Abstract

A Botnet is one of many attacks that can execute malicious tasks and develop continuously. Therefore, current research introduces a comparison framework, called BotDetectorFW, with classification and complexity improvements for the detection of Botnet attack using CICIDS2017 dataset. It is a free online dataset consist of several attacks with high-dimensions features. The process of feature selection is a significant step to obtain the least features by eliminating irrelated features and consequently reduces the detection time. This process implemented inside BotDetectorFW using two steps; data clustering and five distance measure formulas (cosine, dice, driver & kroeber, overlap, and pearson correlation) using C#, followed by selecting the best N features used as input into four classifier algorithms evaluated using machine learning (WEKA); multilayerperceptron, JRip, IBK, and random forest. In BotDetectorFW, the thoughtful and diligent cleaning of the dataset within the preprocessing stage beside the normalization, binary clustering of its features, followed by the adapting of feature selection based on suitable feature distance techniques, and finalized by testing of selected classification algorithms. All together contributed in satisfying the high-performance metrics using fewer features number (8 features as a minimum) compared to and outperforms other methods found in the literature that adopted (10 features or higher) using the same dataset. Furthermore, the results and performance evaluation of BotDetectorFM shows a competitive impact in terms of classification accuracy (ACC), precision (Pr), recall (Rc), and f-measure (F1) metrics.

Abstract

This study shows hybrid continuous-phase frequency shift keying (CPFSK)/optical quadrature-phase shift keying (OQPSK) modulation transmission techniques’ performance efficiency with return-to-zero (RZ) line coding scheme–based fiber systems in passive optical networks. Max. Q factor/min. bit error rate variations versus modulation frequency and fiber length are studied in detail for various bits/symbol, based on hybrid proposed modulation transmission techniques. Also, optical power and received electrical power variations are simulated with fiber-length variations at a specified modulation frequency of 300 GHz. Max. Q Factor, min. BER, max. signal power, and min. noise power variations are based on hybrid modulation techniques for CPFSK/OQPSK of 32 bits/symbol and a modulation frequency of 500 GHz through a fiber length of 30 km.

Abstract

Hand gesture recognition becomes a popular topic of deep learning and provides many application fields for bridging the human–computer barrier and has a positive impact on our daily life. The primary idea of our project is a static gesture acquisition from depth camera and to process the input images to train the deep convolutional neural network pre-trained on ImageNet dataset. Proposed system consists of gesture capture device (Intel® RealSense™ depth camera D435), pre-processing and image segmentation algorithms, feature extraction algorithm and object classification. For pre-processing and image segmentation algorithms computer vision methods from the OpenCV and Intel Real Sense libraries are used. The subsystem for features extracting and gestures classification is based on the modified VGG-16 by using the TensorFlow&Keras deep learning framework. Performance of the static gestures recognition system is evaluated using maching learning metrics. Experimental results show that the proposed model, trained on a database of 2000 images, provides high recognition accuracy both at the training and testing stages.

Abstract

In this paper evaluate six exchange rate hedging strategies with financial options from the OTC market in Colombia. Three hedging strategies for importers and three for exporters were raised. The coverage for importers was carried out with the traditional strategy of long call, bull call spread and bull put spread, the last two correspond to options portfolios. the coverage for importers was carried out with the traditional strategy of long put, bear call spread and bear put spread, the last two correspond to options portfolios. to determine the best hedging strategy, the currency price was modeled with a Wiener process and the VaR for the six covered scenarios was calculated and compared with the VaR of the uncovered scenario. The results shown by the six hedging strategies manage to mitigate the exchange risk, but the most efficient strategies are the traditional ones for both importers and exporters.

Abstract

Information security and confidentiality are the prime concern of any type of communication. Rapidly evolution of technology recently, leads to increase the intruder’s ability and a main challenge to information security. Therefore, utilizing the non-traditional basics for information security is required, such as DNA which is focused as a new aspect to achieve better security. In this paper, a survey of more recent DNA based on data hiding algorithms are covered. With particular emphasis of different parameters several data hiding algorithms based on DNA has been reviewed. To present a more secure an efficient data hiding algorithms based on DNA for future works, this willbe helpful.

