Abstract

This study aims to describe the influence of transformational leadership, work engagement, and organizational culture on the performance of employees of the Public Works and Spatial Planning Office of North Sumatra Province. The data analysis method uses a descriptive data analysis method with a quantitative approach. The population and sample in this study were 62 employees which were determined based on the saturated sampling technique method. The data collection techniques in this study are observation, documentation, and questionnaires with a Likert Scale data measurement scale. The data analysis technique used validity, relibiality, classical classical assumption test, multiple linear regression analysis, and hypothesis test. Data processing uses SPSS Version 20.0. The results of the study prove that transformational leadership, work engagement and organizational culture have a positive and significant effect on employee performance. Simultaneously, the results of transformational leadership, work engagement and organizational culture have a positive and significant effect on the performance of employees at the Public Works and Spatial Planning Office of North Sumatra Province. With a value of Fcount (79.497) > Ftable (2.76) and a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05.

Abstract

The problem currently faced by Indonesian coffee in the international market is the low quality of coffee generally produced by community plantations. The quality of coffee is still low because post-harvest processing still produces random coffee, namely coffee beans produced with very simple methods and facilities, relatively high water content and still mixed with other ingredients in relatively large quantities. To improve the quality of coffee beans, the application of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) was chosen as a framework for analyzing coffee quality, because GAP plays a crucial role in ensuring sustainable and quality agricultural practices. This study aims to determine the extent to which GAP is applied to Arabica coffee cultivation in Simalungun Regency and to find out that the application of GAP can improve coffee quality in accordance with the Indonesian Coffee SNI. The research method used is a descriptive method. The basis for selecting the research location was determined intentionally (purposive method) in Simalungun Regency. The sample in this study was coffee farmers totaling 75 respondents. Data analysis was carried out descriptively and multiple linear regression tests. From the results of the study, it can be concluded that coffee farmers in Simalungun Regency have applied GAP in cultivating coffee plants, where the highest GAP application is found in plant varieties with a score of 4.04 and planting coffee at an altitude that is in accordance with a score of 4, while the lowest GAP application is found in harvesting techniques with a score of 3.55, where there are still many farmers who harvest without considering factors that can affect the quality of the coffee beans produced. The water content of coffee beans in Simalungun Regency is around 11.27%. This is in accordance with the SNI 01-2907-2008 standard, namely a maximum water content of 12.5%. The defect value of koi beans in Simalungun Regency is predominantly quality 2, which is 56% and quality 1 is 33.33%. Coffee beans with quality 1 and 2 have good quality. The size of coffee beans in Simalungun Regency is predominantly medium, which is 69.33% and large size is 26.67%. Partially, the application of Good Agricultural Practices, namely plant varieties, coffee land suitability, altitude, fertilization, pest and disease control have a significant effect on the quality of coffee beans, while harvesting techniques do not have a significant effect on the quality of coffee beans. Simultaneously, the application of Good Agricultural Practices (plant varieties, coffee land suitability, altitude, fertilization, pest and disease control and harvesting techniques have a significant effect on the quality of coffee beans.

