Abstract

Good characteristics of surimi can be seen from its ability to form a gel, one of which is the temperature setting. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the setting temperature on the surimi gel of moonfish (Megalops cyprinoides). The study used a completely randomized design with treatments of five temperature setting with three replications. Parameters observed were gel strength, folding test, whiteness and expressible moisture content. The results showed that setting temperature had a significant effect on gel strength, folding test, whiteness degree and expressible moisture content (p<0.05) at 95% confidence level. The setting temperature treatment of 40oC and without setting had the highest gel strength compared to other treatments with the max load values of 59.79 kg/cm2 and 60.63±1.44 kg/cm2, respectively, with a 5-fold test quality value, namely does not crack after being folded into quarters. The best setting temperature for the gel forming ability of fish surimi for moonfish is 40oC and without setting temperature.

Abstract

Sediment is a collection of particles that come from weathering both soil and rock, biological and an anthropogenic process. Sediment flows from upstream to downstream areas. Topographic conditions are one of teh factors in sedimen distribution. The topography in the Wonorejo area tends to be low because it is located in a coastal area. The purpose of this study is to determine the effects of topographic changes in Wonorejo on the distribution of sediments in the area. The method used in this study is descriptive method by collecting data including primary data and secondary data. The primary data used are Landsat 7 and Landsat 8 satellite imagery, while the secondary data used is in the form of Surabaya village administration map data, Surabaya DEM data and Indonesian SHP data. Data processing was performed using ArcGIS 10.3 software. The results indicated that the topographic conditions of the region did not have a significant influence on the distribution of sediments in the Wonorejo area. The distribution of sediment in those area was more influenced by hydro-oceanographic factors such as currents, tides and waves. Other factors that influence are anthropogenic factors such as development and land conversion

Abstract

The mangrove ecosystem is a coastal wetland resource that has a diversity of biodiversities such as flora, fauna, and microorganisms. Microbes are an important component in the mangrove environment not only play a role in creating and maintaining boosters but also work as a source of biotechnology products. Cellulolytic bacteria are a group of cellulase-producing bacteria capable of breaking down cellulose into glucose monomers, and cellulose as a source of carbon and energy. This study aims to screen and determine the diversity of cellulolytic bacteria from the mangrove ecosystem. The research method was experimentally by exploring the diversity of cellulolytic bacteria from soil and sediment from the mangrove ecosystem. Three sampling locations were selected, such as litter soil, soil in the root area, and soil in the tidal area. Screening of potential bacteria producing cellulase enzymes was carried out by growing bacteria on Carboxy Methyl Cellulose (CMC) agar medium which was cultured for 48 hours at 37°C. The bacteria that produced the greatest cellulolytic activity were characterized by their morphological and physiological characteristics. The results of bacterial characterization were then adjusted according to Bergey's Manual of Determinative Bacteriology. Based on the analysis showed three bacterial isolates were obtained that had the largest cellulolytic activity index, namely MS06 (9.73), MS08 (5.41), and MS02 (5.07). The results showed that three isolates had the same characteristics as the bacterial genera Bacillus, Cellulomonas, and Micrococcus.

Abstract

Pearl catfish has the main advantage of fast growth. To maximize this growth, one of the things that must be considered is the feed given. The use of factory feed for catfish seeds is common, so it is necessary to use feed raw materials that are around to be used as raw materials for homemade feed. Vegetable waste such as cabbage and tofu dregs can be used as fish feed which is processed into pellets. Cabbage vegetable waste, tofu dregs, bamboo shoots and bran have protein and carbohydrates that can be used for fish growth. This study consisted of 2 stages, namely stage 1 analyzing the comparison between factory feed and homemade feed and stage 2 analyzing the difference in dosage of homemade feed on the growth and efficiency of pearl catfish (C. gariepinus) seed feed. Data were analyzed using 2 independent samples (unpaired) t-test and ANOVA test. The results showed that the provision of factory feed and homemade feed did not have a significant effect on the growth of length, weight, and feed efficiency of catfish fry. Catfish seeds can be fed homemade feed with ingredients from fermented cabbage waste, tofu dregs flour, rebon flour, bran flour, plus vitamins and minerals. The results of the analysis of variance in the treatment of different feed doses (4%, 5%, 6%, 7%, and 10% per fish body weight), had a significant effect on the growth of catfish length and weight, and had no significant effect on feed efficiency. The higher the dose given for the maintenance period of 30 days of catfish fry gave a good effect with the best dose of 10% per fish body weight

Abstract

Oil pollution in the waters is one of the factors that affect the abundance of phytoplankton, especially the diatom. The waters of Lalang Strait, Mengkapan Village, are used as international shipping lanes and industrial areas. The research was conducted in the Waters of Lalang Strait Mengkapan Village, Siak Regency, Riau Province. The research was conducted at 3 stations with different location characteristics. Station 1 is near Tanjung Button Port, station 2 is in the mangrove ecotourism area, and station 3 is in the fishing port and near the settlement. The result of oil content analysis obtained an average value of 0,00016 ppm. The highest oil content at station 3 is 0,00035 ppm and the lowest at station 2 is 0,00011 ppm. The results of the calculation of the abundance of planktonic diatoms ranged from 5.014 to 22.062 cells/l. The highest abundance at station 1 was 17.716 cells/l. The lowest abundance was at station 2 which was 9.694 cells/l. Simple linear regression test result, obtained equation Y= 14,2644+(-3802,27x). The coefficient of determination (R2)= 0,002 states 0,2 % of the abundance of planktonic diatoms is influenced by oil content and the rest is influenced by other environmental factors. Correlation coefficient (r) = 0,053, so the relationship of total oil content with the abundance of planktonic diatoms is very weak

Abstract

Plastic waste can be found everywhere, including in the Koto Panjang Dam. As the plastic waste degraded, the microplastic materials may be distributed in the water and it may be accidentally swallowed by omnivorous fishes such as  Puntius schawanafeldii.  To understand the presence of the microplastic materials in the fish stomach, a research has been conducted in December 2020 - February 2021. The number of P.  schawanafeldii captured was 30 using fish net in 3-5 inch mesh size. The fish was dissected and the stomach was removed. Then the stomach content was added with 10% KOH andwas incubated for 2 weeks to delute the organic materials. Then was investigated under a binocular microscope to find out the microplastic materials. Results shown the type of microplastic present in the stomach of P. schawanafeldiiwas namely film, fibre, and fragment. The most common type of microplastic found was film, followed by fragments and fibre. The abundance of microplastic in the stomach of P.  schwanafeldii was around 2 – 15,8 particles/fish
