Abstract

The mamukek tradition is a collective fishing practice preserved in Nagari Sungai Pinang, Pesisir Selatan Regency, West Sumatra, serving as a vital component of the "blue food" system for artisanal fishers. Beyond a mere fishing technique, this practice functions as a social institution that governs access, catch distribution, and labor solidarity within the fishing community. This study aims to analyze how mamukek operates as a blue food security mechanism within a common property regime framework based on local customary (adat) rules. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, the research utilized participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data validity was ensured through source and data triangulation, with analysis conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that mamukek is executed through organized collective labor, with clear roles divided between the net owners (induk pukek) and the crew (anak pukek). The catch distribution system is relatively equitable and grounded in customary agreements, acting as a food distribution mechanism that guarantees fish protein access for fishing households, even during periods of uncertain yields. Furthermore, mamukek is governed by a set of traditional norms—such as the regulation of fishing days (hari iduik and hari mati), prohibitions on specific days, and social sanctions—which effectively prevent conflict and ensure the sustainability of marine resources. Despite facing environmental challenges like extreme weather, jellyfish seasons, and pressures from coastal tourism, the fishing community demonstrates resilience through collective strategies and consensus-based (musyawarah) decision-making.

Abstract

This study aims to explore traditional medicine and healing incantations of the Tidung tribe in North Kalimantan. Key informants were selected through purposive sampling among practitioners of traditional medicine among the Tidung tribe. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed descriptively through data reduction, data display, verification, and triangulation. The results showed that medicinal plants accompanied by incantations (mantras) such as kalancoe pinnata (kekapal) are effective in treating toothache and fever, cat’s whiskers (sumit usi) is effective in treating back pain, betel leaf (buyu) is effective in stopping bleeding (nosebleeds), red onion (bawang lia) is effective in treating colds, and nipa palm (perumpung) is effective in treating broken bones These findings show that the traditional medicine system of the Tidung tribe in North Kalimantan, which uses incantations or prayers in the local language, Malay, and Arabic, ending with prayers for healing to God and salawat to the Prophet, still exists amid the rapid development of modern medicine. However, there needs to be strategic inheritance to the younger generation that is more dialogical and inclusive, so that traditional medicine does not appear exclusive.

Abstract

Indonesia continues to face challenges in food and nutrition fulfillment that lead to stunting, particularly in Pidie District, Aceh. This study aims to analyze the power of women's knowledge in family food fulfillment using Michel Foucault’s Power-Knowledge and Body Discipline theories. Using a qualitative approach, in-depth interviews were conducted with 40 families of stunted children and infants under two years old (baduta). The results reveal a dualism in knowledge construction: government knowledge, which promotes balanced nutrition through the "Fill My Plate" slogan, and community knowledge, dominated by ancestral traditions (such as postpartum dietary taboos and early introduction of bananas to infants). The power of women's knowledge is manifested in food selection practices that prioritize carbohydrates and animal proteins (62%) over vegetables and fruits (12%). This reflects that the process of body discipline is more intensively shaped by the intimate family environment through local knowledge rather than formal health authorities. The study recommends optimizing Posyandu and early childhood education (PAUD) through collective dining practices as a more concrete means of nutritional discipline for the community.

Abstract

This article analyzes the effectiveness of coordination between members of the Regional Representative Council of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI) from Bengkulu Province and the Bengkulu Provincial Government in advocating community aspirations for regional development. The study is based on the unclear working mechanism between DPD RI as a regional representative institution at the national level and the provincial government as the administrator of regional autonomy. From a socio-anthropological perspective, regional aspirations are understood not merely as administrative proposals, but also as expressions of local interests, experiences of development inequality, and demands for recognition within central–local relations. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach through in-depth interviews, observation, and document analysis. The informants include a DPD RI member from Bengkulu Province, the Head of the DPD RI Representative Office in Bengkulu, the Regional Secretary of Bengkulu Province, and community figures. The analysis focuses on three coordination mechanisms: mutual adjustment, direct supervision, and the standardization of procedures, outputs, and skills. The findings show that coordination has taken place through formal and informal communication, particularly in the aspiration-gathering stage. However, coordination remains ineffective in the stage of advocating these aspirations to the central government because there is no standard operating procedure governing joint work mechanisms. This article emphasizes the need to institutionalize coordination so that regional aspirations do not stop at the collection stage but are systematically advocated through national policy processes.