Abstract

This research has been conducted in Simalingkar B, Medan Tuntungan Sub-district, Medan, North Sumatra with flat topography. This research started from May to August 2025. This research was supervised by Prof. Dr. Ir. Asmanizar, MP. As the chief supervisor and Prof. Dr. Ir. Nurhayati, MP. as a supervising member. This research is to determine the effect of flowers of tagetes erecta and zinnia sp as refugia plants on the presence of natural enemies of chili plants in controlling whitefly pests and tough varieties, sios tavi and local to whitefly pest attacks. This study used the Separate Plots Design (RPT) research method with two factors, namely refugia and varieties. The first factor consists of 3 levels, namely: R0 = control, R1 = tagetes erecta, R2 = zinnia sp. The second factor of varieties consists of 3 levels, namely: V1 = tough, V2 = sios tavi, R3 = local. The parameters observed were the intensity of Bemisia tabaci attack, natural enemies and production per plot. The results showed that refugia had a significant effect on production per plot, the variety treatment had no significant effect on the intensity of Bemisia tabaci attack and production per plot. The interaction of varieties and refugia had no significant effect on all observations.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of Human Resources, Community Participation and Leadership Behavior on the Success of Village Fund Management with Goal Commitment as a Moderator. The respondents of this study were 54 people obtained through purposive sampling, from a total of 124 respondents who were village staff in 5 villages in Langsa Baro District, Langsa City. The number of respondents was obtained using the Slovin formula. The data obtained were analyzed using the Partial Least Square (PLS) analysis technique. The equation models analyzed were the outer model and inner model. The results showed that Community Participation, Leader Behavior and Goal Commitment had a significant effect on Village Fund Management, while Human Resource Quality did not have a significant effect on the Success of Village Fund Management. Furthermore, goal commitment was unable to moderate the influence of human resources, community participation and leader behavior on the success of village fund management.

Abstract

The study aims to identify the factors influencing the intention to adopt Sharia Online Trading System (SOTS) by stock investors in Indonesia. It uses structured questionnaires for data collection. Moreover, the data is obtained from the sharia stock investors using SOTS for stock trading. Out of 385 questionnaires completed by the respondents, only 336 were usable. The data was then processed using SEM Amos. The results of the study show that perceived usefulness, social norm and relative advantage have a positive and significant effect on the adoption of SOTS by stock investors. However, perceived ease of use and perceived riskiness do not have a significant effect on the adoption of SOTS by stock investors. For more diverse results, future researchers can expand the scope of respondents. Another factor, i.e., religiosity, can be used as a moderation in future research; it also needs to be explored by adding other variables such as trust, perceived cost, etc. This study provides some information about the factors influencing the intention to adopt SOTS by stock investors. In addition, the results of this study can be a reference for stock brokers in developing SOTS to attract more stock investors to adopt SOTS. Furthermore, for stock market regulators, they can make policies and regulations to encourage the increased use of SOTS. According to the literatures read by the author, there is no previous research discussing the factors that influence the adoption of SOTS in the sharia stock market.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of training and development on teacher performance with job satisfaction as a mediating variable among teachers at Namira Islamic School Medan. The urgency of this research lies in the strategic role of teachers in improving education quality and the importance of continuous professional training to support optimal performance. This study employs an associative method with a quantitative approach. The population consists of 114 teachers, with 89 respondents selected as samples using proportionate stratified random sampling and Slovin's formula. The results indicate that training and development have a positive and significant impact on teacher performance. Furthermore, training and development positively influences teacher job satisfaction. Job satisfaction also shows a positive effect on improving teacher performance. Moreover, job satisfaction is proven to mediate the relationship between training and development and teacher performance. These findings highlight the importance of implementing well-structured and relevant training programs, as well as fostering a supportive work environment, to comprehensively enhance teacher performance.

