Abstract

One’s Identity is a vital component of a human life. Identity is important, es- pecially considering when oneself is sometimes subjected to the judgment of others. Emmanuel Levinas initiated the concept of the ‘Imago Dei’ to reduce negative judgment whilst simultaneously elevating individual uniqueness based upon our natures as im- ages of God. The idea of ‘imago Dei’ manifests in one’s face. Our visage then becomes a non-verbal media of communication akin to a conversation expressing one’s identity whereas a dialectical exchange would otherwise prove cumbersome. An understanding of the ‘imago Dei’ brings people towards the awareness of their statuses as God’s cre- ations, creations most associated with Him to the extent he deigned designated them His very images.

Abstract

Interpretation is the art of seeking meaning just as the author originally intend- ed. In the process, the author’s intent becomes the key of which among many towards an interpretation. Each interpretation requires the interpreter to enter the author’s mind and identify with the author, achieve total experience or repeat the global experience of the author and enter the realm of his emotions. Chairil Anwar’s ‘aku Berkaca’ is an interesting text offering a rich depth of meaning to be drawn from. There are at least three layers of meaning contained within the poem, namely the context layer, the sound layer, and the meaning layer. These three layers of meaning usher the reader towards the climax indeed the climax as the author intends is a message and meaning in of itself.

Abstract

Technology continues to develop over time, from the Stone Age to the present day. Humans originally were the subject of creators and users of technology now feel threatened because they have degenerated into simply objects to technology. In other words, human dignity itself is threatened. According to Jean-François Lyotard, it can even be said of humans that we too are some form of technology, technology consisting of intelligent organ systems which have certain functioning mechanisms and that which work together to form an individual. Humans can not claim to be the most dignified of all creatures; we are but technological beings, motes of a much grander technological universe. Everything that which humanity creates and strives for, such as that of tech- nology, comes into its existence solely not of our own merits of skill or dignity, but rather due to humanities role as participants of a moving universe.

Abstract

Ever has man sought happiness to enrich his days, to such lengths that twould not be an understatement to state happiness is his life’s goal. Aristotle defines happiness as eudaimonia, a goal which must be achieved by any means, whilst Harari offers the definition as a process of knowing oneself but even so a meeting point between the two I claim may be possible particularly in this day and age in order to seek and achieve hap- piness. As one may derive from the meeting point, both agree happiness is not limited to the simple fulfillment of physical needs. Happiness possesses an internal dimension, wrought once one lives a wholesome existence in concord to ones vocation.
