Abstract

Background: Hirschsprung’s Disease is a congenital disorder characterized by the absence of ganglionic cells in the colon, causing loss of peristaltic movement in the bowel. Most cases are diagnosed before the age of one and marked by the delayed passage of meconium, vomiting, and distended abdomen. Here, we present a case of a 2-year-old boy with an atypical presentation of malnutrition and developmental delay as a complication of Hirschsprung’s Disease. Case Presentation: A 2-year-old boy who presented with abdominal distention and chronic constipation was referred to our hospital. Past personal history revealed that he frequently suffered from the symptoms but was previously diagnosed with regular constipation and only consumed symptomatic medication. On admission, his vital signs were all normal, but his appearance was pale and weak. Growth and developmental screening showed poor growth status and developmental delay in all four domains. From the physical examination, gross abdominal distention was found and the rectal examination demonstrated a tight anal sphincter, empty rectal vault, and a green-colored stool with no forceful expulsion. Radiologic and histopathological findings suggested Hirschsprung’s disease. Conclusion: Chronic abdominal distention followed by malnutrition and developmental delay can present as a complication of hirschsprung’s diseasein older children. Due to these subtle signs and symptoms, a thorough examination and proper diagnostic algorithm are

Abstract

Coronavirus Disease-19 (COVID-19) is caused by the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) as part of the novel coronavirus. Clinical monitoring and appropriate treatment strategies are essential to reduce case fatality. Various examination parameters to support diagnosis such as ESR and CRP in assessing the response of a systemic inflammatory process. C-reactive protein (CRP) levels can be used in the initial diagnosis of pneumonia and patients with severe pneumonia have high CRP levels. Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) as a non-specific inflammatory response examination which has increased in various physiological disorders such as infection and inflammation. The purpose of this study was to determine the levels of ESR and CRP as biomarkers of inflammation in patients with COVID-19 at RSPTN UNHAS, Makassar. This study involved 32 subjects who met the inclusion criteria for positive RT-PCR COVID-19,  age 21-70 years and  signed of informed concent. Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate Check by Auto ESR Analyzer using the Westergreen method and C-reactive protein Check by qualitative test.  The result of this research that the average age of the subjects was 51 years consisting of 14 (56.2%) female subjects and 18 (43.8%) male subjects. The median value of CRP examination is 48.00 mg/dL and the median value of ESR is 63.00 mm/hour. 2. There is a significant difference between the CRP values in male and female subjects. There is a significant relationship between CRP and ESR values with a strong

Abstract

Background: Endometrioma is a complex gynecological disease with increasing global prevalence. Laparoscopic cystectomy remains to be the primary choice of modality. Several studies, however, have revealed that laparoscopic cystectomy in endometriomas can cause ovarian damage and reduction in ovarian reserve. They demonstrated a decrease in serum AMH levels in endometrioma patients following laparoscopic cystectomyObjective: To identify the difference between the mean post-laparoscopic cystectomy AMH levels in endometrioma and non-endometrioma cysts patientsMethods: A prospective cohort study with 40 selected patients undergoing laparoscopic cystectomy in Kariadi General Hospital Semarang. They were divided into 2 groups of endometrioma and non-endometrioma cysts. AMH levels were measured before and after laparoscopic cystectomy surgery in both groupsResults: The mean age of endometrioma and non-endometrioma group were 32.40 ± 6.26 and 30.6 ± 3.69 years consecutively. The most common cysts were unilateral cysts with a diameter of > 4 cm which were dominated by endometrioma cysts. The group of subjects with endometrial cysts had lower AMH levels, both before (9.47 + 5.26 ng/mL) and after laparoscopic cystectomy (7.80 + 4.27 ng/mL). AMH levels before and after laparoscopic cystectomy in the endometrioma group showed a significant difference (p=0.004). In contrast, there was no significant difference in delta AMH between the non-endometrioma group (-1.63 + 4.12; p=0.685) and the endometrioma group (-1.74 + 2.37 ng/mL; p=0.685)Conclusion: Both endometrioma and non-endometrioma groups showed a decrease in AMH levels after laparoscopic cystectomy but they did not show a significant difference.

Abstract

Background : Anyone has the potential to get injured, especially burns. Hydrogel membrane and liquid smoke are a combination of antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. These properties play an important role in wound healing. In wound healing, the re-epithelialization process is a critical parameter for the success of wound closure.Aim : Analyzed the effect of re-epithelialization length on burns of rats given a liquid smoke combination hydrogel membrane. Methods : Experimental research used post test only with control group design. The number of samples was 15 white wistar rats with burns which were divided into two treatment groups, namely P1 (liquid smoke combination hydrogel membrane), P2 (liquid smoke) and one control group K (hydrogel membrane). Assessment of reepithelialization length has been calculated using a microscope. Statistical test using One Way ANOVA – Post Hoc Bonferroni test. Results : The average length of re-epithelialization (µm) for each group was (P1) 2004.91, (P2) 1534.15 and (K) 1248.16. Based on the results of the One Way ANOVA analysis, we found p value  = 0.028 (p <0.05). This shows that there were significant differences in the data between groups. Conclusions : There was a significant difference on the length of re-epithelialization in rats burn wound between hydrogel membrane group with liquid smoke, liquid smoke group and control group.

Abstract

Background: Advanced maternal age (AMA) is becoming increasingly common and is associated with increased maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. Around 22,2% of maternal deaths were found to be from cardiovascular disease, and women with higher cardiovascular mortality were likely older. Electrocardiography (ECG) is a simple tool for detecting cardiovascular problems. Though there are many studies of the ECG in normal pregnant women, there is still limited data on the ECG pattern in pregnant women with AMA.Objective: Describe the characteristics of the ECG pattern in woman with AMA.Methods: This study used data retrospectively from medical records of patient in Kariadi General Hospital Semarang from 1st to 30th October 2018. The inclusion criteria were advanced age ³ 35 years,  in the last trimester. Demography, clinical, laboratory , and 12-lead ECG data were collected and reported. Results: Thirteen patients were obtained, with mean age of 38,3 years. Majority of patients had preeclampsia (61,5%) and superimposed preeclampsia (15,4%). Mean systolic blood pressure was 168 mmHg. All of the patients was sinus rhythm, with a mean heart rate 92,5 bpm. Mean QTc was 430,7ms, with 3 patients (23,1%) having borderline prolongation grade. Another abnormality was a left atrial abnormality in 3 patients (23,1%), poor R wave progression in 2 patients (15,4%), and a pathological Q wave in 1 patients (7,7%).Conclusion: ECG abnormalities are seen in 38,4% of pregnant women over 35 years old. The performance of an ECG in AMA may be a first step toward improved pregnancy outcomes since it is widely available and easily interpreted by general practitioners.
