Abstract

Hypertension generally occurs without symptoms (asymptomatic). Most people do not feel it, even though their blood pressure is far above normal. Treatment for hypertension can be done non-pharmacologically, traditional medicine (herbal) treatment. One of the non-pharmacological treatments is celery cam therapy. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of celery cam therapy on blood pressure in the elderly at UlPTD Pulskelsmas Kulala Selmpang. The research method is a qualitative research with a pretest-posttest with control group design. The questionnaire was conducted. The sample was 36 respondents. The sampling technique was purposive sampling. Univariate data analysis of the majority in the elderly age range (elderly) 60-74 years as many as 33 respondents (91.7%), gender is mostly female 30 respondents (83.3%) education is mostly elementary school 22 respondents (61.1%), and the duration of hypertension <5 years is mostly majority 30 respondents (83.3%). Bivariate analysis using the Wilcoxon test with a p value of 0.000 there is an influence of celery therapy on blood pressure in the elderly at UlPTD Pulskelsmas Kulala Selmpang. The conclusion of celery therapy shows a positive effect in lowering blood pressure in the elderly because celery contains compounds such as phthalides, which can help relax the walls of the arteries and increase blood flow and contain flavonoids, saponins, tannins, essential oils and apigelnin which are efficacious as tonics that stimulate digestive enzymes, Regular consumption of celery can help control hypertension. Abstract

Obesity in adolescents is a rising health issue that can lead to metabolic and psychological problems. This study aims to identify the relationship between physical activity and emotional eating with the occurrence of  obesity in adolescents. A quantitative non-experimental study with a cross-sectional design was conducted. The sample consisted of 72 students from grades X and XI with a BMI ≥ 23, selected using random sampling. Data were collected using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) and the Dutch Eating  Behavior Questionnaire, along with anthropometric measurements to assess BMI. Data analysis was performed using Spearman’s rho test with SPSS. The majority of adolescents with low physical activity levels were classified as Obese 2 (BMI ≥ 30), and high emotional eating was also significantly associated with obesity. Both variables showed a significant correlation with p-values < 0.05. Low physical activity and high emotional eating are major risk factors for obesity in adolescents. It is recommended that schools and government authorities enhance physical activity programs and emotional management education to prevent obesity. Support from family and the environment is also crucial to reinforce healthy lifestyles among adolescents.

Abstract

One of the non-pharmacological nursing interventions that can be implemented to prevent urinary incontinence is bladder training. Through bladder training, it is expected to prevent dysfunction and gradually increase bladder capacity as well as extend the interval between urination. This study used a quantitative design with a quasi-experimental approach, employing a pretest and post-test design without a control group. Data were collected from the regular outpatient population at the Urology Clinic of Naval Hospital dr. Midiyato Suratani Tanjungpinang between March 21, 2025, and April 16, 2025, with a total sample of 12 respondents. Sampling was conducted using accidental sampling. The results of the Wilcoxon test showed a p-value of 0.000, indicating that the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. It can be concluded that bladder training has a significant effect on the urination ability of post-operative benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) patients at the Urology Clinic of Naval Hospital dr. Midiyato Suratani Tanjungpinang. Bladder training is effective in helping post-BPH surgery patients manage urination issues. It can improve urinary control by enhancing bladder capacity and strengthening the pelvic floor muscles

Abstract

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a global health issue with a steadily increasing prevalence. One of the main challenges for hemodialysis patients is the increase in interdialytic weight gain (IDWG) due to fluid imbalance. Effective fluid management is crucial for improving patients' self-care abilities, one of which is through the use of smartphone technology. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of using a smartphone based self-care management application on improving self-care management skills in maintaining Interdialytic Weight Gain (IDWG) in patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis at RST dr. Soedjono Magelang. The study design was quasi-experimental with a pretest-posttest design and a control group. The study was conducted at dr. Soedjono General Hospital in Magelang with a total of 56 participants, divided into two groups: 28 in the experimental group and 28 in the control group. The sample was selected using purposive sampling. The intervention involved the use of a smartphone-based fluid management app over a specific period. Data analysis was performed using a paired t-test.The results showed a significant improvement in self-care ability after the app intervention, with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). This indicates that the use of a smartphone app effectively supports fluid management in CKD patients. In conclusion, smartphone-based self-care applications have a positive effect on improving the self-care abilities of PGK patients undergoing hemodialysis. The use of smartphone-based fluid management self-care applications needs to be promoted.

Abstract

Verbal abuse is a common form of violence within the family environment. Verbal abuse by parents can negatively impact the emotional development of adolescents. It can hinder emotional growth, such as  decreasing self-confidence, increasing anxiety, and causing difficulties in emotional regulation and social  relationships. If left unaddressed, this condition may lead to long-term mental health problems in adolescents.  This study aims to examine the relationship between parental verbal abuse and the emotional development of  adolescents at SMPN 6 Subang. This research employed a descriptive correlational design with a cross sectional approach. The sample consisted of 107 adolescents selected using purposive sampling and stratified  random sampling techniques. Data were collected using questionnaires on parental verbal abuse and  adolescent emotional development, and analyzed using the Spearman Rank correlation test. There is a significant relationship between parental verbal abuse and adolescent emotional development (p value = 0.000 < 0.05). This relationship is strongly negative, as indicated by a correlation coefficient of r = 0.674. These findings suggest that higher levels of verbal abuse from parents are associated with poorer emotional development in adolescents. There is a significant negative relationship between parental verbal abuse and the emotional development of adolescents. The more severe the verbal abuse, the poorer the emotional development of adolescents.

