Abstract

This study explores integrating local architectural concepts into the design of river-based facilities, focusing on the Walanae River in Paduppa, Wajo Regency, Indonesia. The area's rich cultural heritage and abundant natural resources offer significant potential for sustainable and community-centered development. Using a mixed-method approach that includes qualitative field observations, in-depth interviews with local stakeholders, and a systematic literature review guided by the PRISMA framework, the research identifies key traditional architectural elements. These elements encompass stilt house structures, the use of natural materials such as bamboo and wood, spatial layouts aligned with natural contours, and sustainable water management techniques. The findings reveal that incorporating these elements addresses critical environmental challenges, including flooding and erosion, while simultaneously enhancing ecological efficiency, cultural identity, and environmental sustainability. This integrative methodology provides a framework for harmonizing traditional and modern architectural practices. By synthesizing practical insights from field research with a robust literature analysis, the study delivers valuable guidance for urban planners and architects in designing river-based facilities that balance cultural relevance with ecological sustainability. Additionally, the research contributes to the global discourse on sustainable architecture by offering a replicable model for incorporating local architectural traditions into contemporary urban designs. This approach holds significant implications for similar ecological and cultural contexts worldwide, emphasizing the importance of preserving local heritage while addressing modern urban development challenges.

Abstract

The causes of laser-assisted tattoo removal difficulties are currently poorly known, and the literature on tattoo removal focuses more on removal methods and equipment than on the ideal treatment parameters, particularly temperature. This study aims to assess the surface temperature in complex eyebrow tattoo removal. This was done for 55 patients aged 22 to 43 years, who were treated with a phi laser (Nd-Yag) 1064 nm in the removal process, with a power of 1000 mJ, a frequency of 3 Hz, and a laser spot size of 8 mm. The surface temperature of the skin during tattoo removal was measured using the FLIR thermal camera. The results were analyzed by testing the normal state of the distribution. The Shapiro-Wilk and Kolmogorov-Smirnov tests were used. A total of 55 people finished full treatment. Three laser sessions were needed on average to achieve the patient's goal (total removal, attenuation for repetition or correction). The results after comparing temperatures showed that the patient's age and skin type have a significant influence on the distribution of skin temperature. As one gets older, the amount of energy absorbed increases. In addition, increased laser absorption is associated with dark skin tones. The benefit of deepening understanding is that it shows temperature distribution in the tissues of the affected area and the surrounding area during laser irradiation, providing a guiding and reference function for the effect of photothermal therapy.

Abstract

The electrical activity of the heart is measured and recorded using an electrocardiogram, often known as an EKG or ECG, which is a basic diagnostic tool in cardiology. Electrodes are applied to the patient's skin during this non-invasive process in order to record the electrical impulses generated during the cardiac cycle. Cardiac arrhythmia signifies an abnormal heart rate or rhythm. When the heart beats too rapidly or irregularly, its pumping efficiency decreases, potentially reducing blood flow to the brain. This can lead to fainting, dizziness, or even death if not promptly addressed. The proposed health monitoring system is a comprehensive, portable solution designed to monitor key cardiovascular indicators—specifically, heart rate and blood oxygen saturation (SpO2)—in real-time. The system integrates two microcontrollers: an Arduino Mega and a NodeMCU. The Arduino Mega is responsible for displaying ECG waveforms on a TFT screen, as well as calculating and displaying the heart rate. This is achieved through an ECG sensor connected to the Arduino, which plots the heart's electrical activity on the display. A potentiometer allows users to set a customizable threshold line on the ECG waveform, which is used to count heartbeats. The heart rate is calculated based on the number of beats detected per second. If the heart rate falls below or rises above the normal range, the system alerts the user by displaying "Bradycardia" or "Tachycardia," respectively. Meanwhile, the NodeMCU module is connected to a MAX30100 sensor, which measures SpO2 levels. The sensor data is wirelessly transmitted to the Arduino Mega, where it is displayed on the TFT screen alongside the ECG data. This dual-functionality system not only provides continuous monitoring of vital signs but also offers immediate feedback on potential heart conditions, making it an essential tool for proactive health management.

Abstract

The integration of Case-Based Reasoning (CBR) with Machine Learning (ML) has emerged as a promising approach to improve decision-making processes in various domains. This systematic review synthesizes the current state of research on hybrid models combining CBR and ML, identifying methodologies, applications, and key challenges. Through a comprehensive search of academic databases, we identified and analyzed 46 relevant studies published from 2019 to 2024. The study found that integrating CBR and ML is highly effective in domains that require historical context, improving accuracy and predictive performance. Key findings include the successful application of hybrid models in improving accuracy. However, the review also highlighted several challenges, including the complexity of model integration, the need for large and diverse data sets, and difficulties in interpreting hybrid model results. Systematic research on Case-Based Reasoning solutions remains limited. Therefore, this study analyzes the integration methods used in the CBR approach for decision-making across various fields, aiming to identify the characteristics of internal similarity. It is concluded that CBR has two significant impact factors, namely the type of similarity attribute and the way of similarity calculation, which determine the assessment process. Future research should focus on developing standardized methodologies for integrating CBR and ML, exploring the potential of hybrid models in emerging fields. This systematic review provides a basic understanding of the synergistic potential of CBR and ML and offers valuable insights for researchers and practitioners.

Abstract

Fire safety remains a critical concern, particularly in managing electrical flow during fire incidents. Despite advances in detection technologies, most existing systems still cannot autonomously disrupt electrical circuits during the early stages of a fire. This study addresses that gap by proposing a novel device engineered to immediately sever electrical power upon detecting smoke from smoldering combustion in the surrounding environment. The core objective is not only to prevent fire escalation but also to reimagine and reinforce electrical safety in residential buildings. To achieve this, researchers carefully selected and integrated high-reliability electrical and electronic components, emphasizing operational efficiency and responsiveness. The experimental phase focused on evaluating key performance indicators—most notably, the latching mechanism’s response efficiency. Sensitivity to smoke from a range of combustible materials was assessed by placing the materials 8 and 10 feet from the sensor. Time-response measurements quantified detection sensitivity, revealing performance variability influenced by environmental conditions and smoke density. The resulting smoke detector with an integrated latching mechanism emerges as a pivotal innovation—capable of automatically disconnecting residential electrical systems in real time. This advancement instills greater confidence in both firefighting professionals and occupants, enabling safer, more proactive fire suppression strategies, particularly those involving water. Beyond its immediate safety applications, the system offers seamless integration potential, setting a new benchmark for residential electrical infrastructure. Overall, this research advances the field of fire safety and contributes meaningfully to modernizing residential protection systems.
