Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic is increasingly gaining popularity when discussing e-learning in the context of institutional and organizational learning because of its numerous benefits which make it possible for learners to learn regardless of the circumstances and/or the timing. Therefore, the expanding dominion of online learning has caused problem in terms of determining adequate learning activities for the learner in this context, and it relatively becomes a widely used learning technique for learners. Several studies in online learning focused mainly on increasing student achievements based on recommendation systems. An ideal recommender system in e-learning environment should be built with both accurate and pedagogical goals. To address this challenge, we propose a recommendation method based on learner preferences and knowledge level using machine learning technique. The learning approach is designed based on this technology to build a personalized e-learning scenario by selecting the most adequate learning activities for the learner. Moreover, several experiences were conducted in the real environment to evaluate our system. The results show the quality of learning and the learner's satisfaction.

Abstract

Agriculture is the largest workforce of India and biggest contributor to the Indian economy. Improving agricultural practices with the help of modern computer science technologies have great scope. Helping the farmers to know about their soil fertility, crops which can be grown and fertilizers or nutrients required for their land will be valuable inputs for them. Too much or too little fertilizers may harm the soil, so right amount of fertilization is also important. In this paper we have discussed about the bootstrap aggregation regression method, which is an ensemble machine learning technique to recommend the optimum level of nutrients and fertilizers. Hence customized nutrients recommendation reports could be generated to suggest the fertilizers and nutrients with their adequate quantities. This will be really beneficial for farmers to maintain the soil health and helpful for better crop growth and yield. We consider the features and levels of soil parameters such as nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium (NPK), pH level, organic carbon, electric conductivity, humidity, rainfall and other micro nutrients for predicting the right amount of fertilizers and nutrients. We have also checked other regression methods to compare the results based on the previous work done in the same field.

Abstract

This study focuses on the developed web-based information system which allows local government unit (LGU) in Samar Island and other agricultural sectors to have access to updated farmers’ information and the soil nutrient, soil fertility status, and the crop suitability of soil in the different municipalities of Samar. Geo-referenced agricultural map and management system can be an important tool for both operational and policy levels by accelerating the supply of up-to-date data, supporting the implementation of different types of projects targeting objectives such as municipal development, regional economic development, agricultural development, sustainable resource management, good governance, and many others. The management information system was developed using MySQL. The server-side language used in this study was PHP and the client-side language used was hypertext markup language (HTML). The map was created using Mapbox GL JS, then, geo-referenced map layers are saved to the local server as an array map for direct access via the front-end web application. With the use of the system, LGU in Samar Island and other agricultural sectors can implement project more efficiently because farmers’ information and the nutrient capacity of the soil is readily available.

Abstract

Hepatitis is an infection that causes inflammation of liver tissue. Many studies have developed machine learning models for hepatitis disease diagnosis. However, there has been little discussion about the relationship between hepatitis symptoms. The first objective of this study is to provide a brief description of a real-world hepatitis disease symptom dataset. Furthermore, the authors proposed a stand-alone classification platform using random forest, decision tree, and support vector machine into healthy people or hepatitis patients using adaptive wrapper feature selection. It was discovered that there is a strong link between certain characteristics and hepatitis diagnosis. The work presented here may help improve hepatitis diagnosis in the early stages, which may lead to a reduction in the acute effects of hepatitis on human life. It is worth noting that random forest (RF) gave the highest accuracy and stayed slightly consistent through all sets of features in comparison to decision tree (DT) and support vector machines (SVM).

Abstract

A wireless gigabit alliance (WiGig) is widely known for higher bandwidth which operates at 60GHz unlicensed spectrum for super-fast data speed over short distances for millimeter-wave band application. This study offers an efficient, compact microstrip patch antenna for WiGig with a lesser return loss -50.45 dB (60 GHz). The gain and directivity of the proposed antenna are 13.01 dB and 13.42 dBi. It provides higher efficiency of around 91%. The proposed antenna also covers another mm-wave band that is at 95 GHz. The U.S. military uses electromagnetic radiation of 95 GHz as a non-lethal weapon. So, the anticipated antenna can be used for a miniaturized active denial system. The proposed antenna has a good gain, directivity, and efficiency for the multigigabits/s data rate. The aforesaid properties imply that it can be used for wireless personal area networks (WPAN) and wireless local area network (WLAN) and fifth-generation (5G) applications too.