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the chronic non-communicable diseases that contributes significantly to morbidity and mortality in Indonesia. The pathophysiology of hypertension triggers changes in hematocrit levels and increases illness severity, which may lead to anorexia. This study aims to determine the relationship between appetite and hematocrit levels in patients with hypertension. This research employed a correlational design using a cross-sectional approach. A total of 34 hospitalized hypertensive patients participated in the study. Appetite was assessed using the Measure Appetite Questionnaire, and hematocrit levels were obtained through laboratory tests. Data were analyzed using Spearman Rho test. The majority of respondents had low hematocrit levels (58.8%) and good appetite (61.8%). Statistical analysis showed a significant relationship between appetite and hematocrit levels (p = 0.008), with a moderate correlation strength (r = 0.448). Better appetite was associated with higher hematocrit levels. There is a positive correlation between appetite and hematocrit levels in patients with hypertension. Good appetite is positively associated with normal hematocrit levels in hypertensive patients.

Abstract

HIV/AIDS causes many impacts on adolescents, which ultimately affect their families and communities. This happens due to ignorance and misinformation, resulting in poor perception and behavioral control among  adolescents. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between adolescents' perceptions  and their HIV/AIDS behavioral control. This study used quantitative methods with a cross sectional design. The sampling technique was accidental sampling, with 86 respondents. Data were collected using a questionnaire and then analyzed univariately and bivariately using the Chi-square test. The results of the study showed that the majority of adolescents' perceptions were in the good category (76.7%), the majority of behavioral control was in the good category (72.1%) and there was a significant relationship between adolescents' perceptions and HIV/AIDS behavioral control (p value = 0.001). Adolescents' perceptions are linked to their HIV/AIDS behavioral control. Positive perceptions will improve their HIV/AIDS behavioral control. Adolescents' perceptions can influence their behavioral control, so maximizing positive perceptions is crucial for behavioral control.

Abstract

Anxiety among patients’ families often occurred while waiting for medical treatment in the Emergency Department (ED). Several studies in Indonesia reported that more than 50% of patients’ families experienced moderate to severe levels of anxiety. One of the contributing factors was the response time of medical personnel in providing care. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between response time and the anxiety levels of patients’ families at the Emergency Department of RSI PKU Muhammadiyah Tegal. A quantitative approach with a descriptive correlational design and a cross-sectional method was applied. A total of 96 respondents were selected using accidental sampling. Data collection instruments included an observation sheet to measure response time and a questionnaire to assess anxiety levels. The results of the Chi-Square test showed a significant relationship between response time and family anxiety (p-value = 0.000; X² = 96.000). These findings indicated that the faster the patient received treatment, the lower the level of anxiety experienced by the family. This study was expected to serve as input for hospital management to improve the service system by accelerating the response time of medical personnel in order to reduce the anxiety experienced by patients’ families in the Emergency Department.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disease that may lead to microvascular complication, including  diabetic nephropathy, which is characterized by proteinuria. Proteinuria serves as an early indicatot of kidney  damage in DM patients. Tea consumption patterns, particularly green and black tea, have attracted attention  due to their polyphenol content, which may provide protective effects on kidney function. This study aimed to  evaluate proteinuria status among diabetic patient with daily tea consumption habits. A descriptive cross sectional design was conducted on 51 DM patient at Bandung Primary Health Center, Tegal City (June-July  2025) who had been diagnosed with DM for at least five years, had a habit of drinking tea, and had no history of kidney stones. Data were collected using a questionnaire on respondents’ characteristics and tea  consumption habits, followed by urine protein examination. Data analysis was performed descrivtively using  frequency distribution. The results shows that the mean age of responden was 58,2 years, with the majority  being female (68,6%) and having lived with DM for 5-9 years ( 60,8%). Black tea was the most frequently  consumed type (86,7%), with more than five years consumption (84,3%) and two cups per day (41,2%) Proteinuria examination revealed 62,7% negative, 23,5% positive 1, 5,9% positive 2, and 7,3% positive 3. The majority of patients with long-term tea consumption had negative proteinuria results, indicating potensial protective effects on kidney function. However, the presence of 37,3% positive proteinuria suggest that other  factors such as glycemic control, duration of diabetes, and variations in the type and intake may still influence  the outcomes.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) was associated with urological complications, particularly Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (LUTS). LUTS included nocturia, urgency, frequency, decreased urine flow, incomplete bladder emptying, and incontinence, which could cause physical and psychological distress and reduce quality of life.  Early identification of LUTS in patients with DM was essential to prevent progression and improve symptom management. This descriptive study aimed to identify LUTS in DM patients in Tegal City. A total of 106  respondents with DM were selected through purposive sampling from the service areas of Tegal Timur, Bandung, Debong Lor, and Margadana public health centers. Data were collected through interviews using the LURN Symptom Index-29 (LURN SI-29). Descriptive statistics were applied to analyze mean, standard deviation, minimum, and maximum values. The findings revealed that the highest mean score was in Section E (Nocturia) with 65.89 (SD = 22.16), followed by Section D (Urgency) with 22.42 (SD = 22.66). The lowest  score was in Section B (Bladder Pain), with 7.02 (SD = 14.19). The total LURN SI-29 score had a mean of 19.15 (SD = 9.98), ranging from 5.70 to 53.30. In conclusion, nocturia was the most dominant symptom  experienced by DM patientsin Tegal City, followed by urgency. Meanwhile, bladder pain was relatively rarely reported. Overall, the total LUTS score indicated that most DM patients experienced lower urinary tract symptoms with varying levels of severity. Early detection of LUTS was recommended to help DM patients  recognize symptoms earlier and receive appropriate interventions.
