Abstract

This research focused on the views and interpretations of Muhammad Husain Thabahaba'i regarding Syafa'at in his commentary, al-Mizan Fi Tafsir al-Qur'an. Discussion of Syafa'at has debating between Sunni and Shi'a groups. One of the debates conveyed in the form of interpretation of the Qur'an or interpretation of the Qur'an. The interpretation of verses regarding Syafa'at was influenced by ideological interests, such as Sunni and Shi'a interests. That is, the Sunni group has a style of interpretation that is different from the Shia group regarding Syafa'at, the giver of Syafa'at, and the form of Syafa'at in the Qur'an. This research departs from anxiety related to differences of opinion regarding Syafa'at from the two groups. In interpreting the verse regarding Syafa'at, the Shi'a group cites some of the narrations of the Shi'a scholars who have an ideology that is contradictory to other Islamic streams, in this case, such as the Sunni sect. This research looked for term on the work of Tafsir al-Mizan Fi Tafsir al-Qur'an. This study used a thematic approach (Maudhu'i) with a descriptive-analytical method. This study found two major conclusions. First, Tabataba'i understood Syafa'at in the sense of obtaining benefits and keeping harm away. Thabathabai divided Syafa'at into two contexts, namely Syafa'at in worldly life, namely an advantage or harm caused by natural causes, such as hunger and thirst, heat or cold, and others and Syafa'at in life in the hereafter, namely the cause of the last thing that will be given by God, such as help, reward, and others. As for the Thabataba'i Syafa'at giving group, they divided it into two types, namely Syafa'at givers in the life of the world and Syafa'at givers in the hereafter. Second, in interpreting QS. al-Baqarah: 48, 123, and 254, Tabataba'i understood it as a rejection of giving Syafa'at absolutely to Jews. Meanwhile, in interpreting QS. al-Baqarah: 255. Tabataba'i was understood that the giver of Syafa'at is absolutely given by Allah SWT and by groups who get permission or are pleased by Allah, such as the Prophet Muhammad SAW and the Shia Imams.

Abstract

This paper discusses the importance of the study of muhkam and mutasyabbih verses in contemporary Qur'anic studies. The discussion of muhkam and mutasyabbih lately seems to be pushed aside by contemporary approaches that mainly come from Western scholars. Despite being an inseparable part of the classical scholars' products, the discussion of muhkam and mutasyabbih verses is still very relevant to be discussed in this era. This research is library research with a descriptive-analytical approach. The material object of this research is taken from the books of Ulum al-Qur'an from classical to contemporary. As for analyzing it, the author uses theories from Muslim scholars and scholars about the position of the theory of ulum al-Qur'an related to the research problem. The results of the study in this paper concluded that the concept or theme of muhkam and mutasyabbih is a basic theory in the study of al-Qur'anic science formulated by Eastern scholars in the classical era. This theory is well-established and very fundamental. It is grouped as one of the branches of ulum al-Qur'an. Someone who will understand the Qur'an and explore the meaning of the Qur'an must master this branch of science. However, the established theory was shaken because of the results of Western scholars' studies of the Qur'an. The influence of Western studies on the Qur'an makes the Qur'anic scholars seem to discredit the study of muhkam and mutasyabbih. There is even an assumption that the study of muhkam and mutasyabbih is classic and outdated. Whereas without this study someone will not be able to map and explore the meaning of the Qur'an which is so broad and deep. For a Muslim, the Qur'an is a divine manifestation that cannot be doubted. This view is contrary to Western epistemology which always starts from suspicion. Therefore, the study of muhkam and mutasyabbih is still very significant to be discussed in this contemporary era. It cannot only be considered an intellectual treasure of classical scholars but also as an authoritative rule in understanding the Qur'an.

