Abstract

Strong demand and strong price of raw foodstuffs like beef was commonly used in conventional markets by beef dealers to commit fraud in order to gain larger income. The fraud has been in the form of combining beef and pork. In Indonesia, this has been a issue of food health in recent years. Via scent, some food safety concerns can be expected. By using electronic nose that is equipped with electrochemical and air sensors  such as temperature sensors, strain, and humidity to find the pure beef or mixed beef. According to its selectivity, the sensor can detect gas to make small icurrents that are the result of chemical sensor and gas interactions with oxygen .In this study, the classification method k-NN, SVM, Naïve Bayes, and random forest was used in 5 different meat variations with a ratio of 0%, 10%, 50%, 90% and 100% with temperatures of -22°C, room temperature, and 55°C. The results showed the effect of temperature on increasing the accuracy, which is at a temperature of -22°C. The lower the temperature, the more stable the value obtained by electronic nose. At a temperature of -22°C, the method that produces the highest accuracy is the Random Forest method.

Abstract

In this paper, a complete design and implementation of an automatic multi-axis solar tracking system has been introduced. The main purpose of this system is to track sun location and gain the maximum energy output of the solar panels. The system is Multi-axis using microcontroller and photocells to control the direction of the penal, whereas the penal is facing the sun at all times of the day. The system is a combination of hardware and software parts that work concurrently to achieve a precise angular Sun tracking. A base, penal frame, super jack motors, high-efficiency solar panel, arduino uno microcontroller, relays, rechargeable battery, light dependent resistor (LDR) have been used for the system’s hardware part. These hardware parts need a high-level programming code, as a software part, to be embedded in the microcontroller to get an effective and precise solar tracking system. The results of the presented system were compared to a fixed direction system. The results show significant efficiency improvement of 24% over the static one. For a city like Ramadi, which has a high irradiance all over the year, it is very fruitful to use such tracking systems along with photovoltaic installation systems.

Abstract

Female gamers are growing rapidly worldwide especially in young age groups and in mobile platform. Since that population change appears in recent 10 years, formerly male-oriented gaming community has confronted gender issues. In this paper, we witness that a strong gender stereotype exists for both genders in Korea by two surveys. In the first survey, subjects show that they have different expectations of opposite gender’s favorable game style where both genders have exactly same favorite styles. In the second survey, we investigate how members of hostile sexism community groups choose teammates in Overwatch game if they have privilege to select teammates for specific roles. Ilbe and Womad as two far extreme misogyny and misandry groups show hostile sexism in teammate selection. The result implies that hostile sexism and gender stereotype shown in game playing may be induced from other social factors than the amount of the game playing experiences.

Abstract

The problem of forecasting mortality has been widely discussed and is being considered as an important issue among actuaries and demographers. Using age and sex-specific mortality data in Malaysia, we compare and evaluate the point forecast accuracy of six principal component methods.  These six methods are the lee-carter (LC) method, the unadjusted LC method (LCnone), the lee-miller (LM) variant, the booth-mandonald-smith variant (BMS) and the two versions of the hyndman-ullah (HU). The overall performance of all methods was evaluated using out-sample forecasts based on the six error measures of three different data spanning with three different step-ahead forecasts. The data set consists of annual age-specific death rates (ASDR) for 17 age groups for both genders for the years 1980 to 2011.  Results show that when the fitted period is longer, the LM method exhibits a better fit in Malaysia male ASDR and the HU6 method attains a better fit in Malaysia female ASDR. When the fitted period becomes shorter, the BMS method outperforms for male and HU1 for female ASDR. However, for overall performance, the LM method consistently outperforms others for Malaysia male ASDR and the LM and HU methods are the best good of fit for Malaysia ASDR.

Abstract

Malaysia is one of the countries with the highest lightning strikes incidence in the world. Yet, Malaysians are still taking a proper lightning protection indifferent manner. This might be due to lack of knowledge on lightning characteristics in Malaysia. Therefore, this study presents an unusual lightning phenomenon with multiple grounding points that might cause a disastrous event, called fork lightning. Between November and December 2018, there were three different patterns of fork lightning mechanism successfully recorded by using high speed camera with 2800 frame per second. Temporal analysis of the lightning progress had been done on the samples based only on the camera records which then played back by using Wondershare Filmora video editor. These three samples of fork lightning images were acquired among 37 lightning events recorded in this study. The first sample of fork lightning fully established the forked branch 0.35 ms before the return stroke occurred. On the contrary, second fork lightning established its forked branch 0.35 ms after the return stroke. Both forked branches for third sample simultaneously fully established with the return stroke event. Obviously, these events had striking the ground in up to ten milliseconds of time duration. Thus, there is always a possibility that they might cause serious damage and should not be neglected in designing a lightning protection system.

