Cohesion is a semantic concept that displays the relationship of meaning between text elements. The relationship occurs because the meaning of one element of the text depends on other elements. Without the cohesion of the discourse, the text is not considered communicative and every element in it is interconnected. Coherence in sentences or paragraphs is the relationship between elements contained in a text. This research is descriptive qualitative research. This study uses a description of eighth-grade students of SMP N 15 Yogyakarta. The subjects of this study are the sentences in the writing of students' essays description. The object of this study is a marker of cohesion and coherence relationships used by students, including types, and how variations in their use. The design of this research is descriptive qualitative. Data collection techniques are done by reading and note-taking techniques. The method of analysis uses descriptive qualitative analysis methods. The instrument used in this study was a human instrument. The results of this study indicate that the total number of errors found was 10 errors consisting of six cohesion errors and four coherence errors. Keywords: cohesion, coherence, description essays

The aim of the study is to improve the students’ skill in learning English especially writing descriptive text. This research belongs to experimental research. Based on the observations, the problems found in teaching writing were ineffective strategy and instruction, language structure, vocabulary and lack of motivation. The data were obtained by interviewing the tenth grade students of SMK Yusuf Abdussatar Kediri Lombok Barat, holding the discussion with the English teacher, and doing observations in the English teaching and learning process. The instruments of the study were pre-test and post-test, observation guidelines, and interview guidelines. Qualitative and quantitative methods were used to collect the data. The data were analyzed from the field notes, interview transcript and the result of the pre-test and post-test. The result of the study showed that the students’ writing descriptive text in English teaching and learning process improved through mind maps. The result of the research showed that the mean score of post-test was higher than that of the mean score of the pre-test. The mean score of pre-test was (62.78) and the mean score of post-test was (75. 89). Thus, there was an increasing point of 13. 11. Keywords: mind-map, writing, descriptive text.

Flags are a symbol of a group that becomes a sacred marker. Even though it forms a sign, the image cannot be considered as a sign, but has a high philosophical value that makes the owner willing to struggle to maintain the symbol. Research has a high urgency value because Indonesian people still consider all symbols that have sacred values and are still on average all types of symbols. The data in this study is a flag that reads tawhid pronunciation. Qualitative semiotic methods are interpretive in analyzing data and using semiotic theory C.S. Pierce as a surgical instrument. The result, not all monotheistic memorization has the same meaning. That is because each flag has a different history and philosophy.Keywords: flag, monotheism, semiotics

The Objectives of this study were to get empirical evidence about the difference in reading achievement between students who were taught English by using Video and those who were not. The design of the study was a factorial design of 2 X 2. The samples of the study were taken from the eighth-grade students of SMPN 11 Kota Tangerang Selatan. The design used to take the samples of the study was Nonequivalent control group design. There were two classes that became sample classes, they were 8.1 class and 8.2 class, each class has forty-one students so there were eighty-two students as a sample, 8.1 class was as a controlled class while 8.2 class was as an experimental class. The experimental class was given a video while the controlled class was not. There were two kinds of instruments used for the research. The first instrument was a test and the second one was a questionnaire. The test was aimed at measuring students’ reading comprehension while the questionnaire was aimed at measuring students’ reading interest. The results of the test were in the form of a gained score which was analyzed by using Anova with the significance level is 5%. It was found that the mean score for experimental class was 23 and for controlled class was 22, meanwhile, the modus score of the experimental class was 22 and for control, class was 20 and then the statistical computation on the gained score revealed that the significance value of Video, Reading Interest and both interactions toward reading comprehension had significance value lower than 0.05 (>0.05) while the t-table value 5%. This research is titled Personality Types of Main Characters in Novelof Two Sides of Sayfullan's Literature Psychology Study. The purpose of this research is to find out the personality type of the main character in Sayfullan's Two Sides novel. The subject of this research is Sayfullan's Two-Side Novel. The object of research study is the type of personality and main character. The research data collection method is reading notes. The research instrument is the data card. The research data analysis technique is descriptive qualitative. The results showed a dominant personality type, Melancholis. This research can be used as an alternative teaching material for Indonesian subjects in class XII high school based on curriculum 3013, revised 2018 through KD 3.8 and 4.8, namely interpreting the author's view of life in the novel that is read and analyzing the contents and presenting the results of the author's view interpretation. Penelitian ini membahas afiks pembentuk verba resiprokal di dalam bahasa Arab. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikanafiks-afiks pembentuk verba resiprokal di dalam bahasa Arab serta mendeskripsikan proses pembentukan verba resiprokal di dalam bahasa Arab. Penelitian ini adalah penelitin deskriptif kualitatif dengan metode simak dan lanjutan yaitu teknik catat. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan terdapat tiga afiks yang berfungsi dalam membentuk verba resiprokal di dalam bahasa Arab yaitu afiks alif, afiks ta dan alif, dan afiks hamzah dan ta.Ketiga afiks ini melekat pada bentuk dasar kata kerja triliteral bahasa Arab sehingga dapat menghasilkan verba bermakna resiprokal. Novels are long essays of prose containing a series of stories of a person's life with those around him highlighting the character and nature of each actor. This research was conducted with a qualitative descriptive method. The object of this research is novel sentences which include themes and facts of the story. The data in this study are excerpts from Ummuki's Dari Tanah Haram ke Ranah Minang. The theme contained in the novel is "The struggle of a woman to face the bitter life". The flow used by the author is a back and forth flow. The characters that often appear are emotion, concern, and do not care. The setting contained in the novel includes the setting of time, setting, and setting. The setting of the place used such as in rooms, orphanages, and at Guyarat.
