Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract              Feline Panleukopenia is a disease caused by a DNA type virus, family Parvoviridae with high morbidity and mortality in the Felidae family group (Kruse et al., 2010; Hartmann, 2017). The study also shows that the prevalence rate of the disease has increased for 3 years since 2015. The report of Kusumawardani et al (2015) shows that 97 cases of cats were diagnosed with FPV. The vaccination program has not been implemented optimally by the cat-keeping community. The incidence of the disease is still common and cases can increase in certain seasons. Several cases handled at the Clinic of the Department of Internal Medicine, FKH-UGM ended in death. There has been no report on the implementation of vaccination in animal health care places. It is necessary to study the vaccination program for cats carried out by the cat-keeping community as an effort to prevent Feline Panleukopenia disease so that it can provide information about FPV vaccination as a basis for optimizing the implementation of FPV vaccination in cats. The study used ambulatory card data from cat examinations as clinical patients of the Department of Internal Medicine, FKH UGM in 2019.  Recap data collected in the form of ambulances for cat patients who requested vaccination. Patient data provided with vaccination services are grouped based on cat identity, age, sex, cat breed/race and maintenance system. The data obtained were tabulated and analyzed descriptively. Based on the results of the recap of ambulatory data for cat patients in 2019 who were vaccinated against feline panleukopenia, 236 individuals were obtained. The age of vaccinated cats at the age of <6 months were 128 animals (54%) and 108 cats (46%). there were 108 cats (46%) male cats and 128 (54%) female cats vaccinated against Feline panleukopenia. Types/breeds of cats, which were vaccinated against feline panleukopenia in purebred cats (Persi, Angora and others) as many as 128 (54%), 35 domestic cats (15%) and 73 mixed-breed cats (31%) ). Based on the study of this research data, it can be concluded that the feline panleukopenia virus vaccination program in male domestic cats is still low compared to purebred cats Keywords : Feline Panleukopenia Virus, cat, vaccination

Abstract

Trypanosoma evansi is a cause of the disease trypanosomiasis also known as surra. The trypomastigote stage can be found in the bloodstream and one of the clinical signs that appear during the course of the disease is anemia. The transmission of Trypanosoma evansi occurs non-cyclically through mechanical vector flies or oral transmission. This research aims to determine the relation between parasitemia levels and anemic conditions in domestic cats infected with Trypanosoma evansi. The objects used in this research are four domestic cats and divided into two groups based on the route of infection. The first group were infected with 108 Trypanosoma/µl (1 ml blood of an infected mice and PBS) through the subcutaneous route, and the second group was infected through the oral route by mixing carcass of infected mice and wet food. The examination of parasitemia levels in the blood samples of cats was observed daily using wet blood smear method and the hematological examination was collected within 10 days intervals during the experiment. The data of parasitemia levels and anemic condition in both groups were performed with descriptively and statistically analysis by using Independent T-test method. This research revealed that there was no significant effect (P>0.05) in anemia conditions between infection through subcutaneous and oral routes, and the level of parasitemia in the blood of domestic cats infected with Trypanosoma evansi affects the anemia condition, characterized by a decrease in the total value of erythrocyte, haemoglobin, and hematocrit.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to determine the potential impact of orchidectomy on alveolar bone density in male cats, using an exploratory research design and the CEJ-ABC distance measurement method. This study involved four different groups based on duration since orchidectomy, with maxillary radiographic images used to assess the degree of alveolar bone loss. The results, as determined by one-way ANOVA test, showed no statistically significant differences in CEJ-ABC distances between orchidectomy groups for the measured surfaces (mesial PM3, distal PM3, mesial PM4, and distal PM4), with all p -value exceeds 0.05. Consequently, the null hypothesis, indicating no substantial difference in alveolar bone density between orchidectomy groups, can be accepted. Keywords: alveolar bone loss, CEJ-ABC distance, orchidectomy

Abstract

Ketosis, mastitis, metritis, and LDA are diseases that often occur during the first two weeks of lactation and cause significant economic loss. The relationships between ketosis, mastitis, metritis, LDA, and several combinations of diseases and the first artificial insemination were discussed. This study aimed to describe the effect of diseases diagnosed during the postpartum period on the success of artificial insemination. This study was conducted using an observational cross-sectional approach. A total of 341 data samples were obtained, which consisted of 103 cattle without disease, 107 cattle diagnosed with ketosis, 51 cattle diagnosed with metritis, 5 cattle diagnosed with LDA, 20 cattle diagnosed with a combination of ketosis and mastitis, 20 cattle diagnosed with a combination of ketosis and metritis, and 6 cattle diagnosed with a combination of mastitis and metritis. Data analysis was carried out using bivariate analysis and tested using the chi-square test. The P values for ketosis, mastitis, metritis, LDA, ketosis-mastitis, ketosis-metritis, and mastitis-metritis were 0.756, 0.099, 0.972, 0.261, 0.276, 0.276, and 0.450, respectively. This study suggested that a history of disease during the postpartum period did not significantly affect cattle first artificial insemination.
