Abstract

SEAN has moved forward by establishing the ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA) in 28 January 1992. The main objective of AFTA is to promote ASEAN countries competitive advantages by eliminating tariff and non-tariff barrier under AFTA’s Common Effective Preferential Tariff (CEPT) scheme. Indonesia participation in AFTA is worth noting since CEPT covers significant amount of Indonesian exports and imports. This paper investigates Indonesia trade performances under AFTA employing intra-industry trade analysis. It uses three digit SITC derived from UN COMTRADE. The results show that during 1992–2010, Indonesia and ASEAN trade was highlighted by intra rather than inter-industry trade, particularly for manufacture commodity. Further inter-temporal analysis confirms this finding with increasing trend of intra-industry trade for non-manufactured commodity. Nonetheless, Indonesian sectoral performance was less competitive compare to other ASEAN countries. This study suggests that Indonesia may enhance the advantage of being AFTA’s member by, for example, creating a conducive investment environment.

Abstract

Indonesian society is rich in myths. However, there are contradictory views among the people who believe and do not believe it. The uncertain truth of a myth followed by human fear of the truth of the myth itself. Myth is not just a mere story, but also cultural phenomenons, a product of human imagination, contain some meanings and social fact believed by the supporters. By taking a case study of Koloimba myth in Tolaki community, Southeast Sulawesi, the study aims to analyze (1) the structure of the myth miteme aspects, (2) the concept of incest in relation to Tolaki cultural myths. The research methods are the techniques of documentation, notes, and interviews. By using the paradigm of Lévi-Strauss’s structuralism, studies show 1. the relation structure Molowu myths and Saweringadi the social structure described through binary oppositions that contain specific messages with the Reject. for example, women><women, 2. the concept of incest in the myth that suggests ban Koloimba mate with a particular individual, is not accompanied by the recommendation, but rather emphasize aspects of the impact of an act that is considered taboo or abstinence done, particularly violations of the prohibition of incest. The results of this study suggest that myths are able deliver moral messages into simple language that guide behaviour and as a means of communication, and supporting the development of knowledge in society.

Abstract

ndonesian government has implemented new paradigm on the land border area management by combining security and prosperity approaches. This Evaluative research compared Entikong border area condition in West Kalimantan when the combined-approach based policy is implemented, with the condition before. The result showed that this policy is potensial to solve infrastructure weakness, trade dependence on Malaysia, poor education, threat to nationalism, and lack of coordination among institutions. But, this combined approach also proved lack of attention toward socio-culture aspect in local community. This research recommends Indonesian government to ask for active society involvement in decision making process and implementation of the policy on the land border area management. Thus, the objectives of security, prosperity, and socio-culture will be reached together.
