Abstract

The Margi Mulyo farmer group is one of the farmer groups in Wuluhan District, Jember Regency. The high potential for mango production in Wuluhan District is the main background for the implementation of service with the aim of increasing the capacity of human resources in cultivating mangoes to produce mangoes that can meet national and export market standards through the implementation of good agricultural practices (GAP). The main problem that occurs at the activity location is that mango cultivation is still not standardized by members of farmer groups so that the mango fruit produced does not fully meet market standards. Mangoes are only marketed in a slash system so farmers cannot get high returns on the fruit sold. So the high interest in mangoes as national fruit consumption is not accompanied by mango production according to market standards. The method used in this activity is the active participatory method, in three main activities, namely counseling, implementation, and mentoring. This activity was carried out from August to September 22024. The results of the service activity included an increase in the knowledge of members of the Margi Mulyo farmer group regarding the application of GAP, an increase in farmers' ability to apply mango flowering induction and the use of certified seeds.

Abstract

A significant global issue faced by urban areas worldwide is the extensive conversion of agricultural land. In Indonesia, data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in 2021 indicates that the conversion of national rice fields ranges from 60,000 to 80,000 hectares annually. This trend poses a serious threat to the availability of rice and other food sources. Therefore, urban agriculture represents a practical solution for ensuring food availability in a sustainable and independent manner. One applicable technology is the Vertical Hydroponic Farming System. The objectives of this initiative are: (a) to equip teachers with technical skills so they can serve as trainers for their students, and (b) to provide technical support to SMPN 7 Jember, an environmentally friendly school, in its pursuit of achieving Adiwiyata School status at the East Java provincial level by 2024. The methods employed include: (a) delivering theoretical foundations of hydroponic farming systems through traditional lectures, (b) hands-on practice involving the construction of hydroponic installations, seeding and transplanting techniques, maintenance, harvesting, and post-harvest handling, and (c) implementing hydroponic installations and cultivation at SMPN 7 by actively engaging both teachers and students. In conclusion: (a) there was a 110% increase in teachers' knowledge and skills related to hydroponic farming, with evaluation results of the technical guidance averaging 4.9 (very good), and (b) the implementation of hydroponic installations and cultivation at SMPN 7 Jember progressed smoothly, supporting the school in its goal of achieving Adiwiyata School status at the provincial level.

Abstract

UKM Peternakan Hasanah is a broiler chicken farming business with a closed house system established in 2022 in Sumber Baru Village, Jember Regency. This farm raises 10,000 chickens with a harvest period at the age of 28 to 32 days. One of the main problems is manual monitoring of temperature, humidity, and ammonia gas, resulting in a lack of precision and efficiency. As a solution, technology is applied in the form of a portable monitoring tool using a DHT22 sensor for temperature and humidity and an MQ137 sensor for ammonia gas. Data from the sensor is processed with ESP32 and stored on a microSD card. The implementation method used is Participatory Learning and Action (PLA), which involves partners in every stage, from situation analysis, tool making, mentoring, to evaluation. This program produces a monitoring tool that is cheap, portable, and easy to use, with an increase in partner understanding from 30% to 80%. As a result, the chicken mortality rate has decreased and the efficiency of cage management has increased. This program is expected to become a model for sustainable technology for broiler chicken farming in Indonesia.

Abstract

The TEFA Nursery under the Department of Agricultural Production at Polije was initiated in 2020. From 1990 to 2024, the practice land at the TEFA Nursery has been intensively used for the cultivation of food and plantation crops, leading to a decline in soil fertility and reduced crop yields. This community service activity aims to improve soil fertility by increasing organic carbon levels and total soil bacteria. The activities were carried out from July to August 2024, with the following stages: (i) Coordination and preparation; (ii) Material socialization at the TEFA Nursery; (iii) Application of blotong fertilizer; (iv) Technical guidance on the use of dry soil testing devices; and (v) Monitoring and evaluation. These activities assisted TEFA Nursery managers in planning and maintaining cultivated plants with higher yields and better quality.

Abstract

One of the essential obligations of higher education institutions is to engage in community service. To maximize the impact of these activities, collaborations with potential beneficiaries are crucial. Public service organizations are ideal partners for such endeavors. This community service project focused on enhancing the efficiency and accessibility of services at the DISPORABUDPAR of Nganjuk Regency, located at Jl. Diponegoro No. 29, Mangundikaran, Nganjuk District, East Java. Key challenges identified included manual processing of artist registration renewals, the necessity of in-person visits for advice letters and performance permits, disorganized building rental administration, and public confusion regarding event promotion. To address these issues, a mobile and web-based application named "Nganjuk Elok" was developed. This digital solution aims to encourage community participation in cultural and tourism activities while improving the efficiency of budget and resource management within the DISPORABUDPAR. Ultimately, "Nganjuk Elok" has the potential to contribute to local economic growth by attracting more tourists and fostering the creative sector.

Abstract

The Teaching Factory Nursery at Politeknik Negeri Jember has palm oil plantation which is used for student practice. Oil palm plants have entered the TM (Producing Plant) phase, but the palm fruit produced has never been used. Palm fruit that is not harvested and is ripe, if it falls to the ground, will germinate and grow into a new plant, this will make handling more difficult because you have to uproot the plant to clean it. Another problem is that there are no tools that support the processing of palm fruit into Cruda Plam Oil (CPO). Seeing the huge potential of this palm fruit, the proposing team together with the management of the Teaching Factory Nursery agreed to take advantage of the opportunity through community service activities to produce CPO which will later become red palm oil ready for consumption using simple processing equipment. The service activity begins with a FGD to agree on product manufacture, location and equipment maintenance, as well as product marketing. The proposing team also provides assistance in product creation, storage, packaging, and product marketing for program sustainability.  The results of the activity show an increase in partners' knowledge and skills regarding post-harvest management of palm oil. The partners' enthusiasm in demonstrating the stages of processing palm oil into CPO is also able to solve problems and solutions and increase income from product sales.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to improve the quality and competitiveness of honey soy milk products at "UD Sehat Sejahtera" Jember through packaging innovation. This activity is in line with the Jember State Polytechnic P3M program which focuses on strengthening agro-industry using local raw materials. In this activity, the service team identified that the plastic packaging currently used has many shortcomings, both in terms of durability and environmental impact. Therefore, innovation was carried out by changing the packaging to PET bottles which are more environmentally friendly and able to maintain product quality for longer. This activity includes design and development of new packaging, training for workers regarding the production process, as well as digital marketing strategies. The results of this activity are expected to increase the attractiveness of the product in the market, extend shelf life, and increase consumer satisfaction, thereby supporting the sustainability of the "UD Sehat Sejahtera" business in Jember.
