Abstract

This study examines ecoliteracy among students as a form of environmental  awareness transformation in green Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) in Indonesia from a literacy perspective. Pesantren are not only Islamic educational institutions but also have great potential in shaping the character of students who care about the environment. Through the integration of Islamic values, environmentally friendly practices, and an ecological literacy approach, green Islamic boarding schools create a learning ecosystem that fosters ecological awareness. This study highlights how students experience changes in their perspectives, behaviors, and active participation in environmental protection through literacy based on Islamic values and the pesantren's local context. This transformation demonstrates that ecoliteracy is not only about ecological knowledge, but also the internalization of spiritual, social, and cultural values in building sustainable environmental awareness.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the application of microteaching based on the Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) approach in improving the competence of prospective Early Childhood Education (PAUD) students in teaching English. The CLIL approach, which integrates foreign language learning with thematic content, is considered effective for implementation in early childhood education. Meanwhile, microteaching is a training strategy that allows students to practice pedagogical skills on a small and structured scale. The method used is a qualitative descriptive case study with 25 students from Mataram University who were randomly selected from 112 fourth-semester students as participants. Data were collected through structured observations during microteaching sessions and analyzed descriptively and quantitatively using percentages. The results showed that student competence in implementing the CLIL approach was classified as good, with the highest achievements in the cultural aspects (90%) and content (87%), especially in the use of interesting and contextual learning media. However, the communication and evaluation aspects of learning still need improvement, especially in encouraging children to interact actively in English and in designing objectives and assessments that are appropriate for children's development. These findings indicate that integrating CLIL into microteaching can equip students with practical and reflective skills in teaching English to early childhood, while also supporting their professional development as adaptive and competent prospective early childhood teachers.

Abstract

Mastery of speaking skills (maharah kalam) and reading skills (maharah qiro’ah) in Arabic is a crucial competency for students at the secondary level. Effective learning methods are essential to improve these two skills so that students can communicate and understand Arabic optimally. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the Total Physical Response Storytelling (TPRS) method in teaching speaking and reading skills to seventh-grade students at MTsS Ma’had Al Zaytun. The study was designed to compare learning outcomes between a class using the TPRS method and a class using conventional teaching methods. The research method used was quantitative with a quasi-experimental design, involving two groups: an experimental class that used the TPRS method and a control class with conventional teaching methods. The research population consisted of 407 students, with a sample of 60 students taken for each group. Data were collected through observation, interviews, speaking and reading pretests and posttests, and questionnaires. The results showed that the average posttest score for the experimental class's speaking ability was 88.47, while the control class's was 67.83. For reading skills, the average posttest score for the experimental class was 86.82 and 66.02 for the control class. A statistical t-test showed a t-value of 24.29 for speaking and 21.29 for reading with a significance of 0.000 (<0.05), proving the significant effectiveness of the TPRS method in improving students' Arabic speaking and reading skills.

Abstract

Education plays a strategic role in preserving local culture amidst the currents of modernization and globalization. This study aims to analyze the role of education in safeguarding the cultural values of the Osing ethnic group in Kemiren Village, Banyuwangi, which is recognized as a traditional village and cultural center of the Osing community. Kemiren Village utilizes local wisdom–based tourism as a medium to engage the community, particularly the younger generation, in maintaining cultural heritage. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study in Kemiren Village, integrating formal, non-formal, and informal education in the processes of social transformation and cultural preservation. The findings reveal that education through cultural activities such as festivals, art performances, and traditional art training plays a vital role in transmitting Osing cultural values. Furthermore, the implementation of a local culture–based curriculum in schools strengthens cultural identity among the younger generation. Despite challenges posed by modernization and cultural commercialization, culture-based education in Kemiren has proven effective in sustaining and preserving Osing traditions. These findings affirm that education involving active community participation can serve as an agent of social change and reinforce social cohesion in the preservation of local culture.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the obstacles faced by teachers in the implementation of thematic learning based on the 2013 curriculum at MI Al-Aziz. The research focuses on three key areas: (1) the implementation of thematic learning, (2) the challenges encountered by teachers, and (3) solutions to overcome these obstacles. The study employs a qualitative descriptive approach, using observation, interviews, and questionnaires as primary data collection methods. The results indicate that the thematic learning implementation has not been fully optimal due to a lack of teacher preparedness in lesson planning, limited resources, and inadequate training. Teachers also face difficulties in integrating various subjects into a coherent thematic approach. The study suggests that improving teacher training and providing better resources can enhance the implementation of the curriculum and resolve existing challenges.

Abstract

The Merdeka Belajar-Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program is an Indonesian educational initiative that gives students the opportunity to develop their skills. This program impacts the typical learning process at universities. This study discusses the MBKM program's impact on university learning processes. The study employs a qualitative research approach with a descriptive method. The data collection method used in this study is a literature review. The analysis employs triangulation of sources and data. The results indicate that the program positively impacts students by enhancing their hard and soft skills, which are aimed at addressing the challenges of the modern era. From a faculty perspective, the program requires innovation in classroom learning processes to align with contemporary needs. Additionally, this program increases the workload of lecturers, who are no longer solely focused on campus-based learning.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the contributions of classical Arab semantic scholars to the history and development of ?Ilm al-Dil?lah and to trace the relevance of their thought to modern semantic theory. Employing a literature review with a qualitative historical-analytical approach, the research examines the major works and ideas of Al-Far?h?d?, S?bawayh, Al-Jurj?n?, and Ibn Far?s through both classical and contemporary sources. The findings reveal that Al-Far?h?d? established the structural foundations of lexicography, S?bawayh expanded the grammatical-semantic dimension, Al-Jurj?n? constructed a relational theory through na?m, and Ibn Far?s developed a historical perspective through ta?awwur al-ma?n?. The intellectual legacy of these four figures played a pivotal role in shaping theories of meaning and lexical indication in modern Arabic linguistics. The study further recommends modifications to contemporary ?Ilm al-Dil?lah to make it more dynamic, integrative, and rooted in classical epistemology. The integration of classical traditions with modern approaches enables ?Ilm al-Dil?lah to evolve as a discipline that is relevant, contextual, and applicable in the fields of linguistics, Qur’anic exegesis, and contemporary Arabic language education.

Abstract

This study is a library research aimed at analyzing the phenomenon of semantic change (extension, narrowing, and shift) in the Arabic language based on both classical and modern theories. The primary source of this research is Tam?m ?assan’s Al-Lughah al-?Arabiyyah: Ma?n?h? wa Mabn?h?, which emphasizes the interrelation between form (mabn?) and meaning (ma?n?) within the structure of Arabic. The findings indicate that semantic change arises not only from internal linguistic processes but is also influenced by socio-cultural, psychological, religious-historical, as well as scientific and technological factors. The implementation of these phenomena can be observed in Qur’anic exegesis and Hadith studies, the compilation of modern dictionaries, digital communication, and contemporary Arabic language teaching. Thus, semantic change reflects the vitality and adaptive capacity of Arabic in responding to the dynamics of time without losing its semantic and historical roots.
