Abstract

The revolution of the Internet of Things (IoT) has given a better way of monitoring things including anything that could gather data and share the information over the internet. Most of the connected things are using Device to Device (D2D) connection to make it available on the internet such as client to a broker or client to a server. However, when IoT devices such as embedded devices and sensors that are connected to the internet, it becomes an open path for attackers to acquire the data and data vulnerably will become an issue. Thus, data integrity might become an issue, or the attackers could temper the data and could cause a disastrous domino effect to the interconnected IoT devices. Therefore, the data security collected from the sensors is substantial even though it could be a single character transmitted. However, IoT sensors are low powered devices in term of CPU, storage, memory and batteries. Securing the devices such as integrating the encryption algorithm computations might give overhead to the sensors and draining the batteries even faster than it is predicted. Alternatively, this paper attempts to explore the capabilities of the asymmetric scheme on resource constrained devices for its communications. Thus, this paper presents an RF communication analysis of a low consumption asymmetric encryption, the AAβ (AA-Beta) especially on encryption section that is likely to be feasible on IoT devices to preserve the data integrity. The design of RF transmission has been considered to suit the RF transceiver capability to prevent data losses and error from occurring. The result shows that 2.35 times of RF transmits runtime increased compared to RF simulation runtime. Meanwhile, at the receiver side, the runtime increases 60% compared to the simulation.

Abstract

Diabetes is a fast spreading illness, which makes to worry millions of people around the globe. The people affected by type-2 diabetes are rapidly increasing and there are no effective diagnostic systems to control the diabetics. As per global health statistics, in western countries, population effected by type 2 diabetics are higher in rate and cost factor for treatment is increasing. There are no effective methods to eradicate the diabetes and it leads to carry out an investigative study on this disease. In existing reviews, researchers are using data analysis approaches to link the cause for diabetes with the patients based on the diet, life style, inheritance details, age factor, medical history, etc. to identify the root cause of the problem. By having multiple key factors and historical datasets, there are some data mining tools were developed, to generate new rules on the root cause of the disease and discover new knowledge from the past data’s, but the accuracy was not promising. The main objective of this paper is to carry out a detail literature review and design a conceptual data mining method at initial stage and implement it to improve the result accuracy compared to other classifiers. In this research, two data-mining algorithm were proposed at conceptual level: Self Organizing Map (SOM) and Random Forest Algorithm, which is applied on adult population datasets. The data set used for this research are from UCI machine Learning Repository: Diabetes Dataset. In this paper, data mining algorithms were discussed and implementation results were evaluated. Based on the result performance evaluation, Self-organizing maps have performed better compared to the Random Forest and other data mining algorithms such as naïve Bayes, decision tree, SVM and MLP for diagnosing the diabetes with better accuracy. In future, once system is implemented, it can be integrated with diabetic detector device for faster diagnosis of TYPE 2 diabetes disease.

Abstract

Cross language information retrieval (CLIR) is a retrieval process in which the user fires queries in one language to retrieve information from another (different) language. The diversity of information and language barriers are the serious issues for communication and cultural exchange across the world. To solve such barriers, Cross language information retrieval system, are nowadays in strong demand. CLIR is a subset of Information Retrieval (IR) system. Information Retrieval deals with finding useful information from a large collection of unstructured, structured and semi-structured data to a user query where the query is a set of keywords. Information Retrieval can be classified into different classes such as Monolingual information retrieval, Bi-Lingual Information Retrieval, Multilingual information retrieval and Cross language information retrieval. This paper focuses on the various IR variants and techniques used in CLIR system. Further, based on available literature, a number of challenges and issues in CLIR have been identified and discussed. It gives an overview of the advantages, limitations, tools available in CLIR research. It also describes new application areas of CLIR such as medical, multimedia, question answering system etc. The need for exploring and building more specialized information system that enable speakers of an Odia language to discover valuable information beyond linguistic and cultural barriers. This study is aimed at building an experimental CLIR system between one of the under-resourced language (i.e. Odia) and one of the most commonly used online language (i.e. English) in future.

Abstract

This paper presents the evaluation of basic Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and Bag of Features (BoF) for Leaf Recognition. In this study, the performance of basic CNN and BoF for leaf recognition using a publicly available dataset called Folio dataset has been investigated. CNN has proven its powerful feature representation power in computer vision. The same goes with BoF where it has set new performance standards on popular image classification benchmarks and has achieved scalability breakthrough in image retrieval. The feature that is being utilized in the BoF is Speeded-Up Robust Feature (SURF) texture feature. The experimental results indicate that BoF achieves better accuracy compared to basic CNN.

