Abstract

The use of unbalanced electrical loads in power systems can significantly impact the lifespan of electrical equipment. Load imbalance often occurs in power distribution systems serving various types of consumers with diverse consumption patterns. This study aims to analyze the effect of unbalanced load usage on the lifespan of electrical equipment, such as transformers, cables, and protection devices. The methodology involves measuring electrical parameters such as current, voltage, and power factor under balanced and unbalanced load conditions. Operational data are processed to determine the level of imbalance and its effects on temperature rise, power losses, and equipment efficiency degradation. The analysis is complemented with simulation models to predict equipment lifespan reduction based on thermal and electrical standards. The results indicate that load imbalance leads to a significant increase in operating temperatures, particularly in transformers and cables, accelerating insulation degradation. Additionally, load imbalance increases power losses, reducing overall system efficiency. This study concludes that better load management to achieve balance can extend the lifespan of electrical equipment and improve the reliability of power systems.

Abstract

This study examines the efficiency of electric power in BLDC motors as electric motorcycle drivers with various load and speed experiments. Electric motorcycles are one of the vehicles that are in great demand by the public. BLDC motors are the main drivers of electric motorcycles where motor capacity planning includes motor power and torque which greatly affect the acceleration and speed of the motorcycle. Motor capacity planning is obtained by calculating the total weight, the location of the motor's center of gravity, the desired acceleration, tire rolling resistance to asphalt, air resistance and road slope angle. From the calculations and analyses that have been carried out, the required motor power is 2.5 kW. Testing the motor's ability to carry loads is carried out by providing variations in passenger and goods loads of 58 kg, 98 kg and 135 kg, and driven with a target speed of 10 km / h, 20 km / h and 30 km / h.

Abstract

Community service program that focuses on improving the welfare and economy of the community, Lumban Suhi-Suhi Village, Pangururan District, Samosir regency. This program was implemented from may 2024 and ended in December 2024. Using the fo-cus group discussion (FGD) method with homestay owners to provide training for own-ers/family clans on managing the Batak Toba traditional house homestay in improving the community's economy and maintaining cultural heritage products by maintaining the uniqueness of traditional architecture and ethno design of the Batak Toba house. The re-search methods include field studies, in-depth interviews with local indigenous commu-nities, and a literature review of Toba traditional architecture. This approach explores cul-tural elements applicable to homestay designs, such as building structures, traditional ornaments, and spatial layouts that reflect the lifestyle of the Batak Toba community. The Batak Toba traditional house has a high cultural value, especially in terms of aesthetics and as a cultural heritage product that really needs to be maintained. The Batak tradi-tional house that is still being empowered must continue to be preserved to maintain the culture it has. One of the most effective ways to empower the Batak Toba traditional house into a homestay. So that the development of this kinship-based homestay willpro-vide welfare for the family and clan owners.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technology has driven government institutions to adopt efficient and transparent reporting systems. This study focuses on the development of a website for reporting internship participants' activities at the Medan City Communication and Information Service. The objective is to create a digital platform that facilitates real-time activity reporting, improves data accuracy, and enhances communication between interns and supervisors. The website is developed using a structured system development life cycle (SDLC) approach, incorporating user-friendly features such as activity logs, progress tracking, and automated report generation. The findings indicate that the implementation of this website significantly streamlines the reporting process, reduces administrative workload, and ensures better monitoring of internship activities. This research concludes that a web-based reporting system provides an effective solution for managing internship programs, improving efficiency, and supporting digital transformation in government institutions. The study offers insights for further advancements in digital reporting systems to enhance operational effectiveness in public sector organizations.

Abstract

Internet of Thingsis one of the latest technologies in real-time data management, especially for temperature and humidity monitoring. This study develops a prototype of an ESP32-based IoT system that is integrated with the ThingSpeak platform for temperature and humidity monitoring. The system uses a DHT22 sensor for data collection, while the ESP32 acts as the main controller that sends data to ThingSpeak via a Wi-Fi connection, and displays data on an OLED Display. Tests were conducted in regular and air-conditioned rooms, showing significant differences in humidity. Air-conditioned rooms show humidity within normal limits (45-65%), while regular rooms reach 70%. The data sent to ThingSpeak is visualized in a graph with details of the data sending time, based on the results of this study it is proven that the designed system can display temperature and humidity data in real-time on ThingSpeak, and has the potential to be applied on a wider scale.

Abstract

High interest in developing oil palm plantations increases land value and relaxes land suitability criteria. Flat topography, specifically peatlands, has been targeted as potential new areas for development since the 1990s. Peatlands are acidic, so improving soil pH with lime, specifically CaCO3, is crucial for oil palm seedling growth. Mycorrhiza presents an effective alternative for nutrient absorption. The study found that mycorrhiza and CaCO3 did not significantly affect plant height and stem girth in oil palms. Lime application especially increased soil pH, with the best treatment being 400 gr of CaCO3 per polybag. Meanwhile, mycorrhiza significantly infected oil palm roots, with the best treatment being 40 gr per polybag. The combination of mycorrhiza and lime did not significantly affect plant growth parameters, but the best treatment was 40 gr of mycorrhiza and 400 gr of lime per polybag.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of overload and load imbalance on the service life of transformers in 20 kV distribution substations. Distribution transformers function vitally in the power distribution system, but often face problems such as overload and load imbalance that can affect their performance. The research method used is a quantitative approach with field measurements, focusing on evaluating transformer loading conditions. The measurement results show that the transformer operates at an overload with a loading percentage reaching 109.8%, and a load imbalance of 19.16%. These findings indicate that these conditions can cause an increase in operating temperature, damage insulation, and shorten the life of the transformer. The combination of overload and load imbalance accelerates transformer damage and reduces its reliability, which ultimately has a negative impact on the continuity of electricity supply to consumers. This study recommends the importance of effective load monitoring and management to maintain transformer performance and improve the quality of electricity supply. The results of this study are expected to provide insight for distribution system managers in an effort to improve the efficiency and operational reliability of distribution transformers.

Abstract

Isolation is the most important and inseparable thing in high voltage equipment. This isolation serves to separate two or more electrical conductors that are under voltage, so that there will be no electric jump or spark between the conductors. Air in normal conditions (air pressure 1013 mBar and temperature 20oC) has a certain breakdown voltage against high alternating voltage. Gas insulating materials, especially air, are insulating materials that are widely used in high voltage equipment because air in ideal conditions is a perfect insulator and is also the most widely used because it is easy, cheap and simple. In this test, room temperature conditions, conditions above and below room temperature are applied to ball-plane electrodes and needle-plane electrodes with different gap distances, to see how much influence the shape of the electrode, temperature, gap distance and voltage polarity have on the dielectric breakdown strength of air. Based on the measurement results at different gap distances, the characteristics of the increase in air breakdown voltage are obtained due to the influence of the gap distance between the two electrodes. The measurement results at different polarities show that the rougher, smaller and sharper electrodes with positive polarity will more easily release electrons. Keywords: insulation, air conditions, high voltage.