Abstract

There are pros and cons from scholars regarding Allah's prohibition when asking for a candidacy position in a campaign for political office. This difference has been caused by the arguments in the Qur'an and al-Sunnah which prohibit or allow candidacy. Candidates can be justified if they have sufficient capacity, capability, and acceptability, as well as genuine motives to seek the pleasure of Allah and serve the public interest, not for personal gain or to the detriment of society. This study examines the hadith about "asking for a leadership position" with the Ma'anil hadith approach in library research. Data was collected from various hadith books and hadith syarah books. then Takhrij al-hadith is carried out to determine the quality of hadith, and understanding of hadith is analyzed using textual and contextual approaches. The results of the research show that all hadiths that prohibit asking for leadership positions have a high level of authenticity and can be used as evidence. Textually, the prohibition indicates that asking for a position will result in regret, and leadership positions are only given to those who meet certain requirements, not by asking. However, contextually, this prohibition may change according to the situation and conditions when running for office. Thus, from haram can be makruh, mubah, and so on.

Abstract

This research is motivated by new discoveries related to natural phenomena but have long been explained by the Qur'an. The phenomenon of the meeting between two sea waters either vertically or horizontally but not mixed between them was one of the phenomena that has been mentioned in the Qur'an. The purpose of this research is to look more broadly at the explanation of the phenomenon of the meeting of the two seas both in the perspective of the Qur'an, the mufasirs and in the view of science. From this study found the results 1) the word bahrain refers to two meanings. Firstly, it refers to the meeting of two sea waters that are both salty but the level of saltiness between the two is different. While the second, refers to the notion of a meeting between fresh water (river) and salt water (sea). 2) In general, the scholars of interpretation argue that what is meant by the word bahrain in the Qur'an is the meeting between fresh water and salt water, both of which flow side by side but do not mix with each other because of the boundaries created by Allah SWT, which cannot be seen by human eyes. 3) According to the scientific interpretation of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, it is said that Allah has made two different seas, one fresh and the other salty. Both move next to each other but do not mix with each other. This is one of the favours that Allah gives to humans. In the research that has been done, experts who focus on the ocean managed to find the boundary between two different seas. The discovery revealed that there is a dividing line between each sea, which flows between the two seas. The dividing boundary is called a front.

Abstract

Sheikh Muhammad Yasin al-Fadani was a great Indonesian hadith scholar in the late 20th century. A scholar of Padang, West Sumatra who was born in Makkah and is famous in various parts of the world. The scholars recognized his knowledge by dubbing him as Musnid al-Dunya. He mastered various fields of Islamic science, especially regarding the science of hadith which focused on the sanad and matan of hadith. This research discusses the book of Al-'Ujalah fi Al-Ahadith Al-Musalsalah, one of the unique and rare written works, which is used as a source of reference for science, but there has been no research that focuses on this book to find out the method and content of the book's discussion. This research uses a combined method of character study and literature study, which aims to analyze the methodology he used both in the form of systematics and characteristics of writing the book "Al-'Ujalah fi Al-Ahadith Al-Musalsalah" as well as introducing his role and contribution during the study. The results of this study show that the book "Ujalah fi Al-Ahadith Al-Musalsalah" contains musalsal traditions with the most famous sanad network known by hadith scholars that are complete both in terms of sanad and matan, connected from one teacher to another, in the tradition of previous hadith scholars, up to the Prophet Muhammad. He then provides explanations and assessments of the musalsal traditions listed by several scholars as well as the authenticity of the traditions.

Abstract

This article is based on the reality of life, especially Muslims in general, where there are still many Muslims who do not pay attention to religious tolerance in the life of the state and society. It can be seen from the reality that happened recently in Indonesia. The aim of this article is to look at the meaning and essence of tolerance in the Qur'an through the comprehension put forward by the tafsir experts by comparing the tafsir of Fath al-Qadir and the tafsir of the Ministry of Religious Affairs of Indonesia. The comparative method is carried out on the work of Imam Shaukani in the interpretation of Fath al-Qadir and the Qur'an and its Tafsir by the Ministry of Religious Affairs. This article finds that these two works of interpretation both emphasize that tolerance between religious communities only applies in the sociological aspect, not in the theological context. This argument was found through various verses in the Qur'an that talk about inter-religious relations, such as Q.S. Al-Baqarah: 256, Al-An'am: 108 and Al-Kafirun 1-6. In these verses, it is then illustrated that first, in the context of the da'wah passage there is no compulsion for non-Muslims to embrace Islam and it is strictly forbidden to hurt non-Muslims by mocking their God; second, there is no compromise for non-Muslims to invite to worship idols, because theological issues or monotheism are the identities and characteristics of a Muslim.