Abstract

In this paper, a new hybrid optimization technique is proposed namely Adaptive Embedded Clonal Evolutionary Programming (AECEP). This idea comes from the combination part of the clone in an Artificial Immune System (AIS) and then combined with Evolutionary Programming (EP). This technique was implemented to determine the optimal sizing of Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) devices. This study focused on the ability of Static Var Compensator (SVC) is used for the optimal operation of the power system as well as in reducing congestion in power system. In order to determine the location of SVC, the previous study has been done using pre-developed voltage stability index, Fast Voltage Stability Index (FVSI). Congested lines or buses will be identified based on the highest FVSI value for the purpose of SVC placement. The optimizations were conducted for the SVC sizing under single contingency, where SVC was modeled in steady state analysis. The objective function of this study is to minimize the power loss and improve the voltage profile along with the reduction of congestion with the SVC installation in the system. Validation on the IEEE 30 Bus RTS and IEEE 118 Bus RTS revealed that the proposed technique managed to reduce congestion in power system.

Abstract

Frequency response measurements are used for power transformer winding failures detection. The variation between frequency responses indicate mechanical changes in the transformer winding. One method to investigate winding failures in transformer is to develop a reliable circuit model which can simulate the frequency response of an actual winding. The main reason to use the model is because it is expensive to create damages on an actual winding. This paper proposes n-stages circuit ladder network to simulate the response of a winding which has unique design. It presents a new technique to calculate the resistance, inductance and capacitance of the winding. Then, the relationship between the RLC parameters and the frequency response is studied. The winding chosen in this investigation is a single phase 33kV transformer winding. The simulated frequency response was compared with the measured response to verify the proposed model. The model can give a comprehensive understanding about the effect of RLC parameters on the frequency response.

Abstract

In this paper, we investigate system performance in term of throughput and ergodic capacity of the hybrid time-power switching protocol of energy harvesting bidirectional relaying network. In the first stage, the analytical expression of the system throughput and ergodic capacity of the model system is proposed and derived. In this analysis, both delay-limited and delay-tolerant transmission modes are presented and considered. After that, the effect of various system parameters on the proposed system is investigated and demonstrated by Monte-Carlo simulation. Finally, the results show that the analytical mathematical and simulated results match for all possible parameter values for both schemes.

Abstract

A Graphical User Interface (GUI) design was developed to extract data from a data logger. The low-cost data logger was developed using a common pic18f4550 microcontroller. Simple data recording feature is implemented by using the Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory (EEPROM) module from the microcontroller unit. The GUI software employed VB.net 2013 and has been tested to work in window 10 environment.  Simulation work was performed with temperature and humidity sensors using Proteus VSM software. Upon simulation, the GUI shows its capability of extracting measured data from the data logger and converting the data to a Comma-Separated Values, (CSV) format for further analysis.

Abstract

Cervical cancer is the second most common in Malaysia and the fourth frequent cancer among women in worldwide.  Pap smear test is often ignored although it is actually useful, beneficial and essential as screening tool for cervical cancer. However, Pap smear images have low sensitivity as well as specificity. Therefore, it is difficult to determine whether the abnormal cells are cancerous or not. Recently, computer-based algorithms are widely used in cervical cancer screening. In this study, an improved cellular neural network (CNN) algorithm is proposed as the solution to detect the cancerous cells in real-time by undergoing the image processing of Pap smear images. A few templates are combined and modified to form an ideal CNN algorithm to detect the cancerous cells in total of 115 Pap smear images. A MATLAB based CNN is developed for an automated detection of cervix cancerous cells where the templates segmented the nucleus of the cells. From the simulation results, our proposed CNN algorithm can detect the cervix cancer cells automatically with more than 88% accuracy.

Abstract

In medical field, the recognition of red blood cells (RBC) are used as an indicator to detect the type of diseases such as anaemia, malaria and leukaemia etc. The problems using manual detection of normal and abnormal RBCs under the microscope is tend to give inaccurate result and errors. This paper proposed a method to recognize the normal and abnormal shaped RBCs image by using Form Factor as feature descriptor. Detecting normal cells of RBCs indicate a healthy patient and abnormal cells indicate presence of disease. And is very important in medical field to detect abnormal condition in early stage because it saves and protects human lives. The patients waiting time for blood test is more because the time taking to generate the result of the patient is high due to high demand and less equipment this method is used in order to improve the accuracy of the existing one and 94% accuracy was achieved in the detection.
