Abstract

Abstract

The number of elderly population in the world is increasing nowadays. In 2020, there were 1.4 billion people in the world aged ≥60 years and it is predicted to double by 2050. Decline in cognitive function and memory is one of the consequences of the aging process that can affect a person’s quality of life. MCI is a pathological condition also preclinical and transitional stage between normal aging and dementia. Early detection and intervention of MCI may delay onset and prevent the progressivity of MCI to dementia. This article aims to provide an overview of MCI which includes risk factors, subjective and objective clinical signs, disease course, diagnosis, and recommendation of MCI management based on existing studies and guidelines.

Abstract

Background: Breast cancer has become one of the most common cancers in Indonesia, and being one of the largest contributors to cancer deaths. Several studies have shown association between breast cancer with obesity and hypertension, both as modifiable risk factors. Methods: This study was conducted using unpaired categorical comparativeanalytic method with a case control design. Samples were collected using medical record data using consecutive sampling method. Sample were 160 patients aged 20–55 years at Siloam Lippo Village Hospital Building B; consisting of 80 casegroup samples and 80 control group samples. Data was analysed using Chi-square test. Result: Data analysis resultshowed that there was an association between obesity and breast cancer in patients at Siloam Lippo Village Hospital Building B (p=0.000; OR=11.238; 95% CI=5.360–23.563). There was also association between hypertension and breast cancer in patients at Siloam Lippo Village Hospital Building B (p=0.007; OR=7.567;95% CI=1.648–34.740). Conclusion:There is a significant association between obesity and hypertension with the incident of breast cancer in patients at SiloamLippo Village Hospital Building B.

Abstract

Thyroid storm is a life-threatening condition that requires prompt diagnosis and emergency treatment. This condition manifests as multiple organ decompensation characterized by loss of consciousness, high fever, heart failure, diarrhea, and jaundice. We report a case of a 51-year-old man with a chief complaint of fever that has been felt since the night before admission. Body temperature was up to 38°C and started while he was resting. Patient also reported dry, intense cough, since five days ago, accompanied with shortness of breath when lying down. The patient also felt palpitations sincethe previous night and still felt until the morning of admission, and did not improve with rest. The patient was diagnosed by observation of suspension shock due to cardiogenic shock, suspect Graves’ disease (thyroid storm), ADHF profileB et causa suspect CAD, AF RVR, type 2 DM, myofascial pain syndrome with differential diagnosis: headache related toinfection, hyponatremia chronic asymptomatic hypoosmolar hypervolemic et causa suspect dilution, hypoalbuminemia etcausa suspect chronic inflammation, and upper respiratory tract infection. Thyroid storm cases require a multidisciplinaryapproach in terms of diagnosis and therapy. In this case, the patient is referred to the internal medicine, cardiac, andneurology departments.

Abstract

Background: Ashy dermatosis is a rare, acquired, benign, and idiopathic hypermelanotic disease. It is manifested asashy-colored lesion with no signs of inflammation. Commonly affected sites of the body include the trunk, neck, face, also proximal and distal extremities. Case: A 33-year-old woman came to Dr. Moewardi Hospital, Surakarta, with chief complaints asymptomatic, ashy colored macule that appear on her right arm. Physical examination in general region shows ashy-colored macule and multiple discrete patches of hyperpigmentation with irregular border. Dermoscopy examinationmacules showed bluish-gray skin markings over bluish background. Histopathological examination showed thin epidermis layer, hyperkeratosis, incontinentia pigmenti, dropping melanin resembles the basal layer civatte bodies. At dermis focal fibrosis was found with infiltrates, incontinentia pigmenti, and dropping melanin. Discussion: Ashy dermatosis or known as erythema dyschromicum perstans is a rare hyperpigmentation disorder that started with reddish, active-bordered lesions, then disappear, leaving a round or oval shape, polycyclic, and ashy macule on the proximal region of the trunk andneck. Onset of symptoms usually at young adult, between first and second decade of life. Etiology of ashy dermatosis is still unclear, and many factors were thought to be involved. Dermoscopy examination showed bluish-gray macules overbluish background. Histopathological examination showed lichenoid reactions and an increase melanin on the dermis. This report aims to describe the diagnosis a rare condition based on anamnesis, physical examination, dermoscopy, and histopathological examination. Clinical findings in this patient were in accordance with the result of previous studies.

Abstract

Kasumba turatea (Carthamus tinctorius L.) is a plant that has been used as traditional medicine in South Sulawesi. Themain component of C. tinctorius L. flowers is hydroxysafflor yellow A, which functions as an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and platelet aggregation inhibitor. This review highlights pharmacological potential of C. tinctorius L. as an antibacterialagent. The method involves a literature review from various databases such as PubMed, Google Scholar, and Scopus. Theresults show that C. tinctorius L. extracts are effective against various pathogenic bacteria such as Listeria monocytogenes,Streptococcus iniae, Staphylococcus aureus, and Escherichia coli. Bioactive compounds like carthamin, phenolics, and flavonoids exhibit significant antibacterial activity. Additionally, C. tinctorius L. extracts also show potential as anthelminticand antioxidant agents. Further research is required to isolate and characterize specific bioactive compounds, followed by in vivo validation and clinical study to confirm their efficacy as well as safety.
