Abstract

Hand hygiene compliance is a fundamental aspect of nursing practice and plays a critical role in preventing healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). Though literature highlight the importance of hand hygiene compliance, previous studies have not analyzed hand hygiene compliance based on nursing intervention type, especially in Indonesia. This study aims to assess the level of hand hygiene compliance among nurses at a hospital in South Sulawesi Province, based on nursing procedures outlined in the Ministry of Health Regulation No. 04 of 2022 on Technical Guidelines for Nursing Functional Positions. A descriptive quantitative design with an observational approach was employed. The study involved 57 nurses selected through quota sampling. Data were collected using a WHO-adapted hand hygiene observation sheet, documenting hand hygiene opportunities and corresponding nursing actions across three shifts: morning, afternoon, and night. Descriptive statistics, including frequencies and percentages, were used for analysis. Findings revealed that overall hand hygiene compliance among nurses was 61.30%, falling below the WHO standard of ≥85%. Notably, compliance was highest during wound care procedures, with rates ranging from 58.33% to 100%. However, adherence remained inconsistent across other nursing actions. The study concludes that while hand hygiene compliance is relatively high during wound care, consistent adherence should have been implemented across all nursing activities. This adherence aims to minimize infection risks, enhance patient safety, and ensure the delivery of high-quality nursing care.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus is a disease that occurs due to excessive blood sugar levels (hyperglycemia) in response to the inability of the pancreas to produce insulin. This study aims to determine the relationship between physical activity and diet with blood sugar levels in diabetes mellitus patients at UPT Puskesmas Tana Lili. The research design used was an analytic descriptive design with a cross sectional approach using a total sampling technique with a sample of 43 respondents. The relationship test was carried out using the chi square test with a significance level of α<0.05. The results showed that there was no relationship between physical activity and diet with blood sugar levels in diabetes mellitus patients at the UPT Puskesmas Tana Lili. This research can be an input for health workers to provide education about the importance of doing regular physical activity and maintaining a healthy diet, so as to increase physical activity and a good diet for people with diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

Hypertension is a cardiovascular disease that causes high death rates in the world. Hypertension that is not treated in the long term will cause more serious complications. One non-pharmacological treatment method uses herbal therapy, boiled water from coriander seeds. The aim of this research is to determine the effect of boiled coriander seed water on the blood pressure of hypertension sufferers in the Sajoanging Community Health Center working area. This research design uses a quantitative type of research with a quasi-experimental research design One-group pre-posttest design. The sampling technique is non-probability sampling using purposive sampling, that is, samples were taken from the population of hypertension sufferers in the Sajoanging Community Health Center working area who met the criteria of 30 respondents. Meanwhile, the analysis used was the frequency distribution test and the Wilcoxon statistical test with a significance level of ρ < α = 0.05. The results of the pre-test and post-test systolic blood pressure research given boiled water from coriander seeds showed a value of ρ = 0.001 ( ρ < α = 0.05). As well as pre-test and post-test diastolic blood pressure given boiled coriander seed water, the value obtained was ρ = 0.001 ( ρ < α = 0.05). The conclusion of this study proves that there is an effect of boiled water from coriander seeds on reducing systolic and diastolic blood pressure in hypertension sufferers in the Sajoanging Community Health Center working area, so that herbal therapy using boiled coriander seed water can be used as an alternative therapy for hypertension sufferers to control blood pressure.

Abstract

Caring for hemorrhagic stroke patients in the Critical Care Unit (ICU) requires not only intensive medical care but also a comprehensive ethical and spiritual approach, especially for Muslim patients. Hemorrhagic stroke is an emergency condition with a high mortality rate and a significant risk of spiritual distress during critical care. This study aims to analyze the application of the Maqasid Al-Shariah principles in nursing care for hemorrhagic stroke patients in the ICU as an effort to improve the quality of holistic care. The method used is a library research with a qualitative approach, through a review of scientific literature, Islamic bioethics, and relevant critical care nursing practices. The results of the study indicate that the integration of the Maqasid Al-Shariah principles—especially hifz an-nafs (protection of the soul), hifz al-aql (protection of the mind), and hifz ad-din (protection of religion)—can improve clinical and spiritual outcomes for patients, characterized by improved levels of awareness, reduced spiritual distress, and increased patient and family satisfaction. Spiritual interventions such as Quranic recitation and family collaboration have been shown to support psychological stability and ethical care, especially in the end-of-life phase. In conclusion, the application of Maqashid al-Shariah in ICU care for hemorrhagic stroke patients provides an ethical and spiritual framework that enriches critical care nursing practice and is recommended as a basis for developing Islamic value-based nursing protocols in Indonesia.
