Abstract

One of the causes of canker sores and bad breath is the presence of fungus in the oral cavity. This can be overcome by gargling using mouthwash. Research has been carried out on the formulation of mouthwash preparations from ethanol extract of carrot (Daucus carota L.) tubers as an antifungal against the growth of Candida albicans. Objectives: The aim of this study was to see the antifungal activity of carrot tuber extract mouthwash preparations. Methods: This research is a type of laboratory experimental research using the paper disc diffusion method on agar media to see the antifungal activity of carrot root extract mouthwash preparations. Carrot tuber extract mouthwash was made into four formulas, namely F0 (preparation without extract), F1 (5% carrot extract), F2 (15% carrot extract) and F3 (30% carrot extract). Evaluation of mouthwash preparations includes examination of organoleptic, pH, viscosity and stability. Results: indicate that mouthwash preparations can provide antifungal activity against the growth of Candida albicans. The diameter of the inhibition zone obtained at concentrations of 5% (2.9 mm), 15% (3.9 mm) and 30% (5.3 mm). All mouthwash formulations have a weak category of inhibitory power. The results of organoleptic evaluation, pH, viscosity and stability of mouthwash preparations gave good results, were stable and fulfilled the requirements for mouthwash preparations. Conclusion is that the ethanol extract of carrot root can be formulated into mouthwash and has weak antifungal activity.

Abstract

Background; Dandruff is a disorder in the form of excessive flaking of dead skin on the scalp, sometimes accompanied by itching and inflammation. One of the causes of dandruff is the Malassezia furfur fungus. Neem leaves contain the main active ingredients of neem, namely azadirachtin, meliantriol, nimbin, nimbidin and salanin, substances that are known to be effective as insecticides. Objective; The aim of the study was to determine the formulation of anti-dandruff shampoo preparations of ethanol extract of neem leaves (Azadirachta indica A. Juss) and Activity Test against Fungus (Malassezia furfur). Method; The research method was experimental, which included taking plants, making simplicia, formula for neem leaf extract shampoo (2%, 4%, 6% and 8%), evaluating preparations and testing antifungal activity. Results; The results of the study were based on organoleptic tests, the preparations were white and brown in color, had a distinctive neem aroma and were viscous in shape; there is no coarse grain in the preparation; pH of preparations F0 (6.0), F1 (5.5), F2 (5.3), F3 (5.3) and F4 (5.2); foam height tests F0 (8 cm), F1 (8.5 cm), F2 (8.7 cm), F3 (9 cm) and F4 (9.5 cm); there is no itching, redness and swelling on the skin of the volunteers; stability test does not change color, aroma and shape of the preparation; antifungal test preparations F0 (0 cm), F1 (11.65 cm), F2 (12.73 cm), F3 (12.86 cm), F4 (13.61 cm) and K+ (22.8 cm). Conclusion; The conclusion of the research is that the ethanol extract of neem leaves (Azadirachta indica A. Juss) can be formulated as a shampoo that meets the requirements for physical evaluation and inhibits the growth of fungus (Malassezia furfur) at a concentration of 8% (13.61 mm) best.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between the knowledge of postpartum mothers about breast care and the smooth production of breast milk in postpartum mothers at UPT Puskesmas Lumban Julu, Toba Regency in 2023. The type of research used was analytic observational with a cross sectional design. Sampling used Total Sampling so that a sample of all postpartum mothers at the Lumban Julu Health Center UPT totaled 32 samples. Data analysis used the Chi-Square test. The results of the study of 32 postpartum mothers showed that 15 respondents (46.9%) had good knowledge and experienced smooth breastfeeding, 3 respondents (9.4%) had good knowledge and experienced non-fluent breastfeeding. While respondents with less knowledge and experienced smooth breastfeeding were 5 people (15.6%), and respondents with less knowledge and experienced non-fluent breastfeeding were 14 people (43.8%). Chi-square test results with p-value = 0.006 <? (? = 0.05). The conclusion of this study states that there is a significant relationship between knowledge of breast care and the smoothness of breastfeeding at UPT Puskesmas Lumban Julu, Toba Regency in 2023. Health workers at UPT Puskesmas Lumban Julu are expected to further improve their health promotion regarding the importance of breast care for postpartum mothers in improving the smoothness of breastfeeding so as to improve the quality of health services and quality at the research site.

Abstract

Giving exclusive breastfeeding to babies also means giving big gifts in the form of the best immunization, complete nutrition, healthy drinks and life water to babies. In the process of exclusive breastfeeding, there are many disturbances which in principle are rooted in a lack of knowledge, self-confidence, family support and the surrounding environment. The low knowledge of mothers about the benefits of breastfeeding and lactation management from pregnancy to delivery will have a good impact on the mother's attitude which can influence behavior towards exclusive breastfeeding. Based on the results of the initial survey conducted by the researchers, it was shown that of the 7 mothers interviewed, there were 5 mothers who did not breastfeed their babies 6-12 months. This study aims to determine the relationship between knowledge, attitudes and actions of mothers who have babies 6-12 months by giving exclusive breastfeeding in the Highland Village, East Binjai District in 2023. This research is an analytic study with a cross-sectional study design. The population in this study were all mothers who had babies over 6-12 months in the Highland Village, East Binjai District, totaling 37 people. The research sample is used as the total sampling. Research data processing consists of editing, coding, entry, cleaning, tabulating. Data analysis consisted of univariate and bivariate with the Chi Square test. The results showed that there was a relationship between mother's knowledge and exclusive breastfeeding (p = 0.002). There is a relationship between mother's actions and exclusive breastfeeding (p = 0.001). Therefore, it is important for mothers of babies to take the time to participate in counseling held by health workers at the Puskesmas about the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding for babies so that they can increase the knowledge and attitudes of baby mothers in giving exclusive breastfeeding to babies.
