Abstract

This study aims to explore students’ STEM literacy related to global warming, examine gender-based differences, analyze response patterns using the Rasch Model, and identify underlying misconceptions through interviews—addressing a critical issue in 21st-century science education. The study used surveys, Rasch Model analysis, and interviews to involve 30 twelfth-grade students in Bandung, who were chosen randomly from groups. The STEM literacy test consisted of 20 multiple-choice items covering science, technology-engineering, and mathematics. The Rasch Model was used to assess item reliability, person ability distribution, and fit statistics, while interviews were used to triangulate the quantitative findings. Results indicated that students’ science literacy was the lowest (43%), followed by mathematics (57%) and technology-engineering (63%). Female students outperformed male students across all aspects. Rasch analysis revealed varying ability levels, with several students exhibiting inconsistent response patterns, indicating misconceptions or guessing behavior. Interview findings supported the test results, revealing students' difficulties in interpreting data, applying STEM knowledge, and building confidence in analytical reasoning. This study helps create better project-based STEM learning methods and offers proof to improve STEM assessment tools in science education, particularly regarding environmental problems like global warming.

Abstract

This study was initiated to support English as a Foreign Language (EFL) lecturers in enhancing culturally responsive writing instruction by integrating elements of Indonesian local wisdom. Recognizing the need to strengthen students’ cultural identity and moral values through language learning, this initiative aimed to explore current practices, benefits, and challenges faced by lecturers in embedding local content into academic writing tasks. A qualitative-descriptive approach was employed, with data collected through a questionnaire completed by 30 English as a Foreign Language (EFL) lecturers from various Indonesian universities. Findings revealed that a majority of lecturers incorporate proverbs, folktales, traditional events, and cultural values, primarily through descriptive, narrative, and argumentative essays. These practices not only improve students’ linguistic and cognitive skills but also foster reflective thinking and cultural pride. However, lecturers reported several challenges, including limited resources, curriculum constraints, and lack of professional training. The results promote a more localized and meaningful approach to EFL writing instruction, empowering both educators and learners to preserve and reflect on Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage. Moreover, this study contributes to the broader discourse on decolonizing EFL curricula and offers a replicable model for culturally sustaining pedagogy in other multilingual, multicultural contexts.

Abstract

The folk tale of Malin Kundang carries significant moral and cultural values, yet younger generations' interest in conventional storytelling has declined with the advancement of digital technologies. This research addresses that gap by developing an interactive digital animation using Augmented Reality (AR) and Motion Capture (MoCap) technologies to create a more immersive and engaging user experience. Through a mixed-methods approach, including prototype development with Unity 3D, motion tracking using OptiTrack/Xsens, and user testing, the system achieved 95% accuracy in character motion and high user satisfaction. While technical challenges such as latency and hardware constraints remain, the results demonstrate that the integration of AR and MoCap revitalizes traditional stories and offers global benefits—providing scalable solutions applicable to education, cultural heritage preservation, training simulations, and entertainment industries worldwide. This study contributes to the growing field of immersive digital storytelling and offers insights for future research into motion algorithm optimization and developing more accessible MoCap technologies for global use.

Abstract

Inclusive education is a key component in achieving equitable and quality learning for all, yet its implementation in Indonesia still faces significant challenges. This study aims to analyze the dynamics, challenges, and opportunities of inclusive education in Indonesia while identifying gaps between existing policies and actual practices. Using a qualitative descriptive approach combined with bibliometric analysis, this research examines 100 articles indexed by Google Scholar from 2021 to 2025. Data were collected using the Publish or Perish application and analyzed using VOSviewer to map publication trends, co-authorship networks, and the most cited articles. Results indicate that while inclusive education policies exist, their implementation is hindered by inadequate infrastructure, limited teacher competencies, and insufficient curriculum flexibility. A significant decrease in research output after 2022 suggests a need for renewed academic interest and policy support. The study concludes that more targeted teacher training and adaptive curriculum design are essential for advancing inclusive practices. This research contributes to the scientific literature by offering a novel bibliometric overview and proposing actionable strategies to bridge the gap between policy and practice in inclusive education.

Abstract

In the context of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) education, communicative competence remains a crucial goal for higher education students. However, the roles of learning strategies—particularly metacognitive and socio-affective strategies in shaping communicative competence are still underexplored. This study aims to examine the predictive relationship between students’ use of metacognitive and socio-affective strategies and their overall communicative competence. Employing a quantitative approach with multiple regression analysis, data were collected from 120 EFL university students using standardized questionnaires. The findings revealed that socio-affective strategies significantly predicted students’ communicative competence, while metacognitive strategies did not demonstrate a significant effect. The results suggest that emotional regulation, interpersonal interaction, and social support are essential components in enhancing students’ ability to communicate effectively in English. This research contributes to applied linguistics and EFL pedagogy by emphasizing the importance of socio-affective dimensions in language learning and advocating for strategy-based instruction in classrooms. In terms of practical contribution, the study offers insights for language educators and curriculum developers to design more holistic and student-centered teaching strategies that promote not only linguistic knowledge but also emotional engagement and communicative confidence among students.

Abstract

This study examines the effect of teacher performance on student learning outcomes in mathematics using quantitative and qualitative methods. Quantitatively, linear regression analysis revealed a strong positive correlation, with a regression coefficient of 0.563, meaning each unit increase in teacher performance led to a 0.563 unit improvement in student outcomes. The coefficient of determination (R² = 0.276) indicated that 27.6% of the variance in student achievement was explained by teacher performance, while other unexamined factors affected 72.4%. A T-test supported these findings, with a significance level of 0.01 (below the 0.05 threshold) and a t-value of 2.724, exceeding the critical value of 2.005, confirming statistical significance. These results affirm that teacher performance significantly impacts students' mathematical achievement. However, the relatively low R² suggests that other variables—such as curriculum quality, student motivation, parental involvement, or classroom environment—play essential roles. Qualitatively, the study underscores the need for further research to explore broader determinants of educational success and strategies to enhance teacher performance. By integrating both methods, the study provides a comprehensive understanding of how teacher quality shapes student learning and highlights the complexity of educational outcomes that extend beyond teacher-related factors.
