Abstract

Active Shape Models (ASM) are applied to the attachment hooks of several species of Gyrodactylus, including the notifiable pathogen G. salaris, to assign each species to its truespecies type. Linear (i.e. LDA and K-NN) andnon-linear (i.e. MLP and SVM) models are used to classify Gyrodactylus species. Speciesof Gyrodactylus, ectoparasitic monogenetic flukes of fish, are difficult to discriminate andidentify according to morphology alone and their speciation currently requires taxonomicexpertise. The current exercise sets out to confidently classify species, which in this example includes a species which is a notifiable pathogen of Atlantic salmon, to their true classwith a high degree of accuracy. The findings from the current exercise demonstrates thatimport of ASM data into a MLP classifier, outperforms several other methods of classification (i.e. LDA, K-NN and SVM) that were assessed, with an average classification accuracyof 98.72%. Abstract

This paper presents a Multi-Carrier Pulse Width Modulation control for a Single-phase 27-level Hybrid Multi-Level Inverter for photovoltaic systems. Multi-Carier Pulse Width Modulation technique uses a easy mapping to generate gate signals for the inverter. The Maximum Power Point Tracking is capable of extracting maximum power from PV array connected to each DC linkage voltage stage. The Maximum Power Point Tracking algorithm is solved by Perturb and Observer method. This is done to accomplish high energetic performance with low Total Harmonic Distortion. The grades are compared with conventional Multi-Level Inverter in terms of inferior THD is obtained and the 27-level Hybrid Muti-Level Inverter is simulated by using MATLAB/simulink.Simulated results are available to verify the usefulness and accuracy of the proposed method. This proposal can be easily extended to an n-level inverter for PV system. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v13i3.7140

Abstract

Lighting systems provide mine workers improved visibility and contribute to improved safety, productivity, and morale. Lighting is critical to miners, since they depend heavily on visual cues to spot fall of ground, pinning & striking and slipping & tripping hazards. Most conventional systems of lighting are used in mines are extracting a lots of power and deal with major maintenance problems. Apart from the conventional grid-power lighting systems, additional emergency lighting system using green energy is mandatory in case of grid-power failure or in disaster situation of the underground mines. The luminous efficacy increases with switching frequency while providing eye comfort to user. Even though CFL has low power consumption for solar photovoltaic (SPV) power system, but CFL’s electrical requirements are not easily met by hard-switched inverters due to their higher switching losses at higher frequencies and preheat and ignition voltage of CFL results lower efficiency. This paper demands well suited high frequency inverter and a series interrupting type charge controller for illumination at remote areas. DOI:  http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v13i3.7069

Abstract

In this paper, a compact 2×4 microstrip antenna (MSA) array is presented and the effect of inserting shorting wall is optimized with the help of artificial neural network (ANN). An ANN model has been developed for predicting the resonant frequencies with the variation of the height of substrate and shorting wall position. For validation of ANN output, a prototype of 2×4 MSA array is physically fabricated and tested. This validation verifies the proposed antenna for which simulated and ANN results are approximately similar. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v13i3.7089

Abstract

Transient stability is the ability of the power system to maintain synchronism when subjected to a severe disturbance, such as a short circuit on a transmission line. To improve stability, inductive type superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) and shunt FACTS Controller (SVC) can be effectively used. This paper proposes the use of combined model based SFCL and SVC for enhancing the transient stability of a multi-machine power system considering the automatic voltage regulator. The main role of the proposed combined model is to attain at the same time a flexible control of reactive power using SVC Controller and to reduce fault current using superconducting technology based SFCL. In the present work, modification of the admittance matrix method is used for modeling of SFCL; Critical Clearing Time (CCT) has been used as an index for evaluated transient stability. The transient stability is assessed by the criterion of relative rotor angles, using numerical integration method. The effectiveness of the proposed combined model is tested on the IEEE benchmarked four-machine two-area test system applied to the case of three-phase short circuit fault in one transmission line. A simulation results are presented in this document. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/telkomnika.v13i3.7175
