Abstract

Sustainable food yards are a garden-based crop cultivation program aimed at achieving family food security. Women's farmer groups are the main subjects implementing the sustainable food yards program in the Tasikmadu District. The implementation of the sustainable food yards program in Tasikmadu District continues to face challenges related to empowering KWT members. This study aims to examine the empowerment of KWT members, analyze the factors shaping their empowerment, and assess the influence of these factors on their empowerment in the sustainable food barn program. The population of this study was members of the Madu Arum KWT in Tasikmadu District, with a sample of 54 respondents. The data analysis method used multiple linear regression analysis. The results found that the empowerment of KWT members was influenced by age, non-formal education, family support, group role, extension worker role, and government support. This study is the first to identify variables that directly influence the empowerment of KWT members in Tasikmadu District, thereby providing a basis for policy interventions related to sustainable food yards. Strategic focus is essential to improve non-formal education, strengthen the role of groups, and optimize the important contribution of extension workers to achieve better empowerment and increase program effectiveness.

Abstract

Rural tourism development in agricultural regions requires innovative integration strategies to enhance local economic sustainability. However, most agritourism models still emphasize farm-based attractions, limiting integration opportunities for regions dominated by non-agricultural tourism. This study aims to propose an alternative agritourism development model by integrating non-agricultural tourism attractions with coffee agribusiness, referred to as integral agritourism, in Latimojong Village, Indonesia. A qualitative case study approach was employed using SWOT analysis based on in-depth interviews with 21 key stakeholders, including coffee farmers, tourism actors, academics, and visitors. The results indicate that the integration strategy is positioned in Quadrant I (growth strategy), reflecting strong internal capabilities and favorable external opportunities. The main strengths include superior coffee quality and strategic access to tourist markets, while significant opportunities arise from tourism-based branding and market expansion. In conclusion, integral agritourism extends conventional agritourism concepts by embedding agricultural products within existing tourism experiences and offers a replicable strategy for integrated rural development and sustainable local branding.

Abstract

Coffee is a strategic plantation commodity that plays an important role as a source of income for farmers and a contributor to foreign exchange. The national coffee demand, which increases by 8% per year, is not offset by a decrease in production from 771 thousand tons (2022) to 756.1 thousand tons (2023), due to climate change, pest attacks, and a lack of plant rejuvenation. The global trend towards organic and specialty coffee opens up opportunities for sustainable agribusiness development. This study aims to analyze the feasibility of organic and inorganic coffee farming purposively in Kayumas Village, Situbondo Regency, with 60 respondents selected through quota sampling from two farmer groups. Data were obtained from secondary sources and analyzed using investment criteria: NPV, Net B/C, IRR, and PP. The results of the analysis show that: (1) the NPV of organic and inorganic farming is positive at Rp13,125,667/ha and Rp6,493,270/ha at an interest rate of 6%; (2) the Net B/C value is 2.02 and 1.59, respectively; (3) The IRR is higher than the interest rate, namely 22.06% and 38.06%; and (4) the Payback Period of both farming systems is faster than their economic life, namely an average of 2 years. Organic coffee farming offers higher profitability and greater feasibility than inorganic farming, making it more promising for development amid the increasing demand for organic coffee and the need for sustainable agribusiness. These findings provide a basis for farmers and policymakers in making decisions about developing efficient, sustainability-oriented coffee farming businesses.

Abstract

The growing public awareness of environmental issues has encouraged green craft small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to communicate their sustainability values more effectively through digital media. Instagram is a relevant platform because it can visually convey sustainability messages through photos, videos, and carousels, while allowing audience responses to be measured through engagement rate. However, research on audience engagement among green craft SMEs in Indonesia has yet to be conducted. Therefore, this study aims to measure the engagement rate of Instagram accounts for green craft SMEs, analyze the influence of follower count on engagement rate, and evaluate engagement rates by content format. This study is the first to analyze engagement rates for Instagram accounts of green craft SMEs across content formats and follower counts. The sample consisted of 16 Instagram accounts selected using a purposive sampling method that met the following criteria: producing green craft products, having more than 5,000 followers, and actively posting sustainability-related content. Data were collected from the 30 most recent posts of each account as of July 2025, including follower counts, likes, comments, and content formats such as photos, videos, and carousels. A descriptive, quantitative method was used to measure and evaluate engagement rates by content format, while Spearman’s correlation analysis was applied to examine the influence of follower count on engagement rate. The results show that the average engagement rate of Instagram accounts of green craft SMEs was 2.29%, categorized as moderate; video content generated the highest engagement rate, while follower count did not significantly affect engagement rate. Based on these findings, green craft SMEs are advised to prioritize video content and develop consistent sustainability narratives, while government support can focus on Instagram training that emphasizes sustainability messaging.