Abstract

The financial market currently offers derivative products whose characteristics allow investors to reduce the negative impact of natural market fluctuations on the value of their assets. Hedging with financial options is one of the possible strategies that an investor can implement in order to reduce the exposure or risk of their investments. This paper aims to assess the real impact of financial options as a hedging instrument on an investment portfolio made up of variable income assets of the Colombian market. The results show that for options with an upward trend, call options allow future losses to be hedged; on the other hand, for bearish trends, coverage is made with put options.

Abstract

Fuzzy time series models have been widely used to handle forecasting problems, such as forecasting consumer demand and production volume. It is of greater benefits if we have good forecasting accuracy rates especially in managing inventory in a Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) company.  This study focuses on multiple products with single production line.  The aims of this study are to propose the appropriate the forecasting method for the products, to develop new inventory policy that minimizes the total inventory cost for the company.  Simple forecasting methods like trend line, three month moving average (MA (3) and fuzzy time series forecasting are used in this study.  The result shows that fuzzy time series forecasting model is suitable to be used in forecasting future demand for all products.  The proposed inventory policy is based on the number of cycle per year and the number of production for each product has helped the company to minimize total inventory cost and schedule the production process accordingly.  The proposed inventory policy resulted in lower total inventory cost when compared to current practice.

Abstract

Differential evolution (DE) is a highly effective evolutionary algorithm. However, the performance of DE depends on strategies and control parameters. The combination of many strategies helps balance the exploitation and exploration of DE. In this study, a multi-population based on k-means clustering is proposed to realize an ensemble of multiple strategies, thereby resulting in a new DE variant, namely KSDE, where similar individuals in the population implement the same mutation strategies, and dissimilar subpopulations migrate information through the soft island model (SIM). Firstly, the population is virtually divided into k subpopulations by the k-means clustering algorithm. Secondly, the individual specific mutation scheme is selected from a strategy pool by random method. Finally, the migration of subpopulation information is done using soft island model. The performance of the KSDE algorithm is evaluated on 13 benchmark problems. The experiments show that KSDE algorithm improves the performance of the DE algorithm.

Abstract

The number of patients in hospital keep increasing every year and, some patients’s blood pressure must be measured by medical staff regularly. This means that the medical staff need to attend to the patient routinely and several readings are required in each session to make sure the results are accurate. Therefore, there is a need to simplify the monitoring process inside hospital in Malaysia. In this work, IoT blood pressure monitoring system (IBPMS) is designed to monitor patient’s blood pressure remotely. This project use Raspberry Pi as a gateway to view the value of blood pressure online. Result showed that the design is capable to transfer data from blood pressure detector through the network using USB TTL serial cable which is directly attached to the Raspberry Pi. User can also view the blood pressure reading continuously from Telegram application and email service. Furthermore, the system can measure the value of blood pressure accurately when user is in sitting position.

Abstract

The recent advances in electronics and microelectronics devices allow the development of newly low-cost monitoring tools used by peoples for health preventive purposes. Sensors used in medical equipments convert various forms of human body vital signs into electrical signals. Therefore, the healthcare monitoring systems considering non-invasive and wearable sensors with integrated communication mediums allow an efficient solution to live a comfortable home life.  This paper presents the remote monitoring of human body temperature (HBT) wirelessly by means of Arduino controller with different sensors and open source internet connection. The proposed monitoring system uses an internet network via wireless fieldity (wifi) connection to be linked with online portal on smart phone or computer. The proposed system is comprised of an Arduino controller, LM-35 (S1), MLX-90614 (S2) temperature sensors and ESP-wifi shield module. The obtained result has shown that real time temperature monitoring data can be transferred to authentic observer by utilizing internet of things (IoT) applications. The findings from this research indicates that the difference of average temperature in between Sensor S1 and S2 is about 15 0C
