Abstract

Stress-induced hyperglycemia is common in critically ill patients, but there is uncertainty about what constitutes an optimal blood glucose target range for glycemic control. Furthermore, to reduce the rate of hyperglycemic and hypoglycemic events, model-based glycemic control protocols have been introduced, such as the stochastic targeted (STAR) glycemic control protocol. This protocol has been used in the intensive care units of Christchurch and Gyulà Hospital since 2010, and in Malaysia since 2017. In this study, we analyzed the adaptability of the protocol and identified the blood glucose target range most favorable for use in the Malaysian population. Virtual simulation results are presented for two clinical cohorts: one receiving treatment by the STAR protocol itself and the other receiving intensive insulin therapy by the sliding scale method. Performance and safety were analyzed using five clinical target ranges, and best control was simulated at a target range of 6.0–10.0 mmol/L. This target range had the best balance of performance, with the lowest risk of hypoglycemia and the lowest requirement for nursing interventions. The result is encouraging as the STAR protocol is suitable to provide better and safer glycemic control while using a target range that is already widely used in Malaysian intensive care units

Abstract

Social capital refers to the resources available in personal and business networks. In developing a culture that values and practices social capital, social factors are considered one of the main precursors.  With the proliferation of social commerce and the maturing of social media, social capital can be acquired and further developed for productive benefits, particularly for energy sectors in Malaysia. In this study, an integrated social commerce framework to promote social capital is presented and evaluated. The framework attempted to define the relationship between the Theories of Planned Behavior (TPB) and Social Support Theory (SST) alongside satisfaction and perceived value factors towards promoting social capital development in energy sectors. This research uses SPSS to analyse the data collected from employee in the energy sectors in Malaysia. Research reveals that social capital is present when there is trust and loyalty among the users and the significance of social capital is monumental for energy sectors’ productivity, efficiency and profitability. A survey is adapted and distributed to 20 respondents from the energy sector in Malaysia as a mean to study on the validity and reliability of the research factors. Results indicate that all proposed factors are significant in promoting social capital except one, which is the Perceived Behavioral Control (PBC) of the TPB.

Abstract

This paper presents a comparative performance of the antennas fabricated using bulk micromachining and surface micromachining process. The dielectric permittivity of crystal silicon (Si) and glass are ɛr = 11.9 and ɛr = 4.7, respectively are considered in the substrates comparison studied. The research aims to discover the best antenna performance by alternative micromachining modes for integrating with the RF harvester printed circuit design. Here, the study on micromachining process method involves the simulation study of three different structures and materials, such as Si with air gap, Si surface and glass surface based antenna. These antennas have been modelled using CST-MWS software. The micromachined antennas have been optimized operating at 5 GHz band. The parameters such as S-parameter, -10 dB bandwidth, radiation pattern, gain, directivity and VSWR are evaluated. The outcomes validate good characteristic of glass based surface micromachined antenna over the Si based for both bulk micromachined and surface micromachined antenna. The results show that the Si surface micromachined antenna is not able to reach the requirement for RF antenna specification, however, it is improved by creating the air cavity. Furthermore, the use of glass substrate has increased the antenna gain by 5.34% and the -10 dB bandwidth increased by 72.86% compared to the Si with air cavity. The glass based antenna dimension is reduced by 9.09% and 44.93% compared to Si bulk micromachined and Si surface micromachined antenna, respectively. Thus, the characteristics of the glass surface micromachined antenna are relatively appropriate for highly efficient RF energy harvester application

Abstract

This article on Systematic Literature Review (SLR) provides the issues and challenges faced by organizations when adopting EA.  Firstly, a review of literature that discusses the problems and challenges was undertaken.  Methods and theories adopted were reviewed to identify the existing approach and perspective on resulting factors that influenced EA adoption.  Based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria defined in the review process, 16 articles were selected.  A total of 19 challenges and problems were identified such as EA misconceptions, overlapping organizational rules, unclear leadership as well as lack of business and IT alignment.  A sum of 15 factors from multidimensional contexts that influenced the EA adoption in the organization were also discussed, such as top management support, governance, communication as well as EA knowledge and skill.  This SLR also reflected that there were relatively little empirical studies conducted on EA adoption studies. The existing studies tend to apply single and multiple theories from the organization and management domains in one study.  By understanding such issues and challenges, risks can be reduced and avoided when introducing EA to organizations, and subsequently ease the deployment process. Thus, this article may shed light on understanding  the organizational-related factors and the underlying relationships of EA adoption. As a result, an effective adoption of EA can be facilitated in the organizations.
