Makara Human Behavior Studies in Asia or Makara Hubs-Asia is a regional journal that seeks to advance understanding of human behavior in the context of Asia through the publication of empirical research articles that may stimulate further research. The word Makara symbolizes the emblem of the journals publisher, Universitas Indonesia, which means the well of knowledge that spreads across the continent. We use the word Asia to refer to people from the Asian continent, regardless of where they live. The journal welcomes research from any discipline that provides significant advancement of our understanding of human behavior in the context of Asia. The journal welcomes original research and review articles from the social sciences and humanities. Disciplines covered in this journal include Anthropology, Communication, Cultural Study, Criminology, Education, Management, Psychology, Psychiatry, Political Science, Public Policy, and Sociology. The mission of our journal is to stimulate research on human behavior in the context of Asia, which will ultimately improve our understanding of human behavior in Asia. The Asian continent has pressing social challenges in the 21st century, and this journal contributes to addressing those issues.

Abstract

This research described that the ethical dimensions (food ethics) of the food’s pattern of human beings is coming from their lifes. So, the food’s pattern of human beings was also built and constructed from their culture with many social culture changes, for example, life style, bio-technology, symbolic expression, and ideologies. The results shows that the eating habitat has ethical dimensions about “the good“ and “the bad” in the processing and the marketing of food and making issues of the consumer society by implication.

Abstract

Movement art in the puppet performances is often mentioned as sabetan. Puppet movement art, that contains rules, norms, guidance (orientation) is convention that is observed and referred to guidance the dalang artists when they move the puppets. One of the convention of movement in the puppet performance is udanagara. Udanegara, that contains ethics and aesthetic, is the rules of speaking, attitude, and action for actors in the puppet performance. Puppet movement include among others paying homage, walking, running, dancing, flying and fighting. That puppet movement is based on social class of puppet, age of puppet, class of puppet, and mood of expression of puppet. Therefore, the movement art of the puppet adopts basic wiraga (true or false action in the puppet movement), wirasa (true or false feeling of puppet movement), and wirama (true or false rhythm in the puppet movement). Method in this research will be conducted step by step: collection data (to watch of puppet performance on television, live performance, dialogue with dalang artist), analysis of data, literary research, conclusion and reporting of the research. This research concludes: puppet movement has of two meanings, large (totality of puppet movement) and narrow (fighting); puppet movement refers to the conventions (norms), oriented by dalang artists (udanegara); basic of puppet movement refers to social class of puppet, age of puppet, class of puppet, and mood of expression of puppet; now, puppet movement becomes more and more creative and dynamic. The development of puppet movement in line with the way of thinking of society that is more improved, critical, and dynamic.

Abstract

The study of nusantara’s manuscripts which keep on the library Faculty of Humanities University of Indonesia (before Faculty of Letters-UI), especially medical text Javanese, Balinese, Melanese, and Sundanese show the information about the deseases, varieties of herba medical, processing, and therapies.

Abstract

The finally of day, used the Statistic in social and economics research was be important to description of social and economics phenomena’s. How far used intensity of statistics as tools of analysis, the mistake in applied and relevancy with numeric of graduate of statistics and Value of Average Quality at Student of High School of Economic Swadaya in Jakarta is the interesting research. The result of this research are; The low intensity of used statistics analysis in their research, and there is trend that to be complex of used statistic analysis, to be high of the mistake in used them. The lower of ability to understanding the statistical science and others is correlated by the result of this research.

Abstract

The Book of Candrarini is an ethic didactical book for women in polygamist system, for the eternity of her marriage. It was a disgrace that a woman divorced. This book was the masterpiece of it’s era, written in 1860 in the glory of feodalism in Surakarta, where the authority, high officials and the very peoples did polygamy. That is why His Majesty Paku Buwana IX had Ranggawarsita to write an ethic didactic for women, with the five wives of Arjuna as the model: three princesses and two daughters of priest with very nice performance and gentle behaviour. They lived in harmony, devoted to their husband. The ethic didactic was a catharsis for women in concubine. This research observes Candrarini from its own internal aspects as literary, religious, historical, political, sociological and psychological aspect. The result is : Beauty of a woman does not lie so much in her external appearance as in her internal virtues like modesty, chastity, compassion, service and refined manners. That is the way to save and preserve the eternity of marriage’s life. The ethic is always up to date, everlasting, eternal.
