Abstract

This paper concerns the application of model-based predictive control to the longitudinal and lateral mode of an aircraft in a terrain following task. The predictive control approach was based on a quadratic cost function and a linear state space prediction model with input and state constraints. The optimal control was obtained as the solution of a quadratic programming problem defined over a receding horizon. Closed-loop simulations were carried out by using the linear aircraft model. This project thesis provides a brief overview of Model Predictive Control (MPC).A brief history of industrial model predictive control technology has been presented first followed by a some concepts like the receding horizon, moves etc. which form the basis of the MPC. It follows the Optimization problem which ultimately leads to the description of the Dynamic Matrix Control (DMC).The MPC presented in this report is based on DMC. After this the application summary and the limitations of the existing technology has been discussed and the next generation MPC, with an emphasis on potential business and research opportunities has been reviewed. Finally in the last part we generate Matlab code to implement basic model predictive controller and introduce noise into the model.

Abstract

This paper provides the survey of the heuristics solution approaches for the traveling salesman problem (TSP). TSP is easy to understand, however, it is very difficult to solve. Due to complexity involved with exact solution approaches it is hard to solve TSP within feasible time. That’s why different heuristics are generally applied to solve TSP. Heuristics to solve TSP are presented here with detailed algorithms. At the end, comparison among selected approaches shows the efficiency of approaches in terms of solution quality and time consumed to solve TSP.

Abstract

As wind power penetration increases continuously in total Power Generation, the wind turbines are necessary to stay connected to grid even under grid disturbances. An enhanced control strategy for DFIG is proposed in the present paper to meet the latest grid codes set by grid operators. The decoupled current controller implemented in grid voltage oriented reference frame is applied to Grid Side Converter (GSC) to improve the dynamic performance of DFIG. The proposed scheme enhances the Low Voltage ride through capability of Wind farm by providing reactive Power support under adverse grid conditions. The Proposed scheme also counteracts the ripples in DC Link voltage, stator/rotor currents and stator/reactive power to fulfill the grid code commitments in weak grid.Simulation results are presented to verify the feasibility and robustness of the proposed control scheme.

Abstract

Many researchers assume that the distribution of the nodes is done in a two-dimensional environment in the reason that the height of this network is negligible compared to its width and length. However, in the reality, three-dimensional (3D) deployment of the wireless sensor networks is used. Therefore, many applications require 3D architecture such as underwater, space communications, atmospheric, forest or building. Unfortunately, the energy consumption and throughput in the 3D environment decreases considerably compared to 2D in which we can’t neglect them in some applications. In his paper we applied the 3D architecture in LEACH protocol and we prove by computer simulation how this 2D approximation is not reasonable since the lifetime of 3D WSN decrease by about 21% over than 2D WSN.

Abstract

We propose, in this paper, a new method for Content Based Image Retrieval (CBIR) by exploiting the digital image content. Our method is based on the representation of the digital image content by a characteristics vector of the indexed image. Indeed, we have exploited the image texture to extract its characteristics and for constructing a new descriptor vector by combining the Bidimensional High Resolution Spectral Analysis 2-D ESPRIT (Estimation of Signal Parameters via Rotationnal Invariance Techniques) method and Gabor filter. To evaluate the performance, we have tested our approach on Brodatz image database. The results show that the representation of the digital image content appears significant in research of imaging information.

Abstract

For transportation aircraft, the primary control objective for an autopilot system engaged during approach and landing is relative to the flight path tracking on the basis of highly simplified linear models of flight dynamics. The dynamics governing the flight path of an aircraft are in general highly nonlinear and involve complex physics for which no accurate models are available. In this paper a nonlinear model describing the longitudinal equations of motion in strick feedback form is derived. Backstepping is utilized for the construction of a globally stabilizing controller with a number of free parameters. It is implemented a controller with an internal loop controls involving the pitch rate of the aircraft and an external loop which includes angle of attack, path angle and pitch angle. Finally, nonlinear simulation results for a longitudinal model of a transportation aircraft are displayed and discussed.

Abstract

Photovoltaic energy is one of the fastest growing renewable energy sources in the worldand as the issue of energy security is becoming more and more important it could be a promising option. But as photovoltaic energy is becoming widespread and penetration level of photovoltaic power plants increase, issues rise in distribution networks. In this paper a power control scheme for a high penetration photovoltaic power plant in a radial distribution network will be presented. This control scheme includes an efficient Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT), DC link voltage control by managing power balance between the hysteresis controlled inverter and a boost converter. Another aspect of High Penetration PV (HPPV) which is overvoltage in Point of Common Coupling (PCC) is also investigated and maximum allowable Penetration Level (PL) will be determined. Simulations have been done in Matlab/Simulink environment.

Abstract

As the day by day changes in the technology, technical requirements and techniques of the industry changes simultaneously. Therefore the requirements to educate our students not only the conceptual as well as new approaches based on the latest techniques. Involvement of software in teaching is not only providing a better support, more clear and visual operation of complex circuits and waveforms of the faculty of power electronics in classroom teaching as well as to the student to understand a better concept. The software packages available for simulation of power electronic circuits are MATLAB, PSPICE and PSIM and many more. In this paper author takes an example of an AC voltage controller to explain the software based teaching approach. Author used two software based simulation tool to explain the AC Voltage Controller and compare the software based approach with the blackboard & PPT Presentation based technique. This paper is helpful for the faculty of electrical engineering to find the applications of MATLAB/SIMULINK and PSIM in teaching.

Abstract

In low light environment, the surveillance video image has lower contrast, less information and uneven brightness. To solve this problem, this paper puts forward a contrast resolution compensation algorithm based on human visual perception model. It extracts Y component from the YUV video image acquired by camera originally to subtract contrast feature parameters, then makes a proportional integral type contrast resolution compensation for low light pixels in Y component and makes index contrast resolution compensation for high light pixels adaptively to enhance brightness of the video image while maintains the U and V components. Then it compresses the video images and transmits them via internet. Finally, it decodes and displays the video image on the device of intelligent surveillance system. The experimental results show that, the algorithm can effectively improve the contrast resolution of the video image and maintain the color of video image well. It also can meet the real-time requirement of video monitoring.

Abstract

This paper presents proposed SMART (Systematic Monitoring of Arterial Road Traffic Signals) traffic control signal in Brunei Darussalam. Traffic congestion due to stops and delays at traffic light signals has much been complained about in Brunei Darussalam as well as across the world during the recent years. There are primarily two types of traffic signal controls in Brunei Darussalam. The most common one is the fixed or pre-timed signal operation traffic light and the other one is the actuated signal operation traffic light. Although the actuated signal control is more efficient than the fixed or pre-fixed signal control in the sense that it provides fewer stops and delays to traffic on the major arteries, the best option for Brunei Darussalam would be to introduce smart traffic control signal. This type of traffic signal uses artificial intelligence to take the appropriate action by adjusting the times in real time to minimise the delay in the intersection while also coordinating with intersections in the neighbourhood. SMART Signal simultaneously collects event-based high-resolution traffic data from multiple intersections and generates real-time signal performance measures, including arterial travel time, number of stops, queue length, intersection delay, and level of service. In Brunei Darussalam, where we have numerous intersections where several arterial roads are linked to one another, The SMART signal traffic control method should be implemented.
