Abstract

Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAIs) remain a serious problem that requires immediate attention, due to low handwashing compliance. The World Health Organization (WHO, 2023) reports that hand hygiene compliance remains low, averaging only around 40% worldwide, and can be as low as 2% in low-income countries. In Indonesia, Ministry of Health data shows an incidence rate of 15.74%, while a survey of 10 teaching hospitals reported an average of 9.8%. Interventions in the form of hand hygiene education or training have proven effective in increasing knowledge and compliance among both patients and healthcare workers. In line with this, the community service activity was themed "Preventing Infectious Diseases and Infections with the Six-Step Handwashing Method." This activity was implemented as an educational effort to increase public and healthcare workers' awareness and skills in implementing proper hand hygiene practices in healthcare facilities. The activity began with coordination with the Cinere Community Health Center and was implemented through lectures and demonstrations of the WHO's six steps of handwashing using leaflets. A total of 30 participants took the pre-test and post-test to assess their knowledge improvement and satisfaction with the activity. PKM participants were predominantly aged 25–69 years and female, with the majority having elementary school education (66.7%). Knowledge before the activity was predominantly in the poor category (93.3%) and increased significantly after PKM to 83.3% in the good category (p-value = 0.000). The conclusion of this study is that the improvement of six-step hand hygiene behavior at the Cinere Community Health Center has successfully achieved the stated objective, namely increasing public knowledge about the importance of handwashing in preventing infectious diseases. The evaluation results showed a significant increase in participant knowledge from the poor to good category after education and demonstrations.

Abstract

The low level of financial management literacy among micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) remains a key barrier to effective and sustainable business operations. This community service program aims to enhance the understanding and skills of MSME actors in basic financial recording, cash flow management, SWOT analysis, and financial decision-making. The methods applied include socialization, technical training, practical simulations, technical assistance, and evaluation through pre-tests and post-tests. The results indicate a significant improvement in participants’ abilities to record daily transactions, prepare cash flow statements, calculate cost of goods sold, and assess their business position using SWOT analysis. Beyond knowledge enhancement, the program also generated positive behavioral changes and fostered the emergence of local leaders who initiated collaborative bookkeeping practices within the MSME community. This program proved effective in strengthening MSME financial capacity and promoting more accountable and sustainable business governance.

Abstract

This community service program aims to improve students’ character and learning discipline through the development of self-management skills among students of SMP Swasta Amanah 1 Medan, in order to better prepare them to face future challenges. The main objective of this program is to equip students with the ability to manage their time, emotions, and learning discipline in ways that align with current developments and the demands of the workforce. This activity was motivated by students’ low understanding of the importance of self-management, as well as their limited knowledge of good and proper character and learning discipline. The program was carried out through a series of counseling sessions, training, and mentoring activities involving collaboration between teachers and the PKM team. Self-management is an important factor that must be considered and managed well, as it enables students to organize tasks, manage study time, and maximize productivity. Efforts to provide guidance on self-management to improve character and learning discipline—aimed at enhancing students’ academic achievement—were implemented through this community service program for students at SMP Swasta Amanah 1 Medan. The PKM activities began with observation, group discussions with the principal and the vice principal for curriculum affairs, and counseling sessions. During the question-and-answer session, students appeared enthusiastic to ask questions, and their success in attempting to improve their learning efforts was a key indicator of the program’s achievement.

Abstract

School environment health and hygiene are crucial aspects for instilling healthy living habits from an early age. However, studies indicate that the level of understanding among primary school students regarding sanitation and Clean and Healthy Lifestyle (PHBS), especially handwashing practice, remains low. This research aims to describe the impact of implementing sanitation socialization based on practical activities for students at SDN 1 Nagri Kidul Purwakarta. The activities were conducted using a structured, demonstrative, and participatory educational approach, supported by the provision of portable handwashing facilities by UPI P3K students. This method placed the demonstration of correct handwashing steps as the central focus of the activity. The results show that the practical-based approach significantly improved students' understanding and skills, proving more effective than the lecture method. Students who initially only rinsed their hands are now able to correctly practice the steps of washing hands with soap, and they realize the importance of proper sanitation facilities. Thus, this socialization activity successfully cultivated the habit of correct handwashing, enhanced students' sanitation knowledge, and instilled an understanding of the necessity of adequate facilities. The sustainability of these positive habits requires facility support, ongoing guidance, and commitment from the school.

