Abstract

Zeolite is a composite minerals from mining which can be used as a source of minerals in animal ration. It has high absorbability and cation exchange characteristics. This study was aimed to examine the influence of zeolit and blood meal in the pig ration on pork quality characterictics. The experiment used 27 crossbred pig comprising 19 gilts and 8 barrows, with initial weight of 25.29 + 2.67 kgs. They were set up in a completely randomized factorial design 3 x 3, where the first factor was zeolit levels (0, 3, and 6%) and the second factor was blood meal level (0, 5, and 10%). The results showed that there were no significant influence of zeolite, blood meal or their interaction on all meat quality characteristics including pH, water holding capacity, tenderness, color and intramuscular fat contents of pork, except the measurement at pH of six hours postmortem of the pork was significantly (P < 0.01) affected by blood meal level of the ration. Five percent (5%) blood meal in the ration gave the highest pH of pork compared to the other blood meal levels. Key words: pig, pork quality, zeolite, blood meal

Abstract

The study was carried out by using 10 dams with single female kids and the same number of dams with single male kids, separated into two groups with their respectively kids. All kids received natural milk from their dams. After 4 weeks old, each group was divided into 2 subgroups in order to evaluate the effect of the creep feeding supplement. The result indicated that female kids growth lower (P < 0.05) than that of the male kids and the creep feed gave a significant effect on the growth rate (P < 0.05) on male which was 37% over those kids without creep feed; however there was no significant different (P > 0.05) of growth rate on the female. The highest growth rate was found on male with creep feed (107 g/d) and the lowest on female without creep feed feeding. Key words: Kacang goat, pre-weaning, creep feed

Abstract

The objectives of this research was to know the proportion and cha-racteristic of sperm after separated by albumen column technique. To identify the sperm bearing X, Y chromosome, the head of sperm from the fresh semen and the separated sperm were measured by morfometric method. The length and the width of the head sperm from fresh semen (9.21 and 5.10 m) were smaller than up fraction (9.68 and 5.44 µm) and similar with bottom fraction (9.15 and 5.14 µm). The proportion of X, Y spermatozoa from fresh semen (43 : 57) were significantly different (P < 0.01) compare to up fraction (80.88 : 19.12). However, almost similar with bottom fraction (41.80 : 58.82). The motility and sperm plasm membrane intact of spermatozoa from fresh semen were (77.5 and 79.68%) significantly higher (P < 0.01) compare to X spermatozoa (70.83 and 62.04%) and also Y spermatozoa (75 and 63.1%). The abnormality of sperm from fresh semen (2.17%) was significantly lower (P < 0.01) compare to X spermatozoa (6.32%) and Y spermatozoa (7.91%). These results showed that the sperm after separated by albumen column technique could be used for artificial insemination. Key words : sperm plasm, membrane intact, motility, albumin column

Abstract

Abstract

Tea waste is by-product of tea manufacturer that is potential as an alternative of protein source. Twenty male cross-breed weanling rabbits were used to investigate the optimum utilization of tea waste in ration of rabbit. Completely randomized design was used with four treatments and five replications. The levels of tea waste in pellet rations as the treatment consisted of 0% (AT0), 10% (AT10), 20% (AT20), and 30% (AT30) of dry matter. The dry matter intake, average daily gain (AVG), ration conversion, mortality, and economical value were measured in this experiment. The result showed that the treatments did not significantly affect dry matter intake, average daily gain, and ration conversion. The mortality was 0 percent and the profit increased in ration containing tea waste. It was concluded that tea waste could support good performance of the rabbits and it could be used as an alternative of protein sources until 30% in ration. Key words: rabbit, tea waste, protein sources

Abstract

The objective of this study was to identify television programme preference and viewing motives, and comparing viewing motives between urban and rural farmers. Survey was conducted in four villages (2 urban villages and 2 rural villages) in Bogor District involving 160 farmers as respondents. Television viewing habit and motives were the main data to be collected by using quistionnare and self reporting technique. The study showed there was no difference in television viewing habit and programme preferences between urban farmers and rural farmers, except in time spent. The programme were: movie, news, and quiz. Primary motives in television viewing were entertainment and to seek information, either as news source or knowledge. Nevertheless, the difference in television viewing motive between urban and rural farmers was not significant. Key words: farmers, motive, rural village, urban village, viewing habit
