Abstract

High incidence of communicable diseases such as the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic can be prevented with a proper hand washing practice amongst other measures. This cross-sectional survey was designed to access the knowledge and practice of hand washing among secondary school students in Otukpo, Nigeria. This study was conducted among 100 students from four selected secondary schools in Otukpo using a simple random sampling method with informed consents from participants. The data obtained through a questionnaire and observational check list are presented in simple statistical tables. The results of the survey showed that 57% of the respondents got their knowledge from home, 41% and 2% got theirs from school and other sources respectively. Insufficient hand-washing supply (37%), forgetfulness (25%), time pressure (23%) and low level of knowledge on hand-washing (15%) constitute the hindrances to hand-washing by correspondents’ responses. This indicates that the students have average knowledge of hand-washing but showed inefficient practice due to the aforementioned factors. This is relevant with the control of the spread of contagious diseases.

Abstract

Aedes aegypti larvae that are not monitored will develop into adult mosquitoes, the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which can cause dengue fever. DHF disease transmission by Aedes aegypti mosquito larvae. The solution is to break the vector life cycle, by killing Aedes aegypti larvae, which have been using fogging, abate powder, which has side effects on the environment. Researchers are looking for a safe and effective natural larvicide solution, because researchers saw the number of papaya plants planted by residents in their yards. Papaya plants contain the enzyme papain, the protease effect of papain can kill Aedes aegypti larvae. This study aims to determine the effect of mortality of aedes aegypti larvae by immersing papaya flowers in water reservoirs. The research location is in Curup Tengah Village, the number of houses surveyed as many as 36 water reservoirs. Observational research, cross sectional study design. Larva survey using the single larva method. Survey data were analyzed using the chi-square test. The results of the Chi-square analysis showed that the value of P = 0.04 <? 0.05. So Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted, it means that there is a statistically significant relationship between papaya flower immersion on the mortality of Aedes aegypti larvae. so that the community plays an active role in eradicating Aedes aegypti larvae, through activities to get used to soaking papaya flowers and pouring them into water reservoirs as needed.

Abstract

In stroke, CT Scan is a standard gold examination to distinguish infarction from bleeding. The stereology principle of the Cavalieri method has been used in several studies that calculate the volume of ischemia and the volume of bleeding in the radiological photos of stroke patients. The availability of stereology software in Indonesia is still limited. Measurement of the volume of ischemia of the brain is still using a manual way that is with a grid of points. The accuracy of this technique still needs to be proven. This study aims to find out the accuracy of cavalieri method in measuring the volume of brain hemorrhage in CT Scan photos of stroke patients. The study consisted of two groups. Group A is the volume of bleeding that comes from CT scan photos without the Cavalieri method. Group B is the volume of bleeding derived from CT scan photos with the Cavalieri method. The difference in bleeding volume was analyzed using t-test. The results of the study did not differ in measuring the volume of bleeding between the CT Scan method and the Cavalieri method (p > 0.05). This indicates that the result of measuring the volume of bleeding by Cavalieri method is the same as the measurement result using CT Scan.

Abstract

Background: Data of Riskesdas 2018, cancer prevalence in Indonesia showed an increase. The highest prevalence was in Yogyakarta which showed result 4,8/1000 population. New cervical cancer cases in Yogyakarta ranked second. The different prevalence of HPV between female sexual workers (FSW) and general population was 42,7%, higher than the general population. Objective: This study aims to determine the factors that influence the early detection of cervical cancer in FSW in Gedongtengen Public Health Center Area in 2020. Methods: This research used an observational analytic with cross sectional approach. The research subjects were 40 female sexual workers (FSW) in Gedongtengen Public Health Center area, with the data technique taken was random sampling technique. The research instrument was a questionnaire. Data analysis used Chi-square test, Fisher exact test, and logistic regression. Results: Variables associated with early detection behavior of cervical cancer were knowledge (p-value=0,001), attitude (p-value=0,008), and access to information (p-value =0,006). While age (p-value=0,705), education (p-value=0,510), income (p-value=0,709), length of work (p-value=0,642), and age at first sexual intercourse (p-value=0,594) were not related to early detection of cervical cancer. The most influential factor was attitude (OR=20,598) CI 95% (2,585-164,110). Conclusion: Factors affecting early detection behavior of cervical cancer were knowledge, attitudes, and access to information. The dominant factor was attitude of the respondent.

Abstract

The competence of midwives in early detection of pregnancy risk and prevention of stunting is an important factor to improve health status. The competence of midwives contributes to the improvement of maternal health status by 79%. In addition to the ability of midwives, the independence of pregnant women is also needed in improving the quality of life of children. In the era of the pandemic, access to information is increasingly limited, so it is necessary to develop information technology that is easily accessible by all groups. The purpose of this article is obtaining a theoretical study of information to improve the competence of midwives and obtaining a theoretical study of information technology to increase the independence of pregnant women in early detection of pregnancy risk and stunting prevention. The design used is a literature review. Articles are collected using search engines such as EBSCO, Science direct, and Proquest. The criteria for the articles used are those published from 2015 to 2021. Based on the articles collected, the results show that Utilization of information technology can be used for various things. The target of information technology can penetrate various circles. The need for information technology today is unavoidable and must be improved. Website-based application is one of the information technology that can be accessed by anyone who has the internet and its use is easy. The conclusion of the study is that information technology can be used in early detection of pregnancy risk and stunting prevention.

Abstract

Anemia is the most common medical problem in the world, especially in developing countries. Adolescent girls are one of the groups that are prone to anemia. The target of the anemia prevention program has been developed to reach young women as a strategic effort in an effort to break the knot of nutritional problems. This study aims to determine the effect of body image and knowledge of stunting on the incidence of anemia in adolescent girls in Matang Seulimeng Village, Langsa City in 2021. This type of research is quantitative with a Cross Sectional approach. The population in this study were young women in Matang Seulimeng Village, Langsa City with a total sample of 62 people. Bivariate analysis using Chi Square test. The results showed that there was a significant relationship between body image and the incidence of anemia in young women in Matang Seulimeng Village, Langsa City with a p value = 0.01, there was a significant relationship between knowledge of stunting and the incidence of anemia in young women in Matang Seulimeng Village, Langsa City with a value of p value = 0.048. It is hoped that the health office, puskesmas, community nurses and village midwives will provide counseling about anemia in adolescent girls and prevention of stunting from an early age.