Abstract

The great potential of South Sulawesi Province as a national food hub for horticultural commodities, such as vegetables and fruits, has not been fully realized. This is due to fundamental constraints, including limited product diversification, seasonal and small-scale production, and inefficient marketing channels, which result in low and unstable prices at the farmer level. In addition, policy planning for this sector's development has so far been based on insufficient identification of leading commodities, grounded in data and in-depth analysis at the provincial level. Previous studies have also been limited to analysis at the district or sub-district level, so they cannot be used as an adequate basis for formulating regional horticultural development strategies in South Sulawesi. This study addresses this need by analyzing horticultural commodities using the Location Quotient (LQ) and Shift-Share approaches. The novelty of this study lies in its provincial-level analysis of horticultural commodities (vegetables and fruits) in South Sulawesi. The objectives of this study are (1) to analyze the base sector of horticultural commodities in South Sulawesi Province; (2) to analyze the net growth value of horticultural commodities in South Sulawesi Province; and (3) to analyze leading horticultural commodities in South Sulawesi Province. The LQ analysis using 2024 data successfully identified 16 commodities as the base sector. Then, the Shift Share analysis identified 21 commodities experiencing progressive net growth. By integrating these two results, this study successfully mapped priority commodities. Commodities such as cayenne pepper, shallots, tomatoes, duku, and durian are leading commodities (Quadrant I) with strong production bases and bright growth prospects, making them a top priority in regional agricultural development planning.

Abstract

Coffee farmer certification serves as a strategic tool in promoting sustainable agricultural practices, but implementation remains low at the farmer level. This study aims to fill this gap by conducting a comprehensive review of the relevant literature through a bibliometric and content analysis approach to identify research trends, major publishing countries, key affiliations, main themes, and the direction of coffee certification development and its impact on agricultural sustainability in various economic, social, and environmental dimensions. This study uses the Scopus database, with an initial dataset of 206 articles published over 10 years (2015–2025). After applying inclusion criteria covering economics, management, and business; English-language articles; duplicate removal; and topic relevance, 63 articles were selected for final analysis. The data were analyzed using PRISMA diagrams, R-Studio software, and VOSviewer. Results showed that publications on coffee certification have increased at an average annual growth rate of 2.81%, with World Development and Ecological Economics as the most productive journals. Germany, the United States, and the Netherlands emerged as the leading contributors. The most frequently used keywords were certification, coffee, smallholders, and sustainability. Content identification results showed that certification positively affects economic, social, and environmental dimensions. The scientific contribution to farmers is that implementing certification will increase the selling value of coffee, thereby increasing income, consumer confidence, strengthening cooperatives and farmer solidarity, and providing wider access to markets for adopting sustainable agriculture. This study also enriches the literature on the impact of coffee certification on sustainability, providing policymakers with insights to improve institutional support and regulatory frameworks for farmer-level coffee certification, such as training and financial capital.

Abstract

This research examined patterns in consumer choices and the socioeconomic factors influencing the choice of essential oil-based perfumes in Subang Regency. Empirical data were collected from 100 participants through structured questionnaires and processed using multivariate regression techniques. Results showed that most respondents preferred unisex scents, 8-hour longevity, spray-type packaging, 50 ml packaging, single-unit packaging, and a price point of IDR 150,000. The findings indicate that demographic attributes such as age, educational attainment, and earnings, expenditures, and number of family members collectively exert a meaningful influence on consumer preference formation within the observed context. A partial analysis shows that only income and the number of family members significantly influence consumer preferences. These findings provide empirical insight into consumer behavior toward essential oil-based perfumes and can serve as a reference for product development and marketing strategy for perfume producers.

Abstract

Organic farming is crucial for the sustainability of coastal ecosystems, yet its adoption in Bone Bolango Regency remains low due to suboptimal extension strategies. This study employs a mixed methods approach aimed at: (1) identifying priority materials for farmers in Bone Bolango; (2) analyzing extension need gaps; and (3) formulating participatory extension strategies to accelerate the adoption of organic farming. Data were collected through a survey of 366 farmers and in-depth interviews with 20 key informants. The analysis employed the Rank Discrepancy Score (RDS) to measure gap needs and thematic analysis for qualitative data. Results indicate that farmers prioritize technical materials, specifically pest and disease control (RDS = 4.21) and organic fertilization (RDS = 3.87), while institutional aspects are considered less urgent. The Wilcoxon test confirmed a significant gap (p < 0.001) between the importance of materials and farmers’ current understanding. This study recommends reorienting extension strategies to be more participatory and focused on practical technical solutions to enhance organic farming adoption in coastal areas.

Abstract

Population growth and land-use conversion continue to pressure rice production in Indonesia, increasing the need to identify priority regions for Kawasan Sentra Produksi Pangan (KSPP), Indonesia’s Food Production Center Zones under the 2025–2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan. This study aims to identify priority areas for rice-based food production in South Sumatra Province using a descriptive-quantitative approach. The analysis applies Location Quotient (LQ) and Shift-Share Analysis (SSA) to assess specialization, competitive performance, and structural growth of rice production across districts and cities from 2020 to 2024. The results indicate that South Sumatra records an average rice LQ of 0.92 relative to the national level, showing that rice has not yet become a national-scale base commodity despite notable spatial disparities. SSA results reveal strong regional contrasts. East OKU District records the highest Competitive Effect at 59,533 tons, while Banyuasin District records the highest Industrial Mix Effect at 37,545 tons, indicating rapid growth aligned with the provincial food-crop structure. The integration of LQ and SSA identifies six priority areas: Ogan Ilir, Ogan Komering Ilir, Pagar Alam, Muara Enim, Penukal Abab Lematang Ilir, and East OKU District. The novelty of this study lies in producing a province-wide priority mapping based on a single strategic commodity. The analysis is limited by its focus on three food crops and by the exclusion of biophysical factors. Despite these limitations, the findings provide an empirical basis for determining KSPP priority zones and guiding rice-based regional development planning.
