Abstract

We report that the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) can be improved by the stochastic resonance (SR) in a tristable system. The system is driven by Gaussian white noise and a sinusoidal signal, and studied by using the second-order Runge-Kutta method. We find that the SNR gain exhibits the stochastic resonance behavior, and greatly exceeds unity on some occasions. This result is the latest development of the tristable stochastic resonance, and has potential applications in the signal detection, processing and communications.  DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i12.3712

Abstract

Recently, micro-grid gains more and more concerns, because it is flexible and environmentally friendly. Optimization of the distributed generators operation in micro-grid is a complicated and challenging task, a multi objective optimal model was designed to cut off the operation cost, improve the economic benefits and reduce the emission. However, the randomness of the renewable energy generation and load demand makes the decision process much more complicated. Chance constrained programming (CCP) was employed to deal with these uncertainties. Besides, the satisfaction degree of the decision was taken into consideration to coordinate the conflicts among different targets. Through the weighted satisfaction degree and coordinate degree, the multi-objective programming can be transformed into single-objective programming. To gain the solution of the optimization problem, genetic algorithm was utilized to search for the optimal strategy. To verify the validity of the proposed model, an energy management system of micro-grid with five types distributed generators was taken as the case study. The results indicate the effectiveness of the proposed method. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i12.3751

Abstract

Collision detection is an important application in the field of virtual reality, and efficiently completing collision detection has become the research focus. For the poorly real-time defect of collision detection, this paper has presented an algorithm based on the hybrid collision detection, detecting the potential collision object sets quickly with the mixed bounding volume hierarchy tree, and then using the streaming pattern collision detection algorithm to make an accurate detection. With the above methods, it can achieve the purpose of balancing load of the CPU and GPU and speeding up the detection rate. The experimental results show that compared with the classic Rapid algorithm, this algorithm can effectively improve the efficiency of collision detection. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i12.3744

Abstract

Aiming at the cooperation between the alliance partners, this paper takes advantage of the game theory to establish two models of the single game and repetitive game. Through the analysis of these two types of models, it is concluded that the decision of choosing to keep faith or break one’s promise is related to the winning probability and litigation costs in the every stage of a single game. Meanwhile, the choice that both sides will select trustworthiness or dishonesty in the transaction and the chances of cooperation later are concerned with the marketing discount factors as well as the income and the loss of a cooperation in a repetitive game. The basic conclusion of this paper can provide a foundation for alliance partners to make decisions in their cooperative process. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i12.3595

Abstract

In this paper, definitions of knowledge granulation and rough entropy are proposed based on dominance relations in incomplete fuzzy information system, and important properties are obtained. It can be found that using the definitions can measure uncertainty of an attribute set in the incomplete fuzzy information systems. A matrix algorithm for attributes reduction is acquired in the systems. An example illustrates the validity of this algorithm, and results of compared with other existing methods show that the algorithm is an efficient tool for data mining. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i12.3725

Abstract

Tag estimation can improve the throughput of the UHF passive RFID systems. It plays an important role in anti-collision algorithm. In order to reduce the complexity of the estimation algorithm and the hardware support, a new algorithm based on the continuous detection mechanism has been proposed. According to the different probability of the collision and idle, the number of the continuous detected slots must be set independently. This scheme can simplify the system and reduce the extra consumption by less detecting timeslot. Simulation results indicate the proposed scheme can improve the efficiency without complicate system. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i12.3661

Abstract

Aiming at the new-generation video compression standard being formulated—HEVC, a kind of sub-pixel interpolation filtering algorithm is proposed (luminance: 1/4 precision, chrominance: 1/8 precision). Based on the algorithm, a hardware design with pipeline structure and high degree of parallelism is put forward. The hardware overhead is reduced by multiplex Wiener filter and the reduction of the size of register array. And the interpolation order of vertical priority is adopted to reduce the reading bandwidth of the storage. It is indicated from the performance analysis that this interpolation structure possesses better performance and smaller hardware overhead. This design also takes full consideration of the balance between speed and area, meeting the requirements of processing standard definition and high definition video image. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i12.3676

Abstract

Recent studies have shown that network coding can improve the performance of the distributed storage systems. However, most of these studies are theoretical which mainly focus on the bandwidth efficiency. This paper aims to provide a practical system, so NCStorage, a network-coding-based distributed storage system, is implemented. NCStorage implements network coding on the Internet, so users from all over the world can access it. Unlike traditional technologies such as erasure coding and fountain coding, re-encoding operation at storage servers is required by NCStorage. We observe that, benefiting from the re-encoding at the storage servers, the required repair bandwidth employed to repair a failed storage server is reduced, the computation overhead is balanced, and the security is enhanced. Both the encoding at the clients and the re-encoding at the storage servers are based on a deterministic algorithm. Finally, we deploy 8 storage servers in different places to evaluate the performance of the NCStorage, and the experimental results validate the analysis results.  DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i12.3709

Abstract

The traditional home power system is not suitable for the current complex household appliances for its low efficiency, which need a new power system. In this paper, a future home power system with contactless power transmission (CPT) technologies is proposed. Besides, with the consideration of using renewable power, a solar power hybrid generation system is integrated in the future power system. In addition, the distributed power system is introduced to the proposed power system instead of traditional centralized power method. The distributed power system is more stable and efficient. On the other hand, thanks to the CPT technologies, household appliances will be more safe and friendly by using CPT systems than before by eliminating cords and plugs. A simulation by PSIM DEMO version of the proposed future power system shows that the proposed concept is feasible. Furthermore, a CPT prototype has been fabricated to analyze the circuit characteristics of the CPT system.A novel concept of home power system is proposed, elaborated in detail and simulated by computer software. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v11i12.3692
