Abstract

Unique character and common behavior are two distinguished things. In frontier nanoscience and nanotechnology, unique characters were normally obtained in some novel exotics materials such as metal-metal core-shell materials, metallic-semiconducting hybrid nanomaterials, and organic-inorganics complex nano-compounds. On the other hand, normal behavior of natural phenomena including in nano-size objects were obviously predicted based on their exact size related to confinement effect, and capability to interact with another physical system in nature. Here, we report an example of unique character due to evolution nonlinear behavior observed in gold nanorod with their aspect-ratio dependence of optical nonlinearities investigated by femtosecond Z-scan measurements closed to resonance longitudinal surface plasmon peak in gold nanorods (Au NRs). Saturable absorption manifests itself at low excitation (laser irradiances < ~7.0 GW/cm2), while reverse saturable absorption dominates at higher excitation. Both the nonlinear processes are found to increase with the aspect ratio of Au NRs. Based on the discrete dipole approximation, qualitative explanations are presented for the observed nonlinear behavior. While common behavior in metallic quantum dots or other shapes of metallic nanomaterials was not the significant in our observation.

Abstract

The influence of calcination temperatures in TiO2 impregnated Ouw’s natural clay on its degradation activity of methylene blue dye has been done. Calcination process was conducted at various temperatures of 200, 300, and 400 oC. The characterization of TiO2 impregnated clay’s structure was examined by IR analysis. The result showed that Ouw’s natural clay has characterized vibrations of montmorillonite and thermal effect didn’t affect the structure of TiO2 impregnated clay. The highest result of methylene blue’s degradation occurred in the addition of TiO2 impregnated clay calcinated at 200 oC (98.69%). This result was found that calcination temperatures of impregnation process were significantly affect the degradation activity of TiO2 impregnated clays.

Abstract

To know sensory characteristic of jelly candy based on consumers acceptances. This research used trial method, with ratio between Caulerpa sp and sugar were 1:0.5, 1:1 and 1:1.5. Result of consumer acceptances tests toward color, taste, texture and odor of Caulerpa jelly candy was collected using hedonic range. Caulerpa seaweed could be processed to be jelly candy with consumer acceptance level in range “neutral” to “like”. The highest level of consumer acceptance was on the Caulerpa ratio 1:1.5 with acceptance level for color, odor and texture were “not much like”, meanwhile acceptance level for taste was “like”.

Abstract

A widely used estimation method in estimating regression model parameters is the ordinary least square (OLS) that minimizes the sum of the error squares. In addition to the ease of computing, OLS is a good unbiased estimator as long as the error component assumption () in the given model is met. However, in the application, it is often encountered violations of assumptions. One of the violation types is the violation of distributed error assumption which is caused by the existence of the outlier on observation data. Thus, a solid method is required to overcome the existence of outlier, that is Robust Regression. One of the Robust Regression methods commonly used is robust MM method. Robust MM method is a combination of breakdown point and high efficiency. Results obtained based on simulated data generated using SAS software 9.2, shows that the use of objective weighting function tukey bisquare is able to overcome the existence of extreme outlier. Furthermore, it is determined that the value of tuning constant c with Robust MM method is 4.685 and it is obtained95% of efficiency. Thus, the obtained breakdown point is 50%.

Abstract

Recently producing profit by exchanging currency of one country with that of the other has been conducted among traders. This activity is called “FX” – the abbreviation of Foreign eXchange. The fluctuation of the price of currency is caused by the psychology of traders so that it apparently varies at random. However, after so many traders take part in FX, the trend of currency expectedly shows several patterns and is said to be subject to a certain principle which was firstly suggested by R.N.Elliott (1871-1948). In our recent research, we have tried to construct an algorithm relying on this Elliott wave principle and establish an automated transaction of FX by a computer. One of the aims of this PC-algorithm is to determine the line graph which well-approximates a real currency fluctuation under the constraints of the Elliott principle. In this paper, we will survey how to construct an algorithm for well-approximating line graph, and theoretically discuss the least number of intersection points in currency fluctuation and the well-approximating line graph, which enhances the validity of the algorithm.