Abstract

Recently, communication via the wireless systems become promising, since the wireless communication system provides several benefits such as the disposal of the wire usage, provides long-distances communication, and the disposal of periodic maintenance of data transmission lines. In robotic science, the wireless system unit is the main part of the mobile robot. Whereas, only wireless communication module responsible for transmitting commands from the transmitter (e.g. mobile or PC) to the receiver (i.e. robot brain) and vice versa. With the increase in population growth and the construction of the urban, fires have become widely spread. It is worth mentioning here that the lives of firefighters are in permanent danger where they may be exposed to the combustion or inhalation of toxic gasses associated with the combustion process. Therefore, become necessary to find effective ways to reduce these risks. In this paper, a rover tank robot is implemented for fire extinguishing in closed areas based on the Arduino microcontroller, flame sensor, and motion sensor. The robot has a small water pump installed on a servo motor to pump water, the first flame sensor placed on the right of the robot's front and the second to the left of the robot's front. When a fire is explored through a flame sensor, the water pump sprays water to the location of the fire. The robot is driven wirelessly utilising the Bluetooth HC-06 module and the Wi-Fi camera utilised for driving purposes. Besides, a passive infrared (PIR) sensor is used to detect the presence of any living organism inside the fire site to alert the robot driver that an organism requires a rescue.

Abstract

This study develops an analytical method with numerical results for the design of optical slab waveguides for optical communication system applications. An optical slab waveguide structure made of silicon on silicon dioxide material is designed and analyzed. The effective index of the mode is studied against variations in the waveguide dimensions. Transmission and reflection coefficients are studied and compared to the wavelength and dimensions of the waveguide. Variations are sketched with the x-axis, in addition to the electric field intensity distribution and effective refractive index. Waveguide bending loss is also studied with waveguide thickness and length variations within three waveguide transmission windows of 850 nm, 1300 nm, and 1550 nm.

Abstract

Due to the need for the multicast connection required by multimedia applications such as video conferencing and natural disaster management, it was necessary to use a set of portable and connected wireless peripheral devices without the need for infrastructure and without a central router, by use wireless network as "a mobile ad hoc network (MANET) " Despite the difficulties facing this technology in the process of effective guidance and the expansion of the use of such networks, in this type of network because of its applications in the fields of civil and military systems that do not need an infrastructure for the network to provide communication, the researchers specialized in this field have improved the current routing protocols and design new protocols that are appropriate to the challenges that Routing protocols face due to continuous change In network topology over time. Abstract

Direct-current (DC) motor is a commonly used motor; its speed is directly affected by applying mechanical load. This paper proposes the design of wide speed-load range controller for a direct-current (DC) shunt motor based on proportional–integral–derivative (PID controller) with genetic system for controller parameters adjusting. The genetic based PID controller is simulated by using Matlab software package and tested with different sudden load values and different working speeds. A present control loop contains the suggested PID controller also Pulse-Width-Modulation PWM generator and H-bridge inverter. With the genetic system enhancement to parameters of developed PID controller, the results demonstration that this controller has great impact to preserve the profiles of the motor speed and produced torque after applied sudden load, and its intensification the motor performance at different speed and load conditions.

Abstract

The Development-to-Operations model, known as DevOps, refers to a framework that integrates the development and operation phases of organizational applications. DevOps bridges the gap between these two processes that traditionally prolonged the implementation of these applications. This framework aims at enhancing service delivery and releasing subsequent updates based on real-time customer feedback. Consumers in this modern era prefer tailor-made services, and a slight downtime from one supplier can quickly shift their preference to the company’s competitors. However, DevOps involves sophisticated coding activities, and there is a need for someone to oversee these processes to ensure developers are not overwhelmed. The objective of this survey is to clarify the significance of a lead person to monitor the DevOps pipeline and report any failure detected in each development stage. The study utilized meta-analysis of verified tertiary resources from other researchers that took a deep dive into the DevOps model and how it works towards organizational goals in various firms. All institutions involved in multiple business platforms should take advantage of new technologies to scale up their service delivery and net profit. If adopted and appropriately monitored, DevOps can revolutionize the capabilities of most business applications by minimizing downtimes and providing uninterrupted services.
