Abstract

The aim of this research was to observe influence of soy concentrate addition as binder to sausage toward pH value, water holding capacity, cooking loss, dan emulsion stability.  The experiment used a randomized block design with 5 levels 0, 5, 10, 15, and 20% soy concentrate with 4 repetitions included on the block.  The data were analyzed by Analysis of Variance and Duncan’s Multiple Range Test.  The result showed that there were no significant (P>0,05)  on pH value, water holding capacity of sousage, and cooking loss, but there was significant (P<0,05) on emulsion stability.  In conclusion, soy concentrate can be used  up to 20% on  beef  sausage.

Abstract

This research aims to study and determine the effect of crickets flour supplementation of feed on performance of quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica). The material used is Day Old Quail (DOQ) were 70 individuals (35 males and 35 females), commercial rations for laying hens and crickets  flour. Experiments designed to completely randomized design factorial 2x5 pattern. The first factor gender (male and female), the second factor adding crickets flour  into a commercial ration (0%, 2%, 4%, 6% and 8% of the ration). Each treatment was repeated 7 times. Variables observed in this study is consumption, body weight gain, conversion and carcass percentage. Data were analyzed using the Fingerprint Variety of RAL factorial ANOVA. Further test of the simple effect or primary conducted using Duncan's Multiple Range Test (DMRT). The results showed that supplementation of crickets flour in feed did not affect on feed consumption, but it influenced on body weight gain, feed conversion ratio and carcass percentage of male and female Japanese quail.

Abstract

The study was conducted to investigate the effect of kalium iodide (KI) administration to tyroid gland weight, and body weight gain, and rectal temperature of postweaning PE goat. Nine postweaning PE goat alloted into three treatments : P0 (control), P1 (0.1 ml KI), and P2 (0.2 ml KI), KI administered twice a week. Variables observed were tyroid gland weight, final body weight and rectal temperature. Data analized by ANOVA using GLM procedure of SPSS. The weight of tyroid gland of P0, P1, P2 were 2.0988 mg, 1,5650 mg, and 2.0088 mg respectively. The treatment  affected (P<0.05) bodyweight gain  without change of rectal temperature (P>0.05). Inconclusion, 0.1 ml KI adminitration twice a week increased body weight gain, lighter tyroid gland weight without effect to rectal temperature.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to investigate carcass and non-carcass persentation of buffalo bull slaughtered in Kota Jambi Slaughter House. Sixty buffalo bulls consisted of 30 two-pair incissor bulls (I2) and 30 four-pair incissor bulls (I4). The data collected were body weight, carcass weight, non-carcass weight. Body weight of I2 was 338.56 ± 18,5 kg and I4 was 397.48 ± 45,5 kg. The carcass weight were  148.56 kg (43.89%) and 169,36 kg (43.72%) for I2 and I4 respectively. Non-carcass weigth were 137,40 kg (43,89%)  in I2 and 157,19 kg ( 40,57 %) in I4 . In conclusion, the age had no effect to carcass and non-carcass weight in buffalo bulls.

Abstract

In  Pemayung and Muara Bulian Subdistrict, Batanghari District, the population of sheep is relatively high. However, information on  genetic characteristics of the sheep has not been well-identified yet . Therefore, in order to reach one of the objectives of veterinary development, conservating local breeds, it is necessary to know blood protein polymorphism of the sheep. One way to identify genetic characteristic of the sheep is by analizing blood protein  electrophoretically. The research is aimed at analizing genetic characteristics of sheep in Batanghari District, including characteristics of blood protein by electrophoresis to know blood protein polymorphism patterns. Blood samples were taken from 20 sheep, 10 sheep from Pemayung Subdistrict and 10 sheep from Muara Bulian Subdistrict. Analysis was conducted at Livestock Molecular  Genetic Laboratory Veterinary Faculty Bogor Agriculture Institute. Allelic Frequency was directly calculated with Hardy-weinberg proportion and genetic distance is was calculated with method of Nei . The result of electrophoretic analysis  has found 5 kinds of proteins ; Albumin, Postalbumin, Transferin, Posttransferin-1 and Posttransferin-2. Albumin and Postalbumin are controlled by 2 alleles ; Allele A=0,6 and allele B=0,4, Transferin is controlled by 4 alleles ; allele A = 0,025, allele B=0,50, allele C=0,45, and allele D=0,025. Posttransferin-1 and posttransferin-2 are controlled by an allele; allele A=1,00. In conclusion, there are 5 kinds of blood protein, they are Albumin, Postalbumin, Transferin, Posttransferin-1 and Posttransferin-2.Polymorphism is detected in 3 loci; Albumin, Postalbumin and Transferin with Heterozigocity Average 0,29 in Pemayung Subdistrict and 0,287 in Muara Bulian Subdistrict. Albumin and Postalbumin loci can be considered as main genetic characteristics.
