Abstract

This screenplay project focuses on cyberbullying's impacts on its victims, both mentally and physically. The goal is to shed light into this action of crime that is often overlooked, to make a better cyberspace environment, and to raise awareness to the public, especially cyberbullying perpetrators, to stop what they are doing. To do so, this creative thesis uses the cyberbullying concept that points out how cyberspace bullying can trigger paranoia and depression among many other mental disorders. The work is based on theories on paranoia, depression and cyberbullying itself. From the screenplay, it is shown how the main characters got cyberbullied, and later went from a healthy, hardworking, resilient man to a mentally broken human being as a consequence. By understanding the impact the act of cyberbullying can have on a person’s life, cyberspace users can be more responsible and refrain themselves from the act of cyberbullying. Keywords: Cyberbully, Screenplay, Depression, Paranoia, Psychological Thriller.

Abstract

Established in April 2020 by Budi Santosa, KRN.BGT is a fashion brand from Jogja Painting that produces artistic masks by collaborating with other local artists. KRN.BGT is targeting people aged 20s-30s who like visual arts. Although it has a well-designed Instagram account, they still receive many questions from their customers and potential customers regarding their products through Instagram direct messages and comments. Therefore, I decided to improve KRN.BGT’s product knowledge by creating a list of FAQs of its products on its Instagram Stories Highlights, compiled from the direct messages and comments by applying the theories of good FAQs by Biroscak (2019) and color contrast from Alscher (2019) and Evans (2019). I found three USPs from my observation and survey, namely adjustable, suitable for adults and children, and customizable; and include them into the list of FAQs, so its existing and potential customers know more about its products. Keywords: product knowledge, FAQ, Instagram, Instagram Stories Highlights

Abstract

Psycho-Pass is one of the most well-known examples of dystopian anime. The story is set in 22nd century Japan, where the country is ruled by the Sibyl System. The world is portrayed to be an ideal world that is seemingly crime-free, yet the world also contained many problems that offset how ideal it seemed. In this paper, we are concerned about how Psycho-Pass can be categorized as a paradoxical world. Therefore, we aim to show the ways that the world of Psycho-Pass is indeed paradoxical by using utopia and dystopia theories. Through our analysis, we found that elements of both utopia and dystopia are present in Psycho-Pass. The world of Psycho-Pass is paradoxical in that it is ideal and faulty at the same time. Keywords: anime, paradoxical, utopia, dystopia.

Abstract

Mebel Sumber Jati is an organization that sells furniture items like teak closet, teak table, teak wood seats, spring bed, aluminum glass cabinet, sofa, and eating table. The issue is the deals of this organization continues to decrease since the pandemic occurred. That is the reason behind why this organization actually struggles to get new clients. Nonetheless, the organization intends to grow its objective market, particularly during this pandemic. The arrangement is by extending the objective business sectors through Facebook with an online inventory. On Facebook, the organization will combine the photograph items and the cost just as on the online list. The online catalogue will be distributed on the Facebook marketplace page as a connection. The catalog was made using the theory of Bethina Oksen Bendroff, 2021 Therefore, by having a Facebook with an online list, Mebel Sumber Jati will actually be able to extend their new objective market. Keywords: Facebook, Online catalogue, Expanding target market

Abstract

This qualitative study aimed to know in what ways the verbal (oral mode) and non-verbal (visual mode and gestural mode) semiotic resources help Dove meet the criteria of femvertising. The study used the Multimodal approach to help analyze the data. The writer collected and analyzed the data from Dove’s My Beauty My Say video. The findings showed that the verbal semiotic resources help Dove meet the criteria of femvertising by orally informing the audiences about the problems and arguments that are faced by the women in the video and how they responded to the problems in order to empower all the women. Meanwhile, the non-verbal semiotic resources help Dove meet the criteria of femvertising by revealing women in the authentic form and outside of traditional gender stereotypes so that they can deliver predominantly pro-female messages that can empower themselves and other women who are facing the similar problems as they do. The non-verbal semiotic resources are delivered by using the gestures (e.g. facial expression and body language) and objects (e.g. outfits, dominated background color, focus of the camera) in the video. In conclusion, I observe these semiotic resources are important to help Dove meet the criteria of femvertising.  Keywords: Femvertising, Multimodal, Verbal semiotic resources, Non-verbal semiotic resources

Abstract

Gaslighting is a modern term that describes a type of toxic relationship that psychologically abuses the victim. Gaslighting is understood as manipulating the victim into questioning his sanity and the gaslighter has a goal to create a ‘surreal’ environment that will cause the victim to feel like he is in the wrong and is crazy. Since gaslighting is all about manipulation, it can cause mental disorders. In the theoretical framework, we will apply the concept of gaslighting and self-actualization to show the effects of gaslighting and the ways to cope with it. In this work, we explore how gaslighting can cause anxiety, depression and low self-esteem in the victims. We show that the victims of gaslighting can deal with it by fulfilling physiological needs and building herself up again by the help of friends and families. Keywords: gaslighting, toxic relationship, poetry, lyrical poem

Abstract

This paper elaborates the project of creating picture-book stories for two to five years old of Indonesian children, which highlight the issue of identity development in children. Erik Erikson’s eight stages of psychosocial development will be the theoretical framework of this paper. In the first and second story, the main characters pass through the crisis of autonomy versus shame and doubt. They have strict and overprotective parents that caused them to doubt themselves. However, by believing in themselves and taking an action, they passed the crisis and developed a balanced identity. In the third, fourth, and fifth story, the main characters pass through the crisis of initiative versus guilt. They learn to be honest, to forgive, and to let go. Each action has its own risk, but by taking the initiative to do the right thing, they passed the crisis successfully and formed a balanced identity. Keywords: children picture-books, children development, psychosocial development, autonomy vs shame and doubt, initiative vs guilt, balanced identity

Abstract

This study aims to find the speech styles used by Bagas as the main character in Pakai Hati The Series when he talked to his colleagues, clients, and supervisors.  In conducting this study, I used the theory of speech styles by Chaer and Agustina (2010), standard Indonesian characteristics by Prihantini (2015) and Kridalaksana (2007), social dimension by Holmes (2017), and status by Brown and Attardo (2005) as the theoretical framework. This study employed a qualitative approach. From the analysis, I found that Bagas used the consultative style, casual style, and intimate style when talking to his colleagues, clients, and bosses. He also used the formal style towards his clients, but he did not use the frozen style when talking to his interlocutors. This study showed that Bagas did not differentiate his speech style merely based on status since there were some other factors that might affect his choice of speech style, namely: habit or personality, type or context of the conversation, and social distance. Keywords: speech styles, status, web series
