Abstract

ABSTRACT ANALYSIS OF INTEGRATED FARMING SYSTEM BETWEEN BEEF CATTLE AND RICE PADDY IN FARMERS GROUP OF KEONG MAS AT SANGKUB DISTRICT, NORTHBOLAANG MONGONDOW REGENCY (CASE STUDY). Integrated farming system of beef cattle and rice paddy is a combination of beef cattle fattening and rice paddy managed by “Keong Mas” Farmers Group. Feces and urine of beef cattle were materials to produce an organic fertilizer and paddy rice straw can be used as feed for beef cattle. The combination of fattening beef cattle and rice paddy straw has a purpose to create minimum cost and using of potential local resources. This research purpose was to evaluate the business profit and cost efficiency of “Keong Mas” integrated farming system. Research method used was study of case and observation as the information for collecting data. The result showed that profit of un-integrated fattening beef cattle were Rp. 9,780,000,- per 8 cattle  per year. Un-integrated rice paddy gave Rp. 12,745,000,- profit per ha per year. The profit of integrated fattening beef cattle was Rp. 83,457,108 per 12 cattle per year and rice paddy was Rp. 90,517,250. Cost efficiency of un-integrated farming system was only 1.16 while integrated farming system gave cost efficiency of 1.49. Therefore, it can be concluded that the integrated farming system of fattening beef cattle and rice paddy in “Keong Mas” Farmers Group was profitable and efficient. Abstract

EFFECT OF N,P,K FERTILIZER LEVELS ON PLANT COMPONENTS OF BRACHIARIA HUMIDICOLA CV.TULLY AND PENNISETUM PURPUREUM CV.MOTT IN COCONUT PLANTATIONS. In North Sulawesi there are vast grasslands as pastures so that breeders only utilize the existing land in the coconut plantations as cattle raising area. Existing land under the coconut plantation can be utilized or planted variety of agricultural commodities, including forage, where feed was instrumental in the success of  animal farm. In increasing the productivity of forage among others, animal grass needs to be supported by the physical environment, ideal soil and climate. The problem in this research was the area under coconut cultivation had low soil fertility (marginal), so one alternative was given by way of fertilization. Therefore the NPK fertilization is one of the most alternative method to overcome the low soil fertility. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of the combination of NPK fertilizer levels on plant components of Brachiaria humidicola cv. Tully and Pennisetum purpureum cv.mott in coconut plantations. This research was conducted in the western districts of Malalayang 1, Manado city from October 2013 – February 2014. Factorial design method was performed on the basis of completely randomized design with 4 replications. The result in this study showed that the influence of fertilization was demonstrated for the macro elements NPK fertilization required to increase the component of leaves. These elements were met the needs of forage for ruminants. Otherwise the rod components of both grass types were decreased by more complete combination of macro elements of NPK fertilization. In term of different types of grass, the statistical analysis showed that the leaves of the grass component of Pennisetum purpureum were 153.87 g/plot, significantly higher (P<0.05) than Brachiaria humidicola. The stem components were not significantly different for both types of grass. Therefore, the results of this study showed that both types of grass treatment elements required the complete NPK macro to get result with higher leaf components. Abstract

ABSTRACT EXTENSION PROGRAM EVALUATION IN CATTLE FARM BUSINESS AROUND INONSAYANG DISTRICT, SOUTH MINAHASA REGENCY. Sinonsayang district is located in the regency of South Minahasa consisted of 13 villages and area size of 12,960 ha. Generally, Sinonsayang communities were living as farmers / ranchers. The highest populations of cattle were focused in 3 villages around Sinonsayang district including Blongko Village, Ongkaw II and III Villages (296 cattle). The problem of this study was how far the success of extension program in terms of improving education of BP3K for cattle population in the district of Sinonsayang, South Minahasa Regency. The objective of this study was to evaluate the implementation of extension activities around Sinonsayang district, South Minahasa regency. The research was conducted in January to February, 2014 using survey method at the 3 sampling villages with the highest cattle population. The respondents were farmers and ranchers who were randomly targeted for outreach assigned to 30 people (respondents). Research and data collection were done during 2 months. The data in this study were obtained from two sources (primary data and secondary data). Method of purposive sampling was done intentionally. The use of this technique was based on certain characteristics obtained through the population. The results in this study indicated that the extension was not successfully and effectively done by BP3K, because the extension service can only reach few numbers of breeders. Therefore more farmers had less motivation to breed their cattle population. Keywords: Evaluation, Extension, Livestock Cattle
