Abstract

Padaharja Village is one of the villages located in Kramat District, Tegal Regency with a strategic area location in developing agromaritime resources. One resource whose potential can be maximized is the livestock sector. Therefore, it is necessary to implement activities to support the results of the livestock sector so that they are maximized, one of which is mineral blocks. The aim of implementing mineral blocks for breeders, especially goats in Padaharja Village, is to maximize the mineral needs of goat livestock which often escape the attention of goat breeders. Activities are carried out offline with an approach in the form of socialization and demonstrating how to make mineral blocks. The results of this activity show a significant increase in farmers' understanding and skills regarding the use of mineral blocks. The impact of this activity is quite positive, with livestock farmers increasing their understanding of the importance of mineral nutrition for their livestock. The use of mineral blocks as a feed supplement has begun to be implemented by several breeders, and they report improvements in livestock health and productivity. Thus, the socialization and demonstration program for making mineral blocks in Padaharja Village has succeeded in increasing farmers' awareness and skills regarding the importance of mineral intake for livestock health and productivity.

Abstract

Silage is a type of animal feed produced through the fermentation of forage materials. This fermentation process is carried out under anaerobic (oxygen-free) conditions, allowing lactic acid bacteria to develop and produce lactic acid while reducing the oxygen content in the forage. The purpose of this program is to produce feed with high moisture content and longer shelf life, making it suitable as a feed reserve during the dry season or when forage resources become scarce. The activities were conducted three times, including presentations on silage, tools and materials, demonstrations, hands-on assistance in silage making, and documentation sessions. Data collection was carried out using participatory observation by directly observing the daily activities of farmers with their livestock. A total of 22 participants took part in this activity. The implementation of the silage-making training had a positive impact on farmers in Keteleng Village. The fermented silage was suitable for livestock consumption. Several challenges were encountered during the program, including limited participation during material presentations and inadequate tools used in the silage-making process. The impact observed was an increase in the farmers' knowledge and understanding of how to make silage as an alternative feed supply through the fermentation process. To ensure the sustainability of this program, active participation of the Keteleng Village farmers was encouraged. The publication of the silage program can further support its continuity. The implementation of this training serves as a concrete step in maintaining feed reserves and improving the welfare of farmers in Keteleng Village, Blado District, Batang Regency, Central Java.

Abstract

Minerals are essential micronutrient components for ruminant livestock, as they play a crucial role in improving Average Daily Gain (ADG), feed-to-muscle conversion efficiency, and maintaining physiological functions and the reproductive system. However, at the smallholder farming level, mineral requirements are often neglected due to the limited availability of feed, which typically consists only of grass and straw. Therefore, this training activity aimed to provide education and practical skills to farmers to independently produce mineral blocks as a solution to fulfill the mineral needs of their livestock. The training was conducted five times across several hamlets in Girimulyo Village, Jatipurno Subdistrict, Wonogiri Regency, using the Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) method and involving 197 participants. The stages of the activity included material presentation, demonstration, hands-on assistance in production, and distribution of mineral blocks to farmers. The training evaluation employed the AIDA model (Attention, Interest, Desire, Action). This program successfully improved the knowledge, skills, and motivation of the farmers. Participants were able to produce mineral blocks independently and experienced direct benefits for their livestock. Some challenges encountered included material preparation and the drying process of the blocks. The mineral block training proved to be an effective and applicable intervention to improve the quality of smallholder livestock farming. It is recommended that similar training programs be continued with active community involvement, supported by monitoring, evaluation, and publication efforts to ensure program sustainability.

Abstract

The majority of Cihamerang Village residents are horticultural farmers. One of the challenges faced by them is pest and disease attacks. Cihamerang Village farmers overcome this by uprooting infected plants and using chemical pesticides which of course can have a negative impact if done continuously. Therefore, counseling on plant pests and diseases in the form of applying the use of botanical pesticides and eco enzyme as a substitute for the use of chemical pesticides, is one alternative to overcome these challenges. This extension aims to increase farmers' knowledge and understanding of the types of diseases and plant pest organisms (OPT) in rice and horticultural crops and how to control them. The methods used were counseling, discussion, demonstration, and evaluation. Counseling was conducted using the lecture method. The material provided was related to the identification of pests and plant diseases, how to control pests and plant diseases, how to make botanical pesticides, and how to make eco enzyme. Discussions were held between farmers and academics and agricultural experts. Demonstrations were conducted to improve farmers' skills in making botanical pesticides and eco enzyme. The evaluation results showed that this activity increased the knowledge of Cihamerang Village farmers related to pests and plant diseases, as well as the manufacture of botanical pesticides and eco enzyme.
