Abstract

This study explains the shift in consumption patterns among communities from traditional foods to fast food. The purpose of this study is to explain the strategies used by the Nagari Kapau community in preserving the traditional Nasi Kapau dish in an era of globalization and modernization, such as KFC, McDonald's, and others. Bourdieu's Habitus Theory explains the ability of communities to adapt to modernization. The research methodology uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The results show that the community's strategies for preserving Nasi Kapau include (1) maintaining the authenticity of the recipe, (2) innovating and adapting to the modern era, utilizing social media and food service platforms as promotional tools, and (3) holding local cultural events. These efforts are carried out collectively by traders, families, and the local community as a form of social and cultural responsibility. Nasi Kapau has survived globalization thanks to the collective awareness of the community in preserving traditional cuisine through a combination of cultural preservation, innovation, and the use of technology. This strategy not only preserves local culture but also strengthens the social identity of the Minangkabau community in the modern era.

Abstract

The rapid development of the digital economy has significantly transformed trade structures in Indonesia, including traditional markets that have long been the backbone of community-based economic activities. This study aims to analyze the changes and impacts experienced by traditional traders in Pasar Raya Padang in the digital economy era. The research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and documentation, and analyzed using thematic analysis with source and method triangulation to ensure validity. The findings reveal that traditional traders in Pasar Raya Padang are undergoing social changes marked by adaptation gaps to digital technology. Younger traders tend to adopt social media platforms and electronic payment systems to expand their market reach, while older traders face difficulties due to limited digital literacy. The economic impact is ambivalent: adaptive traders experience increased income, while non-adaptive traders face declining sales. Socially, face-to-face interactions have decreased, yet new, more transactional relationships have emerged in digital spaces. This study concludes that Pasar Raya Padang represents a dynamic interaction between tradition and modernity, resulting in a hybrid form of trade. The findings highlight the importance of empowering traditional traders through digital literacy programs, supportive policies, and community collaboration to maintain the competitiveness of traditional markets in the digital era.

Abstract

Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM) is a state-owned financial institution that focuses on empowering underprivileged women through the Mekaar program. This program is expected to serve as initial capital for communities to improve their welfare through small-scale business activities. However, in practice, the utilization of loan funds does not always align with the initial objectives, as most beneficiaries tend to use the loans to meet daily household needs. This phenomenon is particularly interesting to study in Jorong Pinang Makmur, Timpeh Sub-district, Dharmasraya Regency. This study aims to examine the patterns of PNM Mekaar fund utilization by members, as well as to analyze the socio-economic dynamics that influence their decisions in managing these funds. Using a descriptive qualitative approach through interviews and observations, a total of 31 informants consisting of members and PNM account officers were analyzed using Max Weber's social action theory. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the majority of members use the loan funds for daily consumption and children's education (92%), while only a small portion (8%) use it for its intended purpose as business capital. This pattern of fund utilization is influenced by the economic pressures of underprivileged households, low financial literacy, limited business opportunities, and local socio-economic conditions. This phenomenon reflects Weber's form of social rationality, in which members' economic actions are not only driven by capitalist productive logic but also by instrumental goals, value orientations, and social norms to maintain the group's survival and honor. Thus, the utilization of PNM Mekaar funds in the research location functions more as a means of supporting basic needs than as a means of developing productive businesses, which implies the need for program evaluation in a social context.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research is motivated by the agrarian conflict between PT Permata Hijau Pasaman (PHP) and the community of Nagari Kapa, Luhak Nan Duo District, West Pasaman Regency. The conflict, which began in 1997, continues to drag on and has yet to find a complete resolution or a solution that can completely end the problem. The purpose of this research is to analyze the dynamics of this agrarian conflict by emphasizing how the customary land dispute has dragged on. The analytical framework uses Simon Fisher's conflict theory through the Stages of Conflict, which views conflict as a dynamic process ranging from pre-conflict, confrontation, crisis, outcome, to post-conflict. The research approach is qualitative with a descriptive type. Primary data was obtained through in-depth interviews with nine informants, while secondary data came from official documents, government archives, and related literature. Data analysis was carried out using the Miles and Huberman model through the stages of data collection, reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The research results show that the conflict began with the handover of 1,600 hectares of customary land in 1997 without involving the entire community. The confrontation phase was evident through community rejection of the distribution of plasma land, which was deemed inconsistent with the agreement. The crisis peaked in 2024 when the company replanted land claimed by the community, leading to clashes with authorities. Efforts to resolve the conflict through village meetings, government mediation, and legal advocacy by civil society organizations have yielded no results. Keyword: Agrarian Conflict, Customary Land, Community

