Abstract

In the Minangkabau area, farming is the main source of livelihood for the Minang community, in addition to mining such as gold and iron ore mining. Pepper is a crop that is loved by the world for all time. Produced in Minangkabau and distributed outside the region and even abroad through the mouths of the Bukit Barisan river to the East Coast. The Rantau area was used as a political arena between world powers at that time. In the economic aspect, Minangkabau has long been known as a trading city centered on the west coast (rantau coast) and the east coast (downstream). Since the 14th century the coastal region has played an important role in the gold trade. The port for exporting gold and pepper was popular among West Asian traders, such as Barus, Tiku, Pariaman and Bayang in the south. They traded it in large quantities. This coastal city became a stopover port for foreign traders to the island of Java. From the explanation above, it can be understood that the economic history of the Minangkabau people has been going on for quite a long time, so in reviewing the economic history of the Minangkabau people, the author focuses on aspects of the economic process carried out by the Minang people, which includes aspects of how the Minangkabau people produce something that can be utilized. production), then the distribution aspect here will tell how the Minangkabau community sells the goods they have produced, and finally which areas consume these Minangkabau products, which are used by other communities or the Minangkabau community itself.

Abstract

The increasingly significant influence of Islam in the Archipelago was marked by the establishment of a number of sultanates. It is time for the existence of the sultanate to be interpreted as evidence of political power. The track of Islam in the Archipelago, political power was achieved after great successes in building ECONOMIC POWER, EDUCATION, CULTURAL-INTELLECTUAL NETWORKS. Therefore, the track of Islam in the Archipelago, is not an event that is considered strange. Until the 17th century AD, there were even a number of sultanates on the islands of Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku. The spread of the existence of a number of these sultanates in a relay as evidence of the results of the exemplary performances of a number of sultanates that had existed before. May we all never forget the existence of the Sultanate of Jeumpa (± 776 AD-880 AD), Peureulak (standing ± 840 AD), Samudera Pasai (± 1267 AD), Demak (1468 AD), Aceh Darussalam (1496 AD), Ternate (Maluku). ) rulers converted to Islam in 1460, Cirebon (founded 1479 AD), Banten (1526 AD), Banjar (founded 1520 AD). From the coast of Aceh-Malacca-Sumatra, Islam then spread in various directions east to areas on the north coast of Java such as Surabaya, Gresik, Tuban, then continued eastward to areas of Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Ternate and Tidore in the Maluku islands, Papua, Nusa Tenggara, Bali. The approach used in this paper is a historical approach by utilizing study materials from historical literature. In compiling historical facts, guided by logical arrangement of frameworks in chronological order. The conclusion is that, thanks to the wealth and social forces empowered by Muslim communities in various places in the Archipelago, they can play political roles in political entities as evidenced by the birth of a number of Sultanates. This historical fact, at least strengthens Anthony Reid's theory, that the maritime economy is an indicator of maritime trade that unites trade routes with the formation of port cities as international trade routes.

(2) Although there are still zuriyat who are engaged in trading, there has been a shift in the eight sites, such as some who work as teachers, lecturers, health workers and work in companies. This shift is due to the desire to live, the desire to get a job and the desire to gain social status. This desire is supported by internal and external factors. Internal factors come from religious teachings and Malay philosophy. External factors are the development of science and technology, education and other family success motivations.

Minangkabau people, both men and women, have long been known to have trade skills. The ability to trade is supported by the number of traditional markets in Minangkabau called feed, almost in all nagari. In traditional markets, women dominate as traders. This study looked at women who trade in the Baso market. The results of the study found that there are several factors that support women to become traffickers, namely cultural factors, family support, infrastructure, small capital, access to financial sources and security.