Abstract

The growth and development of health care facilities require hospitals to be able to retain quality nursing staff to ensure the continuity of optimal services. Medan Adventist Hospital as one of the private health institutions in the Medan area faces challenges in maintaining the number and quality of competent and highly committed nurses. Therefore, this study aims to identify factors that influence nurse retention and develop effective strategies using the SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) approach. The research method used is qualitative with a case study approach, collecting data through in-depth interviews, direct observation, and distributing questionnaires to nurses and hospital management. The data obtained were analyzed using SWOT analysis to determine internal strengths, internal weaknesses, external opportunities, and external threats in the context of nursing staff retention at Medan Adventist Hospital. The results of the analysis show that the main strengths of the hospital include adequate service facilities and competency development programs, while its weaknesses include uncompetitive incentive levels and working conditions that result in job dissatisfaction. On the opportunity side, technological developments and the public's need for quality health services open up opportunities for innovation and quality improvement, while threats come from other competitors and high levels of workforce turnover. Based on these results, several strategies are recommended, including improving incentive and benefit programs, improving working conditions and work environment, improving competency and training on an ongoing basis, and strengthening communication and involvement of nurses in decision making. This strategy is expected to increase nurse motivation and loyalty so as to strengthen the retention of nursing staff at Medan Adventist Hospital and ultimately improve the quality of health services provided to the community.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the added value of fish cracker production and assess the feasibility of the business in South Sibolga Subdistrict, Sibolga City. The research location was selected purposively, involving two fish cracker producers as respondents, identified using a census method. The analysis utilized the Hayami value-added method and the Revenue-Cost (R/C) ratio to evaluate feasibility. Results show that the added value generated from fish cracker processing reached Rp 225,721.14 per kilogram, with a value-added ratio of 55.22%. The monthly income from the business amounted to Rp 5,573,076.35. The R/C ratio was 1.74, indicating that the fish cracker business is financially feasible. These findings highlight the potential of small-scale fish processing industries to enhance household income and promote local economic development.

Abstract

This study investigates the role of dynamic capabilities, specifically absorptive capability and adaptive capability, in enhancing sustainable performance, with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy as a mediating variable. Using an empirical approach, data were collected from 100 employees of palm oil companies operating in Medan, Indonesia, through a full sampling method. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS for descriptive statistics and SmartPLS for Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results confirm the significance of all five hypothesized relationships, indicating that both absorptive capability and adaptive capability have a positive effect on sustainable performance, with ESG strategy serving as a mediating variable. Among the two capabilities, adaptive capability has the strongest direct and indirect influence, while absorptive capability shows the weakest effect. These findings provide empirical support for the dynamic capability framework and confirm the validity and reliability of the measurement instruments used. This study contributes to the literature on sustainable business practices in emerging markets, particularly within resource-based industries. Additionally, it offers practical implications for corporate managers, policymakers, and stakeholders by highlighting the strategic value of enhancing dynamic capabilities to drive ESG integration and long-term sustainable performance.

Abstract

Humayra Windayani Rangkuti, Identification of Fruit Flies (Diptera: Tephritidae) in Several Districts in North Sumatra Province. Supervised by Prof. Dr. Ir. Nur Hayati, MP and Dr. Ir. Rahmad Setia Budi, M.Sc. Fruit flies (Diptera: Tephritidae) are one of the economically important pests that attract world attention. Fruit flies are generally polyphagous with a wide host range. The presence of fruit flies is a limiting factor for the export of agricultural products, especially fruits and vegetables. Fruits infested with fruit flies will rot and their growth will become abnormal. The damage caused can reach 90%-100%. Sampling of fruit flies using the collection method of trapping using a lure or attractant Methyl eugenol (ME). The study was conducted in several districts in the North Sumatra Region. Fruit flies were identified at the Integrated Laboratory of the North Sumatra Animal, Fish, and Plant Quarantine Center (BBKHIT Sumut). The research was conducted from May to December 2024. The results of the trap installation found 8 species of fruit flies of the genus Bactrocera, subgenus Bactrocera and Zeugodacus with the names of the species found being B. carambolae, B. dorsalis, B. albistrigata, B. (Zeugodacus) tau, B. umbrosa, B. (Z.) caudata, B. raiensis, B. verbasifolie, B. (Z.) cucurbitae. Information on species and status of fruit flies in North Sumatra can be used as a reference in anticipating the spread of fruit flies and how to control them on agricultural products with high economic value. Making a list of pest species (pest list) and description of morphological characteristics of OPT, especially fruit flies, is important in trade negotiations. One of the important roles of quarantine is to prevent the entry and exit of OPT/OPTK including fruit flies from one country to another or from one area to another within the country, or out of the territory of the Republic of Indonesia through local and international trade activities.