Abstract

This study examines the adaptation strategies of single-parent female farm labor in Nagari Koto Salak, Dharmasraya Regency, who face multiple social and economic challenges. With unstable incomes below the regional minimum wage, they are solely responsible for household needs, including daily consumption and children’s education, while constrained by low education levels, limited access to resources, and minimal social support. Using John W. Bennett’s (1976) framework of adaptation strategies—behavioral, tactical, and process—this research employs a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through non-participant observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis, involving eight main informants and eight supporting informants selected through purposive sampling. The findings reveal three key strategies: reducing consumption (behavioral), utilizing household resources, seasonal savings groups (arisan), income diversification, and borrowing (tactical), as well as participation in social groups such as dasawisma, religious study groups, and farmer groups (process). These strategies highlight the resilience and adaptive capacity of women in sustaining family livelihoods under vulnerable conditions.

Abstract

Minangkabau local wisdom-based educational tourism is an approach that integrates elements of education, recreation, and sustainable cultural preservation. Kubu Gadang Tourism Village in Padang Panjang City is a concrete example of the application of this concept through various traditional activities, such as making onde-onde, planting rice, playing traditional musical instruments, randai, traditional pacu upiah games, and making pupuik from rice stalks. These activities are not only tourist attractions, but also a means of contextual cultural learning for the younger generation because they can learn directly through real experiences, interactions with local communities, and appreciation of the traditional values that live in the community. This study aims to examine how Minangkabau local wisdom-based educational tourism can foster cultural identity among the younger generation. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study show that the involvement of young people in various educational tourism activities increases their knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of Minangkabau cultural values. In addition, these activities strengthen their sense of belonging, pride, and responsibility for their cultural identity, while encouraging the active participation of young people in efforts to preserve traditions. These findings indicate that Minangkabau-based educational tourism has great potential as an effective medium for transmitting cultural values to future generations in a sustainable manner amid the rapid pace of globalization. This study recommends strengthening collaboration between the community, government, educational institutions, and the private sector to develop more structured, innovative, and sustainable educational tourism programs so that Minangkabau cultural values can continue to be instilled in the younger generation, thereby strengthening, solidifying, and preserving their cultural identity.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the implementation of the Independent Curriculum, which emphasizes student-centered learning, alignment with learners’ needs, and greater learning freedom. In practice, however, traditional teaching methods, limited use of technology, and the need for a positive school culture remain challenges. Therefore, the role of Teacher Leaders as agents of change becomes crucial in promoting innovation, collaboration, and quality improvement at Senior High School 4 South Solok. The study aims to describe the role of Teacher Leaders in implementing the Independent Curriculum, particularly in guiding teachers and students to utilize technology. It employs Talcott Parsons’ structural functional theory with the AGIL scheme, which states that every social system must fulfill adaptation, goal attainment, integration, and latency. A descriptive qualitative approach was applied through field research, with purposive sampling involving Teacher Leaders, non-Teacher Leaders, and students. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model.Findings reveal that Teacher Leaders serve as facilitators, motivators, initiators, and innovators through several programs. The ICT-Based Learning Competency Development Program helps students learn physics with technology despite limited laboratory facilities. HELING (Healthy and Environmentally Friendly Living) raises environmental awareness while motivating students in chemistry. The Change Initiative introduces innovation into sociology learning using interactive digital applications, while the Positive Culture program builds a safe classroom climate and student responsibility. These initiatives demonstrate that Teacher Leaders not only bring innovation but also engage students and colleagues in collaboration, creating a dynamic, enjoyable, and student-oriented learning atmosphere consistent with the Independent Curriculum. Keyword: Teacher Leaders, Independent Curriculum, agents of change.

Abstract

Sustainable tourism is a crucial issue in regional development, focusing not only on economic growth but also on environmental sustainability and strengthening local cultural identity. Pengubaian Beach in Kaur Regency, Bengkulu, is a tourist destination with significant potential but faces several challenges in its management. This study aims to identify the driving factors and challenges in developing sustainable tourism at Pengubaian Beach. The method used was a qualitative approach, with data collection techniques including in-depth interviews, field observations, and documentation. Research informants were selected using a purposive sampling technique involving local business actors, tourists, and community leaders. Data analysis employed the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which encompasses data reduction, data presentation, conclusion drawing, and verification. The results indicate that natural beauty, community participation, and village government support are the main driving factors. However, various challenges remain, such as limited infrastructure, minimal supporting facilities, dependence on weather conditions, land ownership issues, and the absence of formal institutions such as the Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis). The study's conclusions confirm that Pengubaian Beach has the potential to become a sustainable tourism destination, provided there is institutional strengthening, infrastructure improvement, and more intensive collaboration between the government, community, and the private sector
