Jurnal Review Politik (JRP) is a high-quality peer-reviewed research journal published by the Department of Islamic Political Thought, Faculty of Ushuluddin and Philosophy, Sunan Ampel State Islamic University, Surabaya. The languages used are Indonesian and English. JRP is published twice a year, June and December. The journal focuses on the studies of Islamic Political Thought, political science, religion and politics, governance issues, and public policies in Indonesia and other Islamic countries. The journal publishes theoretical and empirical research articles to promote and disseminate the academic atmosphere in and around the regions. The journal has areas of concern that include political science, Indonesian politics, gender politics and identity, community welfare, social development, citizenship and public management, public policy, international politics & security, media, information & literacy, religion and politics, digital society and disruption, civil society movement, governance & democracy, radicalism, and terrorism.

Abstract

The concept of power today is much influenced by the thoughts of John Locke. The power shaped by John Locke gives this country a liberal character. Individual rights are at the centre of all interests. In the history of Islam, some concepts have been very important in shaping Islamic perceptions of democracy. This research is library research because it is library research. The approach used is a historical-philosophical approach. This paper dissects John Locke's democratic thinking, which is analysed using the democratic thinking of a contemporary Muslim intellectual, namely Abu A'la Maududi. Theo-democracy is a system of government initiated by Al-Maududi by combining the concepts of monotheism and trias politica. The Al-Maududi Islamic State must be built on the basis of Islam, which is the main foundation of Tawhid. According to Maududi, power in the form of sovereignty is based primarily on God's sovereignty rather than the sovereignty of the people. The theo-democratic system is divided into three institutions: the legislature, executive, and judiciary.

Abstract

This study investigates local government’s opportunities for implementing religious multiculturalism policies, which refer to the regional autonomy system. The subject of this research is Tangerang City, Banten Province, which has an urban and pluralistic image of society due to its location as a buffer for the city capital. Data collection in this study used a qualitative method which refers to in-depth interviews of 15 respondents who came from representatives of the government and religious leaders. In addition, secondary data in this study relates to observations, field notes, documentation, and relevant literature. The result of this study indicates several indicators that lead to the possibility for Tangerang City’s local government to apply a religious multiculturalism policy: government institutions in strengthening harmony and handling religious conflicts. The Religious Harmony Forum (FKUB) promotes religious harmony, a grant program to accommodate the needs of religious groups, a supportive and open-minded Mayor, cultural and religious festivals, successful resolution of religious conflict, and intensive dialogue between religious leaders.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze by comparing the political interests of the PDI-P and the Democratic Party in addressing the presidential threshold (PT). The research uses a qualitative method with data sourced from the results of DPR meetings, books, journals and news. The research finding is that the PDI-P and the Democratic Party have a political interest in addressing the presidential threshold. When in power, the Democrat Party initially shared the same view as the PDI-P in supporting PT at least 20-25 percent. However, this attitude changed when the Democratic Party was no longer in power and was unable to nominate a presidential candidate from his party. The Democratic Party after the 2014 election until now has refused PT 20-25 percent and asked for PT 0 percent. Meanwhile, the PDI-P is consistent in supporting the PT 20-25 percent and has always been able to nominate presidential candidates from their own party. PDI-P can nominate president from the party in 2024 because it has passed the minimum PT. The two political parties share an interest, where currently the PDI-P wants to maintain power with a high PT, while the Democrat Party wants to seize power with a low PT so that it can nominate president from its own party.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the news of the progress of KH. Muhaimin Iskandar in the 2024 presidential election which received positive and negative comments among the public, including from alumni of the Mamba'ul Ma'arif Denanyar Islamic boarding school, Jombang. Santri alumni are considered to have different thoughts about the world of politics compared to when they were still students who were known for their obedience to the Kiai. Alumni have been influenced by various factors which ultimately shape new thinking about social and political issues. This study aims to determine how big the level of popularity, acceptability, and electability of KH. Muhaimin Iskandar in the 2024 presidential election among alumni of the Mamba'ul Ma'arif Islamic boarding school students, Denanyar, Jombang. This study uses the concept of popularity, acceptability, and electability theory. The type of research used in this research is descriptive quantitative research method. This study used a sample of 98 respondents which was carried out by random sampling technique. Data collection techniques are observation, questionnaires, and documentation. While the data analysis used percentage descriptive analysis with the SPSS application. The results of this study indicate the level of popularity of Muhaimin Iskandar in the 2024 presidential election among alumni of Mamba'ul Ma'arif Denanyar Islamic boarding school students by 84.7%, acceptability by 73.5% and electability by 65.3%. Total electability of KH. Muhaimin Iskandar is rated lower than the sum of his popularity and acceptability. This shows that there are alumni of Mamba'ul Ma'arif Denanyar Jombang Islamic boarding school students who only know or accept, not choose KH. Muhaimin Iskandar as president in 2024. Alumni of the Mamba'ul Ma'arif Islamic boarding school Denanyar Jombang are also multi-party, but the party with the highest electability is the National Awakening Party (PKB).

Abstract

The migrant crisis that occurred back in 2015 has sparked various political turbulence in European countries. One of the highest “first-time application” countries is Hungary. But as the number of asylum seekers grows, the Hungarian government considered itself overburdened and thus decided to take action to limit the inflow number of asylum-seekers. This situation gives Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and his Fidesz Party a way to keep campaigning for anti-immigrant policy which he believes will gain massive support. This journal uses a mixed-research method to find out the relation between the winning Fidesz Party with the number of incoming asylum seekers in Hungary. The analysis will be based on a regression process to determine the correlation between the votes that caused the Fidesz Party to win the last five general elections of Hungary with the quantity of asylum seekers in Hungary during the election year and supported by data observed from literature research.

Abstract

This research analyses the motives behind Russia's military invasion of Ukraine's sovereign territory in 2022. The invasion is a continuation of Russia's invasion of Crimea in 2014, and is part of a long history of conflict in the Eastern European region. This qualitative research focuses on Russia's perspective and how the country sees the main reasons for the conflict, namely the formation of 'the near abroad' policy and its link to the expansion of the US-led NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) alliance. Using the theory of structural realism, this study tries to provide preliminary assumptions of motives with the conditions of international structures and their impact on Russia. This assumption is then strengthened by the elaboration of opinions from related research subjects, which can confirm these assumptions.

Abstract

This research aims to explain the effectiveness of Hajj diplomacy carried out by the Indonesian Ministry of Religion (KEMENAG) in resolving various problems of Indonesian Hajj pilgrims based on Law Number 8 of 2019 concerning the Implementation of the Hajj and Umrah Pilgrimage. This research uses the concept of Hajj Diplomacy. Based on the results of this research, it can be seen that the actions taken by the Indonesian Ministry of Religion in overcoming Hajj problems are quite significant as evidenced by several things, namely cooperation with Saudi Arabia to obtain additional quotas from other countries, the Minister of Religion ensuring the preparation of Hajj services in Saudi Arabia, the Ministry of Religion optimizing functions Head of the group and team leader in the process of carrying out the Hajj, the Ministry of Religion is developing a reporting system for the implementation of Android-based worship guidance and the Ministry of Religion will also field a team of Hajj Consultants. Therefore, through these results it can be concluded that the Hajj diplomacy carried out by the Indonesian Ministry of Religion in 2020-2023 has been quite effective as proven by being able to implement Law Number 8 of 2019 concerning the Implementation of the Hajj and Umrah Pilgrimage Article 29 paragraph (1) and (2).