Abstract

Stunting is a condition of impaired growth in children caused by chronic malnutrition, particularly during the first 1,000 days of life. This issue has become a major global nutrition and health concern with long-term impacts on human resource quality. Therefore, promotive and preventive approaches are essential, one of which is community education. This community service activity aimed to improve knowledge and encourage behavioral changes in preventing and managing stunting through educational outreach and assistance in utilizing kelakai (Stenochlaena palustris) as an iron-rich functional food. The methods included interactive counseling using digital media such as visual presentations and educational banners, as well as direct community assistance in processing kelakai. Evaluation was conducted using pretest and posttest questionnaires to measure participants’ knowledge improvement. The results showed an 87.71% increase in knowledge, categorized as good. This program proved effective in enhancing community understanding of the importance of nutrition and the utilization of local food sources for stunting prevention. In conclusion, this community service initiative provides a positive contribution as a strategy to reduce stunting rates in Central Kalimantan, particularly in Gunung Mas, through improved knowledge, awareness, and the use of nutrient-dense local food resources.

Abstract

This community service initiative was carried out to implement a self-improvement strategy as an effort to strengthen the school culture at SMK Muhammadiyah 02 Tangerang in the era of Society 5.0. In this period of rapid technological advancement, schools are required not only to adapt to digital transformation but also to consistently cultivate character and humanistic values that form the foundation of education. Across many vocational schools, similar challenges tend to emerge, including low levels of student self-awareness, inconsistent discipline, unstable learning motivation, and the inadequate internalization of school values in daily learning activities and interpersonal interactions. These conditions influence students’ readiness to meet the demands of the workforce and navigate the social dynamics of the digital age.To address these issues, the program was designed through a series of activities, including training sessions, workshops, counseling, group discussions, education games, and direct mentoring. All components of the program aimed to foster students’ critical-thinking skills, effective communication, time and emotional management, as well as to enhance their motivation and commitment to continuous self-development. The outcomes indicate that students began to grasp the concept of self-improvement more deeply, demonstrated the ability to engage in self-reflection, identified their personal strengths and weaknesses, and formulated practical steps for more structured personal development. Furthermore, positive changes were observed in several aspects, including discipline, collaboration, participation in school activities, and students’ decision-making abilities.

Abstract

Patient safety in the preoperative phase is a critical aspect in preventing errors related to patient identity verification, surgical site, and procedural preparation. The community targeted in this program demonstrated limited understanding of the 3P principles (Right Patient, Right Site, Right Procedure). This community service activity employed a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design involving 10 participants who had never received education on preoperative safety. Education was delivered through a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) complemented with leaflets and presentation materials, along with a questionnaire assessing participants’ knowledge of the 3P principles. The results showed a substantial increase in knowledge scores, from an average of 5.6 during the pretest to 9.7 in the posttest, reflecting a 73.21% improvement. All participants experienced an increase in understanding related to preoperative patient safety. This program demonstrates that FGD-based education is effective and has the potential to be integrated as a standard component of community health education to strengthen patient safety culture.

Abstract

This study discusses the implementation of the second principle of Pancasila, “Just and Civilized Humanity,” in the daily activities of 4th- and 5th-grade students at SDN Cinunuk 3. Using a qualitative method through case studies and direct observation, this research explores students’ understanding and practice of humanitarian values, fairness, and civility in their interactions with peers, teachers, and the school environment. The findings show that although students have received instruction on Pancasila, there remains a gap between their conceptual understanding and its application in daily behavior. These results suggest the need to strengthen character education and implement more effective Pancasila learning methods at the elementary school level.

Abstract

A woman’s nutritional status must be prepared before and during pregnancy because it is an indirect factor that contributes to fetal growth and development. The prevention of stunting is focused on the first 1,000 days of life (from conception to a child’s second birthday), as this period is crucial in determining a child’s quality of life (Ministry of Health, 2018). Efforts that can be undertaken include improving nutritional status during adolescence, the preconception period, pregnancy, and early childhood. This also requires increasing government awareness and community participation through routine growth monitoring at Posyandu, improving healthy sanitation behavior and access to clean water, and ensuring the availability of nutritious and affordable food products (Sakti, 2020). Based on data obtained from the village midwife in Ujanmas Baru Village, most pregnant women do not know how to manage dietary patterns, parenting practices, and sanitation, even though these three factors are key efforts in preventing stunting in infants to be born. The target of this community service activity is pregnant women in Ujanmas Baru Village. The methods used include counseling and demonstrations on dietary patterns (Isi Piringku), parenting practices, and sanitation for pregnant women. These activities aim to increase the knowledge and skills of pregnant women regarding proper diet (Isi Piringku), parenting, and sanitation during pregnancy in order to prevent stunting early, starting from pregnancy. The expected outcomes are increased knowledge and skills of pregnant women in implementing appropriate dietary patterns (Isi Piringku), good parenting practices, and proper sanitation during pregnancy, as well as publication in a national journal.
