Abstract

The aim of this research is to find out the benefit of herbal medicine for health service in primitive communities, especially women of childbearing age. The research team applied mixed-method and used questionnaire and exploratory survey by doing interview and direct observation to collect the data. The result of the research showed that there were 68 samples of women(100%) after childbirth or in childbearing age consumed herbal medicine. There were eight types of medicinal herbs that people consumed, they were turi leaf (Sesbania Grandiflora), binahong leaf (Anredera Cordifolia (tenore) steen), gedi leaf (Abelmoschus Manihot L), katuk leaf (Sauropus Androgynus), turmeric, ginger, jamu gendong (jamu being carried on the back) and herbal medicines (jamu) in sachets. The existence of cultural aspects that continue for generations caused the high use of herbal medicines. People gradually felt great benefits of consuming herbal medicines with less or even none negative impacts. It was easy to find herbal medicines or jamu in the market. That is the big reason why people, especially women of childbearing age, prefered consuming herbal medicines than other medicines. The government and related institutions should be able to control the use of this herbal medicines. Legal license of medicines has to be controlled to avoid bad impacts on people, especially women of childbearing age.

Abstract

The study aims at determining what factors influence the behavior of pulmonary tuberculosis patients in preventing the transmission of pulmonary tuberculosis at the Garoga Health Center, Garoga District, North Tapanuli Regency in 2022. This type of research uses a descriptive analytic survey with a cross sectional design. The population in this study amounted to 48 people, while the sample amounted to 48 people. Data analysis was carried out by univariate, bivariate and multivariate analysis. The results of the chi square test showed that there was a relationship between 7 variables, namely knowledge, using masks, not spitting carelessly, consuming OAT regularly, isolation, PMO and culture had a p-value <α 0.05, meaning knowledge, using masks, not spitting. indiscriminately, taking OAT regularly, isolation, PMO and culture affect the prevention of pulmonary TB transmission at the Karoga health center, and the multivariate test has 6 knowledge variables, not spitting carelessly, consuming OAT regularly, isolation, PMO and culture affect. the results of multiple logistic regression tests shows that the variable consuming OAT regularly is the most dominant with an odds ratio (OR) of 52,990, meaning that it affects the prevention of pulmonary TB 53 times. The conclusion is that the dominant variable that most influences the prevention of pulmonary TB transmission at the Karoga Health Center is consuming OAT on a regular basis. It is recommended for patients with pulmonary TB to comply with all recommendations from health workers, including taking anti-tuberculosis drugs so that pulmonary TB patients can recover from their disease.

Abstract

The Government of Bangladesh is establishing community clinics to provide essential healthcare services on the doorstep of the citizens of the country. In Bangladesh, women are the most vulnerable group in case of morbidity and mortality, especially in rural areas. They are unaware and underutilize the health care services provided by community clinics. The objective of the present study was to investigate the association of socio-economic and demographic variables with awareness of community clinics and also with the usage of services for health care from these clinics among the ever-wedded women of childbearing age. Bangladesh Demographic and Health Survey (BDHS), 2017-18 data were used in this research study. The study findings reveal that 56% of women who were ever-married were aware of healthcare services provided by community clinics situated in their residential area and 15.6% of women utilized such community clinic services in the 90 days preceding the survey. In this study, by applying bivariate chi-squared (χ2) test, some demographic, social, and economic variables are identified closely associated with consciousness about community clinics and usage of healthcare services from such clinics among women who were aged 15-49 and ever-married. The variables are marital status, educational qualification, working status, type of place of residence, administrative division, the economic condition of the household, ownership of mobile, number of members in the family, and husband’s educational qualification. The government and policymakers should take necessary initiatives to increase the public awareness and utilization of community clinic services. Community clinics should introduce special healthcare facilities for specific groups such as pregnant women or adolescents to increase the utilization of community clinic services.
