein pattern rapidly and effectively, a novel approach based on multi-scale second-order differential model is proposed to extract the vein texture from vein samples directly, which is made up of two section: one is the foundation of local second-order differential model of vein texture(VLSDM), the other is texture extraction based on the multi-scale VLSDM. This paper analyzes the vein extraction using the multi-scale VLSDM and handles the filter response using the method of multi-scale analyzed noise filtered. This new algorithm has achieved good results for the vein texture, which is fuzzy, uneven distributed and cross-adhesion. Additionally this method keeps the original form of local shape and achieves orientation and scale information of the vein texture. The experiment result getting from this new method has also compared with another method and shown its outstanding performance. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i12.3658

Abstract

In this paper, a 3-phase induction motor model for simulation the field oriented control (FOC) system based on space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) is established in Ansoft/Simplorer software. The theory of field oriented control (FOC) and the principle of space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) were introduced. The simulation results are presented and analyzed. A Simulink simulation model of field oriented control system is presented as a comparison under the same conditions. The results indicated that the Simplorer model had quick response speed, small torque fluctuations and good performance both in steady and dynamic states. Furthermore, the Simplorer model can be coupled with the finite element model of the motor to achieve field-circuit coupling simulation of induction motor’s field oriented control system. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i12.3674

Abstract

Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) was used to characterize the electromagnetic scattering (EMS) for targets in layered space. A new set of 1D modified Maxwell equations and auxiliary equations with incident angle was derived from 2D Maxwell equations and was used to compute the electromagnetic field in vertical boundary in 2D total field-scattered field (TF/SF), and thus incidence of uniform plane wave in time domain can be directly realized. In order to avoid complex Somerfield integration, the reciprocity theorem was used to simplify an extrapolation algorithm. Then the proposed algorithm and program in this paper were validated by applying them to compute the electromagnetic scattered field for targets in half-space and the radiation field for line current in layered lossy space. Finally this algorithm was used to characterize EMS for a tunnel in multi-layered space, for a tunnel open to vehicle, and for a tunnel and vehicle in lossless layered space. The results show the vehicle has a great impact on the scattering field, and the layered media surrounded the target can shield the scattering field. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i12.3699

Abstract

The empirical mode decomposition (EMD) is well known for predicting wind speed. However, but the joint application of relevance vector machine (RVM) and empirical mode decomposition in wind speed forecasting is seldom found in the field. This paper proposes a relevance vector machine model based on empirical mode decomposition to predict the wind speed. Before the wind speed forecasting with RVM,EMD algorithm is used to decompose wind speed signal in order to weaken the disadvantageous influences of nonlinearity and uncertainty in wind spped. By the decomposition process, a series of intrinsic mode functions (IMFs) are generated. To each IMF, RVM algorithm is used to construct the model and carry on the forecast espectively. The final predicted result is obtained by the superposition of all prediction results. By the simulation experiment, the comparison of several algorithms is shown. The results showed that EMD-RVM model is effective, and has better forecasting precision. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i12.2770

Abstract

Based on the conduction mechanism of vacuum trigger diode, an experimental scheme has been designed to research on the effect of voltage parameters on radiation characteristics of vacuum trigger diode. The factors affecting radiation characteristics of vacuum trigger diode were analyzed. With increase of charging voltage, the trigger current increases, the radiation enhances and radiation band moves up. With increase of anode-cathode voltage, more high density plasma of anode is generated by the electron bombardment anode, the radiation enhances and upper frequency limit is expanded. So the theoretical analysis is proved. Because of trigger electrode, the vacuum diode can be controlled more flexibly and conveniently. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i12.3746
