Abstract

To optimize the utilization of the soils, especially in the wetlands, precise and comprehensive understanding of soil characteristic is needed to support agricultural works. The study was conducted in the Teluk Meranti District, Pelalawan for five months. The field survey was carried out on 1:50.000 scale map which was used for mapping, classifying, describing morphological, physical, and chemical soil properties. The soil classification systems applied to this study were soil taxonomy until family categories. The result of study indicated that areas occupied by six soil mapping units were: sapric haplohemist on 42.173 Ha areas (11%); typic haplohemist on 111.520 Ha areas (29%); typic haplosaprist on 212.486 Ha areas (54%); typic endoquents on 14.310 Ha areas (3%); sulfic endoaquepts on 4.297 Ha areas (1%); humic endoaquepts on 5.235 Ha areas (1%). Abstract

The development of mungbean seed is affected by the seed filling process. The objective of this research was to know the effect of phosphate dosage toward quality of mungbeen seed during its development within harvesting time (15, 20, 25, and 30 days after flowering). The research was carried out in Agricultural Experiment Station, University of Riau and Seed Test was carried out in Plant Breeder Laboratory which lasted for three months (September-November 2006). This research used Complete Randomized Block Design with four treatments and three replications and Duncan New Multiple Range Test (5%). The treatments were P1=80 kg TSP/ha, P2=90 kg TSP/ha, P3=100 kg TSP/ha, P4=110 kg TSP/ha. Parameters measured were index value test, first count test, standard germination test, and root and shoot growth test at harvest age of 15, 20, 25, and 30 days after flowering. The application of phosphate of 100 kg TSP/ha provided the best result for quality of mungbeen seed. Key Words : mungbeen, viability, vigor, seed quality

Abstract

The objective of the research was to determine the influence of dosage and storage ripening of Calcium Carbide in degreening process of Bangkinang citrus. The research was set up in Complete Randomized Design with four calcium carbide dosage (20, 25, 50, 75 g/kg) on three duration of storage ripening (3, 4, and 5 days). The result of this research concluded that the best treatment was the degreening process with 50 and 70 g/kg calcium carbide dosage and 4 to 5 days storage ripening. Physical and chemical analysis af citrus from this treatment resulted in 5,083-6,2500 Brik total soluble solid and 0,043-0,77% total acid, while organoleptic test showed average hedonic score of 5 and 4,8-5 (both were extremely like), for colour and flavor, respectively. Key words : Calcium carbide, degreening, citrus.

Abstract

Jarak pagar (Jatropha curcas L.) is one of biodiesel resources with high oil content of 35 to 45%. It can grow up in vegetative and generative way. Growth of this plant could be enhanced by giving natural Plant Growth Regulator (PGR) such as cow’s urine which is easy to take, easy to apply, and cheaper than other materials. PGR will be useful for plant if given in low concentration, but in high concentration it will damage the plant. This research aimed to know influence of interaction of storage period and urine concentration to the plant’s growth. It used randomized factorial block experiment with two factors and three replications. The two factors were: (1) storage time of urine (8, 12, and 16 days), and (2) cow’s urine concentration of 25, 50, 75, and 100%.Key Word : cow's urine, jarak pagar, Jatropa cuircas

Abstract

Utilization of organic waste for fertilizer can be enhanced by decomposer substances such as biotic or abiotic decomposers. A field experiment had been conducted to determine the impact of various kinds of decomposers applied to organic waste on chilli growth and production. The decomposer used including Trichoderma sp, stardec, EM-4 and M-Bio and assigned in the field by randomized block design. The result indicated that among decomposers used, EM-4 greatly enhanced decomposition as it promoted better plant growth and greater yield of the chilli. Key words: decomposer, organic waste, Capsicum annuum
