Abstract

A mobile Ad hoc and sensor wireless network commonly includes various mobile devices and sensors with limited resources. In such network, energy constraint and link stability are the most critical parameters to take into consideration when deploying routing mechanisms, to assure reliable communication between nodes. These requirements are due to the network scalability and the absence of a fixed infrastructure, which may cause a rapid depletion of the nodes batteries and leads onto network link breakages. LE-OLSR (lifetime enhancement optimized link state protocol) is a variant of the existing OLSR. This latter is widely used as routing protocol for mobile ad-hoc and wireless sensor networks. LE-OLSR implements a new load balancing algorithm; it takes into account energy constraints of a node when selecting routers, responsible for forwarding data packets over the entire network. The aim of our work is to study and simulate the LE-OLSR protocol behavior in realistic mobile environments, including scenarios with various residual energy constraints schemes. The performed simulations had shown that LE-OLSR performances decrease compared to the case of ideal mobile network. Nevertheless, LE-OLSR had shown persistence and fair results in the realistic environment. The obtained results show that LE-OLSR protocol is an adequate and a prime solution for dense mobile ad hoc networks.

Abstract

High voltage assets play a vital role in providing uninterrupted power to the consumers and any slight problems experienced by the assets may cause losses in millions of dollars to businesses. Therefore it is of utmost importance to monitor the health of high voltage assets. This research presents the development process of a partial discharge (PD) device that is able to detect PD acoustic waves for monitoring high voltage assets purposes. Medium voltage cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) cable was used which was introduced with spherical void defects at the joints of the cable that functioned to produce PD acoustic waves. Outcome of the development processes provides the finished design of the PD sensing device, known as partial discharge detection (PDD) device. The functionality of the PDD device was also assessed through controlled experimentations, and they proved to be successful. Pure PD waveform captured by the ultrasonic sensor was similar when compared to a HFCT sensor’s pure PD waveform. The PDD device is a small and affordable, and is opened to various improvements such as integrating artificial intelligence (AI) unto the device, and one day may replace most existing bulky and expensive PD sensing devices that are readily available in the market.

Abstract

The recommendation system is an intelligent system gives recommendations to users to discover the best interesting items. The purpose of this proposed recommendation system is to develop a system to find the best electrical devices according to weather conditions and user preferences. The proposed solution relies on the characteristics of electrical appliances and their suitability to weather conditions in any city. The proposed solution is the first recommendation system combines devices properties, weather conditions, and user preferences using a new combination of algorithms. The clustering algorithms are the most applicable in the field of recommendation system. The proposed solution relies on a combination of Elbow method, proposed modified K-means and Silhouette algorithm to find the best number of clusters before starting the clustering process. Then calculate the weights for each cluster and compare them with the weather weights to find the required clusters sorted from the near to far according to a computed threshold. The empirical results showed that the proposed solution demonstrated a 94% accuracy to match the characteristics of the recommended devices with the climatic characteristics of the region and user preferences. The accuracy is measured using Silhouette algorithm.

Abstract

Predicting an event can comes as a huge advantage for a lot of people, especially if it involves profits that a company can make. In this paper, matters that were discussed were the algorithms used for the event prediction systems, the type of algorithms and the comparison between different types of algorithm. Two main categories that were compared was the single algorithm for the prediction model and hybrid algorithms which is a combination of two or more algorithms in the model. Hybrid algorithm shows signs of better efficiency when data used were complex and large but a smaller dataset is more suitable with a single algorithm as the base as it is easier to apply with satisfactory results.

Abstract

Educational data mining has gained tremendous interest from researchers across the globe. Using data mining techniques in the field of education several significant findings have been made. Accurate academic performance estimation has been a challenging task due to the variety of students’ attributes involved. In this study we have developed a novel framework to estimate the academic performance of students. Our proposed model outperformed existing models of students’ academic performance determination and gives a new direction to academic performance estimation. The proposed model can help not only to reduce the number of academic failures but also help to comprehend the factors contributing to a students’ academic performance (poor, average or outstanding). Some of the techniques used were conversion of categorical attributes into dummy variables, instance segregation, classification using an optimised and improved differential evolutionary algorithm.

Abstract

This article presents the development of a lighting control network to reduce the energy consumption of a commercial building, using the KNX protocol; because of the high rates of electricity consumption, the same that are reflected in the payment of the electricity supply. For this, the design of the network architecture is carried out, the tree type quality and it has KNX, DALI components and LED luminaires, which are interconnected by means of an Ethernet type BUS; The KNX protocol configuration is then performed using the ETS version 5 software; carries out the implementation of KNX technology, determines the reduction of energy consumption by 82.33%. Likewise, emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2), one of the main gases involved in climate change, were reduced by 85%. With these results we obtain economic and environmental benefits; Reason why it is proposed to perform the same procedure for the control of air conditioning systems, since their operation represents 32.8% of the energy consumption of an establishment.

Abstract

Existing document analysis systems list words in the document using a morpheme analyzer. Such a structural feature is difficult to help users to understand the document. To understand a document, you need to analyze the keyword in the document and extract the paragraphs including the keyword. The proposed system retrieves keywords from documents written in XML format, extracts them, and displays them to the user. In addition, it extracts the paragraphs including the keyword entered by the user and maintains paragraph sequence and delete for duplicate paragraphs. Then, the frequency and weight of the keyword are calculated, and the number of paragraphs is reduced by removing the paragraphs including the keyword having a weight less than other keywords weighed. This method may reduce the time and effort required for the user to understand the document as compared to the existing document analysis systems.

Abstract

This work suggests several multi-step three-term conjugate gradient (CG)-algorithms that satisfies their sufficient descent property and conjugacy conditions. First, we have  considered a number of well-known three-term CG-method, and we have, therefore, suggested two new classes of this type of algorithms which was based on hestenes and stiefel (HS) and polak-ribière (PR) formulas with four different versions. Both descent and conjugacy conditions for all the proposed algorithms are satisfied, at each iteration by using the strong Wolfe line search condition and it's accelerated version. These new suggested algorithms are some sort of modifications to the original  HS and PR  methods. These CG-algorithms are considered as a sort of the  memoryless BFGS update.  All of our new suggested methods are proved to be a  global convergent and numerically, more efficient than the similar methods in same area based on our selected set of used numerical problems.
