Abstract

In this modern era, we can get everything we want easily. Human most likely to use technology and think rationally. However, the people in Semen, Tanggalrejo Village, Mojoagung District, Jombang Regency is different because they still believe in the existence of supernatural things and routinely perform offerings activity called “suguh sesajen” to the Tomb of Bariden great grandfather and Mah great grandfather which are believed to be able to obtain good fortune and perform several rituals. This research uses qualitative methods by conducting in-depth interviews and observations. The results of this study indicate that the community still adheres to the tradition “suguh sesajen” offerings and believes in the myth of the occult power of the tomb.

Abstract

Boarding house students are students who migrate. Their consumption patterns are determined by the income they receive each month. The consumption of boarding students, among others, is for food consumption and nonfood consumption. This study aims to analyze the consumption patterns of boarding house students from the class of 2017 in the Department of Anthropology, Airlangga University. The data of this study were obtained from the questionnaire (primary) and interviews with boarding house students from the class of 2017 in the Department of Anthropology, Airlangga University. The results of this study showed that the high income students tend to be more consumptive compared to the lower income ones.

Abstract

We cannot deny that besides having a function as an entertainment, music also has influences to its listeners. Music existence has been there and developed since thousands years ago, and in every development, Music can perform beautiful tones and meaningful messages for its listeners. Music can take the listeners to their world that will give significant influences in their lives. Music can influence the minds and brains; therefore, it can produce health by listening music. This research aims to find out the influence that we can get from listening to music, digging the information related to the benefits of music, and analyzing how music influences its listeners. The method used in this research is the quantitative approach by using the survey and questionnaire methods. The conclusion that the researcher can explain in this research is that music is not only entertainment media but music can also send the listeners’ tiredness away; furthermore music brings the positive effects to its listeners. The effects that the listeners often feel are: that music can influence someone’s cognitive development which covers someone’s intelligence level until someone’s memory and also someone’s health that can reduce the blood pressure, reduce the anxiety levels, stress and depression.

Abstract

The purpose of writing this article is to examine the way parenting can influence the growth of attitudes and character in children from families in lower middle economic classes. By studying the parenting, the most appropriate parenting for children’s growth and development. The study was conducted on the social figures around children, especially parents and teachers who can understand every pattern of development that occurs in children in a city. This research utilized in-depth interviews and observation methods in order to identify the  meeting point that the best parenting pattern is democratic parenting. Therefore, the inculcation of attitudes towards children from an early age must indeed be carried out to support the implementation of democratic parenting. Family and school are the social institutions that are interlocking and have a reciprocal relationship since both hold an important role for the growth and development of children. Having a synergistic relationship and becoming the social control for children are the essential key in improving the children’s quality in the future. Economic limitations are not an obstacle to the fulfillment of the social role held by parents and schools. Precisely with this awareness, it is expected that families can become more aware of the impacts resulting from parenting mistakes. Children who will become the future of the family will be saved. Social mobility is also highly likely to occur when parenting is properly implemented.

Abstract

Gender problems have become daily topics of discussion. The relationship between gender and parenting in a family can also cause different problems because the understanding among individuals in the family is also different. The purpose of this study was to determine the understanding of parents about gender and to identify the way parents provide parenting to boys and girls. The research method used in this study was a descriptive qualitative approach. The informants in this research were parents who have teenaged children, either boys or girls, or both of them. The results of this study indicate that parents in Claket Village did not understand the differences between gender and sex because they still distinguished the tasks based on sex. The way that the parents used to provide parenting to boys and girls was to involve their children directly in doing their parents’ activities.
