Abstract

Biodiversity can act as an indicator of the ecological system and as a medium for knowing species changes. Insects are living things in a world that has a high species diversity. One insect that has a functional role in the ecosystem is ants. The purpose of this study was to calculate and analyze diversity of the types of ants in four types of ecosystems and analyze the effect of habitat characteristics on the abundance of ants. Ant sampling using the hand sorting method was taken from the soil and litter parts in four ecosystems, namely secondary forest, ulin stands, oil palm plantations, and rubber stands in Sultan Thaha Syaifuddin Forest Park Batanghari District, Jambi Province. The results showed a total of 940 ants were obtained, from 296 individuals in Secondary Forest, 198 individuals in oil palm plantations, 307 individuals in ulin stand, 139 individuals in rubber stand. Ants are more commonly found in parts of the soil than litter. The highest ant diversity in the soil and litter is found in secondary forest. Environmental factors that influence the presence of ants in each ecosystem are soil temperature and thickness of litter. Keywords: ants, biodiversity, ecosystems, hand sorting, tahura.

Abstract

Forest fire is one of the most common forest disturbances. The losses incurred will continue to increase if there is no control efforts are taken. Forest fires in KPH Sumedang in 2014 occur as many as ten times with varied sites including Tomo Utara, Ujung Jaya, Cadas Pangeran, and Tomo, therefore it is necessary to analyze the causes of fire and forest fire control efforts need to be undertaken. This research was conducted by using data triangulation method, and qualitative descriptive analysis. The results showed the cause of the fire due to factors surrounding community activities include forest clearance of land, cigarette butts and land clearing by burning. Forest fire suppression facilities and infrastructure available at KPH Sumedang still do not meet the requirements set forth in LHK Regulation No. 32 of 2016, it is concluded that the efforts already taken to overcome forest fire in KPH Sumedang is not optimal. Abstract

Forest and land fires in Riau province generally occur on peatlands. This is due to the large area of peatlands and intensive land conversion. Peat fires result in high PM 2.5 pollutant content, as happened on Rupat Island, Meranti Islands. Rupat Island has a history of repeated cases of forest and land fires in 2015 and 2019. This study aims to analyze the background of the causes of forest and land fires on Rupat Island, Riau Province. The research was carried out through several stages, namely data collection, data processing and data analysis. Forest fires on Rupat Island caused PM 2.5 content in February and March to have values above the PM 2.5 content threshold. Based on the results of the study, it is known that the background causes of forest and land fires on Rupat Island, Riau, are caused by poor canal management, damaged peat conditions and the influence of the arrival of El Nino. This is the cause of the widespread forest and land fires on Rupat Island. Keywords: forest fires, peat land, Rupat island

Abstract

Peat swamp forests in Indonesia have an important role as a water provider, water storage, carbon storage, and as a place to live for flora and fauna. Terentang (Campnosperma auriculata) and mendarahan (Knema laurina) are some of the main trees in peat swamp ecosystem. This research aims to determaine stand structure and distribution of terentang and mendarahan species in peat swamp forests. The research was conducted at Sebangau National Park and Sungai Bram Itam Peatland Protected Forest using the vegetation analysis method with a plot size of 100 m x 100 m, divided into sub-plots size 20 m x 20 m, and used for data collection for trees with size ≥ 10 cm. The results in Sebangau National Park was 115 individuals of terentang, 10 individuals of mendarahan and total of all species was 1043 individuals. while in the Sungai Bram Itam Peatland Protected Forest was 5 individuals of terentang, 21 individuals of mendarahan and total of all species was 543 individuals. The stand structure at both locations classified as normal. The spreading pattern of Terentang and mendarahan trees is a uniform distribution pattern. Abstract

Iler plant (Coleus artopurporeus L benth) is a plant that was originally cultivated as an ornamental plant and then developed as a medicinal plant because it contains flavonoids and anthocyanins. Drought stress is a major environmental problem that causes various changes in plant morphological, metabolic and physiological functions. Utilization of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi (AMF) is an effort to support the growth and development of iler plants in drought stress conditions. This study aims to determine the effect of AMF inoculation on the growth of iler plants under drought stress conditions, determine the optimal level of drought stress for ilher plant growth, and determine the best interaction between AMF inoculation and the level of drought stress on the growth of iler plants. The design used in this study was a completely randomized factorial 2-factor design. The first factor is AMF inoculation consisting of 2 levels, namely, without administration of AMF inoculum and AMF inoculum administration. The second factor is drought stress consists of 3 levels namely, 100% field capacity, 90% drought stress, and 45% drought stress. The results showed the effectiveness of the AMF inoculum test was able to increase the growth of iler plants based on parameters plant height, number of leaves, number of branches, leaf area, root length, root volume, root dry weight, number of spores and root infection. The optimal level of drought stress for iler plant growth is 90% drought stress, it is based on the parameters of plant height, number of leaves, number of branches, leaf area, root length, number of spores and root infection. There is the best interaction between AMF inoculation and 90% drought stress level on the growth of iler plants. These interactions can increase plant height, leaf area, number of spores and root infection. Keywords: arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (FMA), drought stress, iler plants

Abstract

Jirak (Symplocos fasciculata Zoll.) is one of the native species in the Gunung Halimun Salak National Park, especially in the Kawah Ratu resort. This plant can be used as a natural coloring agent, in addition to plant parts such as leaves can also be eaten and used as medicine. Because of the benefits of jirak, this plant is considered important to be cultivated. This study aims to analyze the density and distribution pattern of jirak (Symplocos fasciculata Zoll.) at Kawah Ratu Resort, Gunung Halimun Salak National Park. Data collection was carried out in two blocks located at the Kawah Ratu Resort of Mount Halimun Salak National Park, namely the Leles block and the Pamengpeuk block using the single plot method. The results showed that jirak distribution pattern in the two observation blocks was grouped. Keywords: Distribution, Jirak, Kawah Ratu Resort, Symplocos fasciculata Zoll., Gunung Halimun Salak National Park