Abstract

Renewable energy plays a crucial role in the modern life. It has several forms, such as wind, hydroelectric, and solar energy. The latter is the most popular energy sources in wide areas. In order to maximize the generated energy from solar panels, these panels should be placed and remain in a vertical position with the sun rays. Therefore, a novel system is proposed in this paper to track the sun rays through designing and implementing a solar tracking system with hybrid controller type (controllino), which a hybrid controller that combines the programmable logic controller (PLC) and microcontroller. This leads us to mix the advantages of PLC and microcontroller thus, get fast and flexible control with several input and output which makes the cost is very low and the software is free and unprotected from the production companies. The system that has been built is controlled by self-controller which has the ability to track the position of the sun and control on the movement of the solar panel in order to keep the direction of the solar panels perpendicular to the sun. As a result, the efficiency will increase without the need to identify the geographical location where the solar panels are located and reduce the cost of generating energy by requiring a minimum number of solar panels.

Abstract

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) has become an imperative tool to address challenges and achieve sustainable growth. Realizing its impact to the society, companies are demanded to participate in sustainable development of which poverty eradication is one of it. The CSR practice, to date, is not strategically planned and executed especially when it comes into philanthropic corporate social responsibility (PCSR). This could be due to failure to identify categories of PCSR activities, limiting its effectiveness to achieve the intended outcomes. Thus, document clustering is proposed to be used to automate the pattern identification process. This study has extended document clustering by integrating the traditional document clustering application with topic modeling approach. This integrated approach enables the identification of the PCSR pattern. The analysis involved a three-year data from the annual report of the 25 CSR-award winning companies in Malaysia which involved several steps. Findings from this study revealed seven clusters that represented seven types of PCSR activities performed by the CSR-award winning companies in Malaysia. The findings offer an insight to be considered by companies in strategizing the CSR activities, particularly philanthropic responsibility in ensuring optimum impact to innovatively support the society and contribute towards poverty mitigation.

Abstract

Recently different capacity boosting technologies, including 3D beamforming and expanding operating bandwidth have been investigated and included in the enhanced fourth generation (4G) and fifth-generation standards. For mobile operators to enhance their network performance, applying these advanced technologies is vital. To achieve that, planning and optimization work need to consider the spatiotemporal distribution of users. Although the capacity impact of advanced antenna technologies is investigated well, deployment options to exploit their benefits in a cost-effective manner considering a realistic network environment are seldom reported. This work presents a data driven and multi-objective based optimal vertical beams placement for an enhanced 4G mobile network with the newly introduced C-band. The method is utilized for an area located in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, taking into account the existing 4G mobile network as a reference configuration. Users are distributed based on the data collected by ethio-telecom network management system. Findings indicate that optimal vertical beams placement achieved for gradual deployment with consideration cell edge and aggregate throughput performances while reducing network cost. While being cost-effective, up to 69.2% and 73.8% cell edge performance gain is achieved at 20 and 30 pareto points relative to an existing macro mobile network.

Abstract

Moving objects detection is a vital field of study in various applications. Many of such applications may have to capture and process a lot of data, then such these data need to be reduced as much as possible in order to have a reasonable and suitable system for achieving the desired aims efficiently. The proposed algorithm utilizes singular value decomposition (SVD) and Bayer pattern filter for their good properties in producing very representative reduced data. This data is then handled by frame difference objects detection, which in turn is an approach that doesn’t need to handle much data. The camera shaking which can be caused by a windy weather in the case of the outdoor static camera may introduce a frame difference with imprecise moving objects detection, hence frames compensation is conducted utilizing a transformation based on speed up robust feature transform (SURF) detected key points.
